Tom had such a great ear for rhythm. He could find a way to make a very simple riff, sound unbelievably complex in post. What you are seeing vs. what you are hearing, makes your head spin.
If a musician does not have an internal metronome (especially after decades of playing) they need to throw their instruments in the dumpster, along with themselves. If you can't keep the tempo, you aren't fit to play.
@@Twitch_Moderator If a musician does not know the difference between rhythm and tempo then they are not fit to play. See how stupid your opinion is now ?

MAN those drums sound phenomenal. i'm serious, the drums on that _Blink-182_ record are some of the best i've ever heard - _Fallen Interlude_ has probably my favorite drum sound of all time. dry, fat, CLEAN. so fucking incredible. whoever did the engineering on that stuff deserves a raise. they deserve a raise 17 years(!!!!?) after the album came out. wow. 17 years. THAT is fucking mind-blowing. that's a whole teen-aged life, right there. someone who was born the Fall that _Feeling This_ was a big hit would be almost *17 years old.*
Painting with Sound op is talking about the sound design not the drumming itself. Why does everything turn into a dick measuring contest with drummers. As a musician (mostly a drummer) I’m sick of it.
I remember going to Best Buy when I was a kid because my dad was looking for a specific album. He looked for like 15-20 minutes and finally found it. As soon he got in the car he opened it up and put that CD right in. I remember hearing feeling this and I was like WTF is this? And got hooked to that sound then finally realized who Blink was

One special musical creature found another special musical creature then they were both abducted by another special musical creature and beamed back to earth. Love you guys!
I do actually. Tom is playing octaves on the A and G strings which are all in the key of E, but a harmonic is different from a harmony. A harmonic is an overtone when amplifying a note which is different from the note's actual frequency. Harmony is creating a chord with different pitches in the scale, in this case E.
@BrianxDempsey yeah it almost made sense. but he meant to say octaves, and the guy he was talking to was referring to the open e string he hits at the end of the first riff
i know exactly what it means. tom is playing octaves on the a and g string. he's playing in harmony in the key of E. he is not playing e's themselves unless he plays the bassnote, which he doesn't. a harmonic is when the vibration of the overtones in the chord are made louder.
I've spent a ton of time in the studio and it can be fun or boring and annoying. But the truth is, the mahority of the "AWESOME" music you heard on MTV or hear on the radio is the magic and input of the sound editor/tech. Most mass-produced sounding bands don't have a plethora of talent. It's just track overlay with more track overlays until the song sounds busy and perfect.
Today I saw this absolutely stunning color that I've never seen before! It was indescribable, but when I blinked, it disappeared. I guess it was just a pigment of my imagination.

That white plexi is the holy grail of guitar tone. Jerry Finn used it on AFI's Sing The Sorrow and blink's Selftitled.

The start of AVA.
