Wow, this is fantastic...you are so creative! Your additions made from the styrofoam and moss fit in perfectly and tie the whole thing together.

You have amazing professional craft skill. You probably need a much bigger house. Disney should hire you as a set modeler.

A tip use a hotwire knife and put small indents in the foam and hot glue magnets in there to hold sections together. They workout great, very nice job on everything love the work, I'm planing a big build for nxt Halloween rt now.

    Hey Kelly
Thanks for this video!! This definitely helps me plan a bit better and how to arrange my pieces. I looked up Department 56 and HOLY they are expensive! Can you give me some the stores that you get yours from that may be cheaper? I heard you say you make your trees from flower picks? What is that? I could use some more. I look forward to part 2 of your video. Have you ever done a creepy waterfall or like a lake? That would cool to see. I have picture if needed lol

Hi!! I’m so glad it was helpful! Yes, the prices are bananas!! I’ve had some good success finding Department 56 Christmas pieces at Thrift Stores - around $10 and each. It’s kinda hit and miss, and often I have to search a while before I find any, but then sometimes I’ll find two or three at the same store! We have have several thrift stores in my town. Goodwill and Salvation Army seem to resale them for the lowest prices. Several charities also have thrift shops and they’ll often price pieces higher but still much less than original retail. Yard sales are also another great option…of course requires patience and a bit of luck too! Recently I’ve seen lots of sales on Amazon- retailers selling new pieces for 40%-50%. So the prices can still end up being pretty high at the sale price but this option gives you more control over the specific pieces you are looking for Vs thrift stores where you get whatever is available. eBay can also be a good option for Lemax and Department 56 pieces. I have gotten Dept 56 Christmas pieces in the $15-$25 (low end range). eBay is a great option if you’re looking for retired pieces, but often those pieces will be even more expensive than original retail. For Lemax pieces, the best way I’ve been able to save is to get them on sale when they are 40-60% off at Michael’s. This seems like it’s harder than it used to be as pieces seem to sell out before they get to the sale prices. But maybe my Michael’s doesn’t get as much inventory. If you regularly shop at Michael’s I recommend signing up for their rewards program so you earn points every time you shop. They do add up pretty quickly. I usually have $5-$10 in rewards every time I shop, so combine that will a sale of 40%-60% and you can get some pieces for significantly less!!!

Oh and the floral picks I’ll get at Michael’s, Walmart, Dollar store, really anywhere that sells silk flowers. During the holidays they’ll have special floral stems (picks) to coordinate with the season. I always wait until these go on sale. One pick might cost $15 (and I’ll buy when it’s a minimum of 40%) and have 5-6 stems, which I’ll break into 5-6 trees or bunch a couple stems together to make 2-3 trees. It’s a huge money saver if you like to add lots of trees to your village.
And yes-I’ve made waterfalls!!!! There are some great products out there to give you a realistic effect, but I usually turn to my hot glue gun!! I also made a lake out of hot glue. I’m thinking about doing an ice pond this year for my North Pole village - I’ll make a video of that if I do!
Oh and I also used hot glue to make a creepy sewer waterfall 🤢 coming out of a “pipe” (painted toilet paper roll) to coordinate with my wasteland pub piece. I’m a huge fan of hot glue!!
Thank you so much for watching!!! Have a blast collecting and creating! 🎉🎃🧡🖤

I've been checking out your great Halloween village videos. Really fabulous inspiration. I starting collecting Hawthorne village/Nightmare Before Christmas pieces 7 months ago (not as expensive as Dept 56, but still...ouch!). I've collected Styrofoam sheets (didn't realize the different types until your vids), a hot carving knife, etc. I've picked up some real branches from the yard for trees (but might create some like yours, too). Have several kinds of moss in my craft stash, and definitely want 'spanish moss' hanging from trees.
But my big question right now is what do you use for the autumn leaves scattered around?

Oh I know- these prices really aren’t friendly to our wallets! But it’s so addicting 😂 I like using the Department 56 leaves. You can get them on Amazon - search Department 56 FALLen leaves. I also like Warmtree Realistic miniature leaves. These leaves are smaller but I think look really realistic. Great for lining sidewalks or roads in your display. 🍂 Have Fun!!

OK, I’m ready to set up my village. I have a couch table with big four poster legs and I put it along the wall and I used to have it on the mantle, but then we can’t have a design and decor on the mantle so that had to go because I need more spooky stuff all over and Halloween And vintage and more decor so I was wondering if you could tell me how you get your trees to stay upright? actually take moss from outside and dried it or you just buy it has gotten so expensive honestly but there was a floral shop oh my God the one bag of dried moss different kinds were about $14 a bag. I was like no.

What kind of trees are you using? I’d you use department 56 or Lemax, they have a base that should allow them to stand up, though depending on your ground cover, that could get tricky. If you use loose moss for your ground cover, place the trees directly on the platform (no moss underneath) then fill in moss around the trees and other areas where you want ground cover. I hear you on the price- moss is so expensive!! You can make it stretch further my breaking up the bigger chunks, and if you paint your platforms to match the moss color you can get away with some gaps in the moss and won’t notice it. Also, check out the Dollar Store for moss. It doesn’t come in very big bags, but you can still stretch it pretty far

OK, one minute in and it just seems so involved and overwhelming to me. I just wanted some basic ideas for like risers and I don’t know if you have a video for that like beginning. I have one flat piece of foam board that I cut out put moss on last year And now I wanna do some risers and a castle barely enough Steve space on top of my couch table 8:09

I do have a video on how to make a display quickly and it has just some easy ideas for creating levels. I also have a video posting later today that will cover design ideas for creating a display - including tips for foam, levels, hiding cords, adding lights, trees, and moss.
