Two divas that respected each others talent. After their first meeting, Freddie wanted to record a song with her, and she said let’s do an album. The love they showed for one another is so evident.
As soon as Freddie sings The moment that you stepped into the room it took my breath away… I almost feel like tearing up. Freddie admired Montsy so much and his dream was to write a song for her … not sure in his fantasies he ever dreamed he’d sing with her and make an entire together 🥰 Their friendship makes me so happy because it made Freddie soooo happy ♥️ And they loved each other in a wonderful friendship 🌷🌹🌷
Not quite. Freddie only accepted two voices Montserrat Caballé and Liza Minelli. He wrote the song for her. It should also be noted that Montserrat Caballè was the last opera diva - "Primadonna Assoluta"!
Freddie went to an opera performance to see Pavarotti but when he heard Monserrat Caballe who had a small part as the soprano singer, his jaw hit the floor. He mentioned to a reporter how much he admired her way of holding soft vibrato notes for so long ( something she was famous for in the opera community). Her agent heard and contacted his. He asked to meet her. He was so nervous he told his friend he was afraid she wouldn’t show. But she did and they hit it off. The next meeting was at Freddie’s house where they ended up staying up all night working on music. She asked how many songs where in a rock album. He told her 9 or 10. “Let’s do that!” So Freddie with help wrote an entire album, the very first that combines rock and opera. They had a beautiful friendship and he even confided his illness to her. She said it didn’t bother her if he didn’t mind her age and weight. “We are musicians darling he told her, so let’s sing!” That is their story according to her interview about him and Freddie’s agent /friend Jim Beach.
This is such a classy performance. Freddie knew his fate by this time and he had always loved the opera. This was his chance to actually perform beside the number one operatic soprano in the world and he was both thrilled and terrified.
Before Freddie fell in love with Montserrat's voice, he mainly listened to male opera singers, Luciano Pavarotti was his favourite. Freddie was impressed the workload what an opera singer has to put into the training the voice, he loved the theatrical world and he often went to ballett and musical performances. The collaboration with Montserrat meant him everything, his dream came true. The song Barcelona was the first crossover between a rock singer and an opera diva.
Freddie loved opera and mentioned in an interview that he thought she was the best singer he had heard. She got wind of this and asked him to do a song together. One song turned into an entire album. Check out Exercises in Free Love which is the demo of Freddie singing her part in what eventually became Ensueno on the album. Also How Can I Go On and Guide Me Home from the Barcelona álbum. He wrote Barcelona as a tribute to her hometown, and it was used years later for the ‘92 Olympics. Sadly, he had already passed away by then. They adored each other and became great friends. She was at his funeral and the unveiling of his statue in Switzerland.
Fue freddy quien buscó a Montserrat para hacer el album. That’s very true, she said in an interview once that he had a realisation on stage that he probably wouldn’t be alive when Barcelona hosted, he was so overcome that he took her hand and kissed it to hide his tears 😢
Freddie said in an intervju in Spain responding to the question what was the best about Spain he said Montserrat Caballe. Then I believe she contacted him and it resulted in an album. Barcelona They became close friends
There's a lovely interview with Monseratte that describes their first meeting that you could check out, it's very sweet to hear her speaking about their very special friendship.
The second song on the album, La Japonaise, is also a masterpiece. Freddie wrote the lyrics, including the lyrics in Japanese. Freddie loved Japan: it’s ppl and culture. This song seems to be an ode to Japan.
You MUST react to their live performance of "Golden Boy". Yes you reacted to the vocal only of that magnificent performance. Not absorbing their interacting was criminal. React to 'Golden Boy' live! I wanna watch your face.
Had you discovered yet that he also took place in a ballet ? There isn’t much that Freddie couldn’t/didn’t do, or WANT to do. He loved his ‘Monty’s’ and he adored all things Japanese. Oh, and his cats, of course.
Will you Please React to MJ & Freddie "There must be more to life than this " , a Collab they did...Not well known, don't know why but it's a hidden Gem, thanks either way
FYI - Freddie performed BARCELONA with Montsy against Dr’s orders, as his white blood cell numbers were lethally low. He needed an emergency blood transfusion soon after the performance. Montsy was one of the few people that he told about his health. BARCELONA was supposed to be performed at the 1992 Olympics but Freddie died months before the opening ceremony! 😢😢
Thanks for reacting to this. I'm a new subscriber, by the way, since I saw you were reacting to Queen and Freddie Mercury. Freddie and Montserrat Caballe became such good friends. They really enjoyed each other. He was one of the first people he told about his illness. She was there with Brian May and Freddie's parents when they unveiled his statue in Montreaux. I read today that she sang at his funeral. It's sad to think of all the wonderful music Freddie still had in him when he died.
Such an amazing accomplishment for them both, but especially Freddie. He always lives opera & he was able to fulfill that dream. This song was his love letter to “Montsy” about the first time they met.

This song was the opening of the Barcelona Olympics. Freddie told her that he probably would not be here by then. Quite beautiful…

My favorite of the two is "How Can I Go On"
It makes me cry because it seems to be a foreshadowing of the next 5 yrs of his life 💔😢

I know not as many people will request these but Queen’s It’s Late and their Prophets Song are great! Both written by Brian May.

Love ur reaction.plz watch the film Bohemian Rapsody actors look when they did it
Freddie, IMO, was the greatest performer/singer in rock history. He was merely adequate as an opera singer, perhaps suited best for the chorus.
Escucha GOLDEN BOY
