BIGGEST Tarpon Ever Caught!!

- Most fishermen dream of catching a world record-sized fish, especially a world record tarpon! In this episode of BlacktipH, we travel to Bahia Solano, Colombia, to fish the sardine migration along the coast of the Baudó Mountains. Shortly after Josh released his first-ever roosterfish, he hooks the biggest tarpon that we had ever seen! This fish was massive! Josh, Alberto Meija, and Dr. Robert Borrego battled this behemoth for nearly two hours before the fish gave up. After quickly taking a photo of the monster fish, we released it back into the ocean. At first, we thought this fish weighed around 250lbs, but after looking at pictures of other record-sized tarpon on Google, we started to believe that our fish was a world record! I called Billy Delph from Delph Fishing and Raymond Douglas from King Sailfish Mounts to validate our catch. Both men agreed that this fish must have weighed over 300lbs and thus breaking the world record! The estimated weight using the Bonefish Tarpon Trust Tarpon Weight Calculator was 312lbs.

If the word EPIC was ever applicable, its for this fish and video! Incredible work Josh and Crew!
I’d be scared having any tarpon over 100 pounds on 60# leader, they all handled that whole situation well
So true
I fish in florida off of a pier and the other day there was 100 pound tarpon crossing under and i thought to myself that only a madman could hook and land one of those, and that madman, my friend is josh Jorgensen of BlacktipH fishing
@@Nighthawk435 people fish for tarpon off the pier all the time including myself
@@ourluckfishing2801 cool! Ive never tried for one myself because I figured they were too big but again ive never had big enough gear to get one up. Have you ever caught one? If so where and how big?
I “GUARANTEE” that was the world record. You’re insane for letting him go. But at the same time I respect the hell out of you for it. People like you make us fisherman look good when it comes to conservation of these beasts. Congrats Josh and get better brotha so you can keep pushing out these video. You keep me and my guys entertained while we’re deployed over here in Syria
There's really no reason to keep a big fish trophy. You can measure it and give the measurements to a taxidermist that can recreate it. Big fish breed and make other big fish
You can’t take a fish that size out of the water, release it, and expect it to live. That fish had a greater chance of dying rather than living.

@@jilliantisdale4855 Alright Jillian....how would you have handled the fish? What do you think they did wrong here?
@@jilliantisdale4855 numero uno.) the tarpon is probably still living
Dos.) it is a world record because it is the largest tarpon ever caught on hook and line. Doesn’t matter who reels it in
Tres.) as you can probably tell, he was going after multiple species like rooster fish and other medium sized fish
Cuatro.) he wasn’t promoting the fish being handled like that. He had to get a measure on the fish that was safe for them and the fish. The fish could’ve been sharked or josh could’ve been injured or killed by how strong the tarpon is
@@jilliantisdale4855 they were not going after big tarpon due to the fact that they were using 60 pound leader. They would’ve liked to have used something stronger due to the fact that it was severely frayed when they got it to the boat. They handled the fish as safe as they could. The fish could’ve been attacked by a shark or the fish could’ve trashed and jumped at the boat and injured or possibly killed the people on board. In your argument you keep on saying it isn’t a world record when there is enough evidence through weight calculators to prove you wrong.
Absolute madness !! So awesome when y’all yelled TARPON!!!!
I have mad respect for Josh! The fact that he was able to take in that moment and to realize that he may possibly have the world record for tarpon, yet release the fish unharmed into the wild really shows how he cares about the animals! Keep fishing guys.
Dude he 1000% killed that fish

@@Zach845 Yeah pretty much in agreement. tarpon just don't get god outcomes from catch and release.
@@Zach845 facts.
I feel bad for Josh that he couldn't enjoy it entirely because of his back pain. Incredible catch my guy
i can relate so much to that, it's the little moments in life that can be robbed from you when you have a back injury, and herniated discs typically don't heal up, you just learn to deal with the pain after a while. Maybe he can invest in back supports or equipment that makes it easy to reel in big fish. Either way, i wish him good luck in his recovery
I’m dealing with two herniations myself. I definitely get his pain when it comes to fishing. It hurts but I’ll never give up my fishing
It allowed him to share the catch with the other two guys so now 3 people can say they caught it. Also maybe the fish would have come off. It was hooked horribly and maybe if it tired one man out too much the fish would've gotten the better of him and escaped
I very
I don't

Wow Josh going into another location and having no respect for the fishery or the world record fish great job BlacktipH, you did it again!
It was an invasive species in the part of Colombia where he was fishing
Technically he could have killed it because its considered a invasive species in that area. These are Atlantic tarpon that swam thru the Panama canal and now they have established themselves in this area of the Pacific. At least he did not kill it. A lot of people in the states would have killed that tarpon if they thought it was a world record.

Dude well deserved recognition for the release of that fish, there is no better record than that!!!
Awesome content. I enjoy a lot! Keep it up!
I love blacktip. Don’t get me wrong. But he killed the fish. He subbed out because of his back making it not eligible for the record. I’m not going to assume he knew this but in the end he talked about how long he fought the fish for then released it with no revival. A fish of that size would 100 percent die with no revive
Speak clearly. Lol Tarpon are one of the toughest fish in the world. You don't know what you're talking about. You're full of it. You're wrong.
@@name_less7687 No, no he’s not there is a reason that in America u can’t take a tarpon over 40 inches out of the water they crush themselves all there guts everything, there is also a reason people revive fish after a fight like that they are so exhausted they can barley swim even small tarpon that fish is dead.
Yup no one can touch the rod so no record. Nice catch though. Pretty sure that fish would live no barra trauma there

I feel your pain Josh. I got into an accident now I’m left with herniations at my L3 and L5. It’s really killed my fishing but I still push thru it. Wish you well bro, great fish!
Awesome fish, but wish it was left in the water. I get the desire to take it out and hold it, but as I'm sure you know a tarpon that big isn't made to support its own weight out of the water
The guy kept a Warsaw Grouper that was like 400 lbs. What are you gonna do with that much fish? Donate it to a food shelter? Why would he care about killing a tarpon. Just another fish he caught on a guided trip.
@@bhaubert different case IMO. He went out with the express intent of catching and eating the warsaw, not so with the tarpon. The warsaw also was pretty much dead at boatside, unlike the tarpon. That is indeed a shitload of meat, but with plenty of friends and good flash freezing you can make the most of it without wasting any. Still don't think it's something I'd do, but I can understand it better.
With the tarpon, if you've got the intent to release it from the get-go, I think it's way less justifiable to bring it in the boat.
