9:05 I just now learn that you can kill those turtles with Super Missiles, thanks TheReverseSlinky. I mean I got the tower climb the failed hero shot way in about 10 minutes (doing it slower is really not that difficult once you got walljumps down) but that would've made it way easier. You never stop learning with Super Metroid.
I really have been liking these videos. Very interesting, it makes me appreciate runners even more knowing the depth of tech they know and execute without me realizing. I never intend to speed run this game, but im here for it
Thanks man, after like 1 hour I could made it!!! For those who could not do it yet, just record yourself and compare the first jump wall jump speed and shot location with Oats one.
@@derpingflamingo My son has taught me that in the Speed Running world this is called the "Full-Halfy." He has become a decent SM speedrunner. I would need lots more practice to pull this off.
Played through the game for the first time today and I felt like there wasn't much to do except trying to jump up the red tower.. without hi-jump.. because I figured "game be hard". I also figured my shots didn't seem to affect things outside the screen, so I never tried charge-shooting up, so I tried wall jumping over and over until I could shoot the ceiling, fall down and quickly tried to jump through it before the cieling came back... most frustrating part was her looking up and stopping her spin, over and over.. this took sooo long! I wasn't very happy about finding the hi-jump somewhere else a short while after.. hah.
You mind doing a tutorial in getting over that missle tank that your supposed to need the grapple beam for, right before the wrecked ship. I know how to do it with the speed booster but not without.
I could never do that final bit with turtles and the hero shot. =/ Also how you do the fast wall jumping in one spot ? I can do basic wall jumping but if I try that I just fall. Also have you seen OvertheGun´s (OTG) old playthrough of Super Metroid from 2008 he went the wrecked ship backwards from Maridia without even noticing it. Accidental game breaking. =) Probably the most legendary Super metroid video.
Doesn't Zeni have a strat that doesn't need the hero shot, or is that someone else? I just shoot the block right after my last jump. Love the hair, though!
that's in a different route. If you do early croc and late ice (which is the slower but easier route,) or Any% old route (Kraid, Phantoon, Draygon, Ridley) you can do a strat with a ledge angle shot and tight ledge grab
@@Oatsngoats I'm running on a SNESCE, so I've only got four save states. I've got a PRDK run, and I can hit the left ledge without a high jump, ice, or grapple. It's inconsistent as all hell, but it can be done.
don't think I'm ever gonna early early tower . . . mostly 'cause that's not the way I run the game but the basic movement of early tower helps also. . . early?
One of the top 4 speedrunners in the world: "You can go faster? I didn't know that!"
Me: "sorry, I blinked"

I’m happy you did tutorials after I figured them out the guess work way 🙁 love the content oats keep it up champ
To be fair, oats and sweet did a tutorial years ago that covers all the basic tricks and mechanics.
@@HeabSaysNo and now I need to apologize to the corngod cause I’ve seen that video I forgot about it 😭😭😭
the consistent S-tier editing is hilarious 6:31
I haven't played SM in like 15 years but these are still fun to watch
I call that last walljump in red tower the zak galifinaticus because it's between two ferns.

these tutorials
I've gotten to phantoon at around an hour
I'm now at phantoon at around 23 minutes
5:15 two quick ones WHAT A RUSH!!
Came here to say this, disappointed at the like count
I ALREADY KNOW I'M GETTING THERE ON THE PERFECT LINE
This early climb advice is helpful, ive mostly resigned myself to trying once then just killing the rippers if I mess up. Thanks for the tutorial!

Love the tuts! The strats are awesome. Need one on wall jumping fast up after shine sparking in Maridia to skip grappling room to get to Draygon.
so have you ever figured out how to wall jump fast up after shine sparking in maridia to skip grappling room to get to draygon?

Love these tutorials how about phantoon pattern tutorial and ridley battle tutorial?
Your walljumping game is insane.
This is why you are number 1 super metroider
It's like a driving lesson, haha
1:49 maybe you don't make the jump because you scrape the wall mid-jump and that somehow lowers your velocity?
If you do Early Croc, you need to do it with High Jump though. :(
So I'm doing the KPDR route, I keep hitting the fourth ripper, what am I doing wrong
I'm playing using my phone emulator without gamepad lol i can do the wall jump but not consistent
I would rather use super missiles, but then how do I get to Phantoon?!

Hello delicious!!
🎂
I wall jumped to the last one and whenever I was wall jumping the brick came up and pushed me down. Just want to give up 😭
Also learned you can super missile the beetles and makes it so much easier. Was stuck for hours!
Ledge Grab?
