  • Today we're having a look at the tram line trick by feeding diferent networks into the same node and then adjusting them with Node Controller. This allows you to setup nice tram networks parallel to your roads, nice trick! Enjoy.

Funny that you showed the trick with Ilos, especially since it's actually somewhat realistic (because it happens in Phoenix when Central Avenue splits into two roads).

The only thing I can think of to make this better is the mod: Building Spawn Points
so you can change the cars spawn points on the buildings so cars don't have to drive over the tram rail like in 9:40
I'm going to try this in my city! I was looking for a 6 lane dedicated tram road with parking and bike lanes but couldn't find one, but with this trick it solves my issue! thanks a lot!

great demo - i've had problems with the short segments in the past. This is a great solution. Lately I've been using the tram networks from Clus. His "narrow concrete" network allows elevated tram stops. Using a pedestrian road, like the Next2 inspired network, you can build a walkway to the tram stop. It's fun watching CIMS use these city services - like a zombie hoard they pack the spiral ramps as they make their ways to and from the stop. Setting the speed limit to unlimited and voila - instant light rail without having to burn space with train stations.

Horizontal layering? Road - tram track - line of shops. Whatever it's called, it's such a great way to showoff the trams.

Brilliant. Seems like there would be a way to upgrade the train track after (that you straighten it after connecting both halves to the node). Its certainly a neat fix than having too many intersections in one area

Wow, thank you so much for explaining this in detail, I would have never figured this out by myself, that NC is so overwhelming to me.

Wonderful ! In one of my recent built, I try to make a similar thing, because I wanted to have less traffic but more PT like tram in my city. But tram doesn't always help with traffic, because they take one lane of the road. So like in the video, I put the lane track offroad, and make the stop accessible by pathway, and cross some arterial or collector. But your result here is so much better than I :) I think, I will try to replicate this on my next line :)

It never occured to me to try this, great idea! Its worth noting that if you do too large corner offsets tho, that pedestrian pathfinding may get broken, leaving cims stuck on the sidewalks, entering the node. Starts to become an issue when offset gets larger than 30-35. Cars arent affected tho so highways can safely have offsets much higher than that. Thanks for the video!

We also did this the opposite way round too using a trainline and NC'ing the road back out, it works nice!

About trying to use this trick for trains: wouldn't it work if you used the train tracks like your road and then the road like the tram track? Dunno if I'm making myself clear, but would the rails still break their connection?

you can make the train tracks go straight then connect the roads on and angle to the node on the train track then instead of shifting the train track with node controller shift the road.

I would love to follow this kind of tram network but the blue yellow vehicle on 9:30 breaks the immersion of it and goes directly towards the house. Is there a way to remove it?

    • @OVERCHARGEDEGG

Rolling the building spawn point forward will help 😌

    • @lanserschrek2364

Well, if you use Advanced Parking AI any Cim in a car attempts to find a parking space and park it before entering their destination and also has to leave their house, find their parked car, and hop in the drivers seat to drive it. So you'll occasionally see parking cars floating across to a parking spot. If you leave the game at Vanilla parking AI, cims won't bother with parking and will magically pull cars out of their pocket and magically put them back into their pocket. Which is more immersion breaking ... rhetorical question. :-)

Shame this only works with trams. I don't have snowfall because trams are literally the only reason to buy it. I was hoping I could do this with streetcars. At least there's still monorail, I guess?
