  • Tesla Vision Park Assist is a new feature introduced in version update 2023.6.9. Now I was pretty excited to test this out on my 2023 RWD Model 3. Why? Well keep in mind, Tesla decided to remove the Ultrasonic Sensors (USS) from all Model 3s and Ys in October 2022, which provide the functionality for Park Assist. At that time, Tesla announced that Tesla Vision would eventually replace the functionality in the Ultrasonic Sensors. I've been waiting for this since November 2022 when I took delivery of my Model 3.
So how ready for prime time is this? Does Tesla Vision Park Assist beat or at least meet the functionality in the Ultrasonic Sensors? Short answer is no, but that was to be expected since this was the initial update. But how accurate is it? We'll put it to the test in this video, and see how well it performs in a few real world tests.

I think that you read the "Backing-in" test incorrectly. The car showed 13 in, then stop. After that, the car was moved closer. I believe the 10-12 inch measurement was pretty close. The ~30 inch measurement was to something towards the front of the car. This was about the 6:20 point of the video.

I went back and took a look and you may be right. It did initially show that 13 inches, backed up a bit more after that which actually measured the 6 - 7 inches. So it may have been pretty close to that 13 inch reading when I first stopped. The car is actually showing 2 readings, one for the front and rear.
      Thanks for calling this out.

This was very helpful, thank you!

When it said 30 inches is was not measuring the distance behind but rather another angle. It had already told you 12 inches which was still inaccurate but yeah.

Yea, I caught that after someone else called that same thing out. I think it would have been pretty close if I had measured when it told me to stop at the 12 inches. It's not perfect, but like I said, it's better than what I had.

It was showing 30 from the front not back

Either way it's horrendously wrong 🤣🤣🤣

Actually it wasn't. It did better than what I was showing here. Take a look at the first comment.

@@mywifestesla My one has been terrible and I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong. If you look at R Symons comprehensive test, you'll see how bad it is with blind spots. It ticks Tesla's box for doing something but It's not something you can rely on. It's hugely dissapointing that we have paid extra for features we can't even use 😒

I agree with you. My limited testing with pulling / backing into spots hasn't been that bad. I've found myself using it more and more, but with that said I'm still relying on my eyes as the first judge of things. You're right, it does something more than what we had, but it's not completely there yet. Don't even get me started on the whole Enhanced Auto Pilot purchase, that's a major disappointment.

I don't get topdown-view when parking with front against a car/wall. I don't get sound-warnings either. Yes, i toggled them on in setting.
    Also says "park assist degraded"...
    Anyone know?

I've received the "park assist degraded" on a few occasions, best I can tell it's related to the rear camera being dirty or rain.

So the answer is: not accurate. Better than nothing, you say? But 6 or 30 inches, that's a huge difference when it really matters! After all the tests and comments I have seen on UA-cam, I wouldn't be too optimistic anymore, if I were you, about improvements. Tesla engineers have already done their best over the past 7 months. I can imagine you don't rely on Tesla Vision. You paid a lot for what won't work.

I still think it's better than nothing, at least given what I use it for. There were some discrepancies in the video, so I did a retest and the results were pretty close (not exact, but close). I'm not saying my results apply to every single use-case you would use it for, but for my test it wasn't too bad. I'll get that posted in the next few days.

I don’t know who taught this guy to measure but what I seen was he put the ruler where he would not get a good measurement but he did try to say what what he wanted it to be in inches. I bet if he cuts wood he says cut it twice and it is still short

It's actually "what I saw", but I won't rag on you for that.
