One of the best and most useful reviews I've seen. I just ordered mine, so I was looking to get a head start. This video gives a nice practical overview. Thanks!

I personally know owner of the Edelkrone company. And he is unique combination of mechanical engineering an film making talent. He is an engineering graduated and also film maker. Not surprised he's created this much good devices for the sector.
You know, I say the same damm thing. Every time That tightening boat needs to be improved. That system has failed on me several times as I thought I was going to loose my Sonya7r3. It hasn’t hit the floor yet but damm it give me pretty good scare when it swings down. Edelkrone needs a better locking system to hold that camera up
2:18 looks a little shakey there.. not really noticeable until you used a macro/telephoto lens for smooth pans.. still love edelkrone’s products though
Yyyyyeah. As a solo shooter often filming myself, I guess it’d just be helpful to have another pair of “hands.” But that shake is ridiculous. Clearly it can’t support the weight of the head. I see noticeable jerks on even smoother shots
Joey! Was wondering what happened to you! Thanks for a share. It surprises me that this type of 'micro system' is just being introduced. Good to see tech is finally matching my creative thinking.
I'd love to know if the moves are accurate enough to do multiple passes for VFX. That's basically impossible to find in this price range, and even some of the pan/tilt only options just don't cut it. And along those same lines, can it start/stop video (or use video start as a cue to begin movement) to help sync up shots? Looks like a rather good deal either way, considering how many different ways you could use it.
Electronically, sure, but mechanically this thing is as sloppy as heck. You can see it clearly in this sample footage. Look at the jib shots up over the figures. Very shaky. No way you're gonna get pixel perfect moves with that. Plus, for real VFX you want to genlock your camera to the moco, otherwise there's no guarantee the camera will be in EXACTLY the same position at the same time in each pass, it could be a fraction of a frame out of sync. Depends how pedantic you are. I am very pedantic. Best way to check the accuracy of any system like this is to layer the various passes over each other in difference mode in your edit/comp software. Inconstancies between the takes will be the only things that aren't black.
@@robertdouble559 Thanks for the response. I don't even remember posting my comment, but I did want to note that I've been able to get decent results using a Ronin RS3 for pan and tilt! It probably wouldn't be up to your standards, but it's not half bad for a 48h film or small commercial effect.
@@AurelTristen Good to hear! I've been thinking about getting an RS3 Pro for jobs where I cant afford a full grip crew. I use d to do a bit of low rent moco with an emotimo rig way back, was fine for smal camera, BArely held my old Red Epic, had to watch out on exreme tilt angles or the little plastic gears would grind pretty bad! I also had the full iFootage shark slider and it's pan/tilt head, it was pretty dang solid actually. Nothing like a Bolt or similar top end setups, but still fun to play with for lower budget jobs.
Thanks for the detailed review. Wondering whether to use this for small jewellery videos or whether it'll be too fiddly and slow. How long do you think it'd take to setup and program a move where the jib rises and the head tilts down?
Maybe the wobble is due to the fact that it hasn't been correctly balanced. You shouldn't need to lock the jib for it to stay put. The weight should be even on each side like 2 kids who weigh the same either side of a see-saw. You should only need a pink finger level of strength to move the jib, it should stay at rest in whatever position you leave it in. Yes, lock it off when youre gonna walk away for safety, but other than that it should stay put. Maybe correctly set up this thing would be smoother.
When I use my jib, anytime the headplus is moving in post it creates a high pitch noise. Have you experienced this and if so what have you done to fix this noise. It's noticeable on post edits
Nice to see. It's unfortunate how difficult it seems to be to do some smart software that matches frame rates so we also can get smooth pan shots on youtube and other media players.
@@michalwalks Need to be done in the video frame rate as I understand it? So one solution is for video providers on youtube to actually think about what frame rate used on youtube (instead of filming in 24 as often is?), or for the software developers do come up with a solution for conversion tool or such. There would probably be issues with just converting a frame rate to another but with machine learning that should/might soon be an old issue if so. Also adding to the problem is what media (screen) you watch the video on so it's probably not as easy as one would want it to be?
have you ever experienced jitter or extreme shaking with your jibone? I purchased the jibone + Head Pro + Pan Pro - spent $2700 and the device is jittery. the footage is unusable and I need to get in contact with them because at this point I just have a $2700 hunk of metal that angers me everytime I look at it.
Man those things satisfies my tech&gear addiction so much - but I fear it's just a new rabbit hole to fall in :D but a very cool tool and solid review!
The knurled neck thing could be replaced with a notched rail design, kinda like some old bicycle seat posts used to work back in the day where there was a lever arm, and closing would be done only on those notches. As for the key pose portion on the app, they should have that whole center screen for one key pose, with large buttons, and when you need the next one, you just swipe left or right. Otherwise all fingers are sausage fingers trying to get to those little buttons.
Love that you could get this for - in worst case scenario - 3000 dollars - when one of those manual follow focus rigs can host half of that - and only consist of a of rods and mounting brackets... I think the camera world needs more stuff like this. Can't and will never afford (or need) something like this - but it's a start. This probably cost less than a Red power brick. :P
I'm not convinced with that rig, it seems a bit wiggling, I can't imagine how you can get a repeatable sequence using that rig, also I'm afraid that some movement will be introduced in time-lapses, indoors undisturbed, may be fine.
Cool! Can you also use a preconfigured path as position/velocity/acceleration input , e.g. to get the camera motion to match with a path from a 3D program (for combining real shots with CGI)? In case not (yet): That's a feature that should be relatively easy to add and that would make a couple of people extra happy, I guess.
I would also feel much better if the clamp discussed at 5:30 ish had some sort of redundant mechanism like a cotter pin. Though that might be something a user could engineer as well.
While it can be useful when looking at a product, I find these types of things are often overused. Still... the results look good though, but don't overdo it and make us nauseous ;)
That looks awesome, but what is the point? I can do literally same shots with osmo mobile, not mentioning ronin which is ultimate choice if u have money to invest in ur work

Love these videos! You and Gunther's insight into this is really interesting
I could've sworn that's 27 centimeters, not 27 inches 😅
Recently, I bought a Edelkrone Slider and it's really useful, I'm very happy with it! It's fun! :)
is it me or does the footage look shaky at times? Like someone tapped the setup

My goodness! That work is amazing. Great review too.

Yes it can repeat moves precisely enough for that. And if you add their new Pan Pro, you get another axis on the jib.

What kind of Tripod are you using? Can you provide the link?
Great review, Joey - thanks!

Great review. What’s the Jibone like with wind. Is there much movement / play that could cause camera movement ?
Thanks Joey, I've been developing and testing a similar system. It's really awesome having the camera movement automated.

Not into photography at all but found the content and presentation great.
Great review. Thank you
That is soooo cool!!
I'm currently torn between this and dji rs3. What are your thoughts on that?
More Joey videos!!!!

Totally agree with your sentiment. Adding that into the app would make it next-gen.

Can somebody tell me the model of the 'mini' tripod used in the video?
Thank you.
I really need to know this too!
looks like a Manfrotto 529 Hi Hat with 100mm Bowl
very nice, @adam what kind of tripod is that? thank you!
looks like a Manfrotto 529 Hi Hat with 100mm Bowl
Edelkrone are the best at sliders no doubt. Wish I could afford some of their stuff! 😊
Anyone know what that tripod is in the video that comes down to such low height?
I'm loving this. Will this setup support a Panasonic AG-CX350? (About 5.07 lb with battery)
If I was filming by myself for hours, would I be able to automate the movement for hours?
Awesome! 🤘
What is the brand of the tripod you are using?

Can you get a wired live feed out of the camera while it is mounted to the jib?
What model is that Tripod?
Perfectly Balanced, as all things should be.
I'm not convinced with that rig, it seems a bit wiggling, I can't imagine how you can get a repeatable sequence using that rig, also I'm afraid that some movement will be introduced in time-lapses, indoors undisturbed, may be fine.
How accurate is the repeatability? If you wanted to do multiple passes for miniature work, would this be suitable?
I see jitters in every shot, so I guess accurate motion control is out of the question.
Cameltoe at 2:13, cant believe they made that into the figure

I enjoyed this video a lot & shared it with a friend. Reward what you want to be repeated.
Great video! should have uploaded it in 60p so you can really show the smoothness of the rig ;)

Indeed.... I was wondering about that also, shoukd be possible right?
If you can't build a latch for it yourself, you know a lot of people on Tested who can :^) I'm sure Adam would love to turn something cool.

A lot of play in that system. Wobble city.

It's been 3 years and I hope you have discovered styluses and Android tablets by now.

i've never had luck with these. Shakes a little every single time
Wow😍
Wayyyyyyy too expensive for what it does. Around 3.5 K€ just for that limited range of motion ? Edelkrone must think they are Apple, now.
Türkiye menşei bir ürün insan gurur duyuyor..
Thanks for this video. Next time, record and upload 60FPS videos. This would be beneficial for so many reasons.
Vay be görünce sevindim. Çok güzel
Whether you care about photography or not (I do), that shot of it moving at 15:09 is pure geek p0rn.

Funny, i get add of similar thing (some sort of heavy handycam) during watching this video
I wish I can make that
I want one for fun but I have no need for it
One's fun sometimes becomes a need!
Interesting. But far from rock steady, like every Edelkrone product I've seen.

i can't use this since the latest update
wtf
like, the app freezes and then goes back to home screen after 10 sec

Tablets are a thing, but I agree that desktop apps should always be available for things like this
for people like you who prefer buttons, they launched a remote. So now it's like holding a TV remote to create and start your shot.
