They took their radio show to entertain the troops who were soon leaving for the war zones. Often, Ted and Kate paid the expenses of their performers who traveled with them. Over 250,000,000 miles traveled often by train. Richard K. Hayes wrote a great bio about Kate. And she wrote two autobiographies: Living In A Great Big Way, 1938; Upon My Lips a Song, 1960.

Same here! I am 77 and I grew up loving Kate Smith. When we got our first TV in 1950 she was the only show on. She was on for 15 minutes a day and that was all the TV we had. And back in the mid-1980s I had the pleasure of meeting Dean Martin. We chatted and he kiss my cheek. What a handsome and charming man. Here they are together singing. I’ve loved them both my entire life.
If you’ve never heard her sing “God Bless America”, go experience that immediately. If you couldn’t bring yourself to be a patriot before it, THAT will make an American out of you.
My father would sing this to my mother both of them are in heaven now . Nothing kept them apart not even death. Two weeks apart they passed and for one reason or another mom couldn't get cremated ...dad's body got there to the mortuary and then they were cremated...

Many African American performers got a start on her radio and tv shows. She sang at Nat King Cole's memorial.

Kate was a really fine dancer, especially in her earlier days. Few know that, but she is quite adept and fluid, I suppose used to be much more than later, like with Dean here.
I just love that tune but I'm also 67 now, when I was young it was Disco and stuff like that, this type of music we hear here, was for my parents' generation but I have to say now many years after, it was very good melodies they had, this one especially has a strong melody line
