On another channel, they said the monochromatic look is out. I say NEVER. That look is slimming for larger ladies and I love it. Re capris, I don't have great legs, so capris are a cooler alternative to full length pants in the summer. Shorts don't work for me.

I am so glad that high waisted pants came back. I grew up in high waists and find them much more comfortable and personally I think most women- regardless of size- look better in hight waisted pants.

I couldn’t agree more on the capris - ditch them! I am almost 5 foot 10 and I got rid of my capris several years ago. I got a good look at myself one day and I thought I looked like I was wearing pants that ran out of fabric. 😊 I also like larger bags. Carrying a small bag looks ridiculous on me.
I am the opposite. I’m only 5ft2 and capris on me are ankle pants. I am always very happy when they are in because I can actually buy pants that don’t need the bottoms cut off and either taken up or completely re sewn. It’s common for me to have to cut 6 inches off and completely lose any decorative hems.
Love skinny jeans too! I'm 5'6"but have a belly. Love longer capris but I put sunless lotion on my lower legs to mask my white legs! I do have great long legs. I also adore large bags!

Just finished watching, I have to agree with all of your ditches lol. I have been on a weight loss journey since 2020 and have lost 60lbs with 20 left to go. It's definitely easier dressing as you go down in sizes. I'm at 12/14 and my goal is to be a size 10. I'm really not sure why but when I think of that size I feel you can wear anything you want without worrying about any problem areas. I'm not good with exercise so my goal for 2024 is to move at least 3 times a week as well as doing 2 days of weight training to become more toned. I'm a fellow Canadian but spend 7 months a year in the Dominican Republic! Retired last year at age 58!

The 80s was my era too, and the music, makeup and (sometimes kinda crazy) clothing rocked! The best! You look so good in the tapered pants, Cathy. I have similar proportions and I'm keeping skinny jeans and tapered pants too.
I hate short boxy jackets for the reasons you mentioned. I’m 5’8”, Apple shaped and only wear jackets that go past my hips!!

I'm keeping my skinny jeans. At 4'10", I can't have pants that are too large for my legs, otherwise the pants are wearing me and I look even shorter. 😁
I do wear leggings at home but if I go out, I'll wear "cigarette" pants. Those are best for my silhouette.

Well, this is something of a mixed bag for me. I wear bows in jewelry, but not usually on my clothes. I don't wear most of the things mentioned except the color green, quiet luxury, the preppy look, including polo sweaters, which I have loved for decades, and I'm overjoyed that I can finally find them again. And trench coats; I have a collection of different colors. I bought a pair of cap toed shoes just yesterday; I wanted a pair for years and snapped up a great pair on sale.
I’m petite and definitely agree about the Bomber jackets. They do make you look heavier because they are boxy. By the way congrats on the weight loss and you look lovely in the styles you have chosen.

I love big bags because I need to carry all my stuff.
I gave up really big bags when all my kids were school age. I had a discussion with co-workers (at one time) about what I carried around every day. Someone finally said I had everything but the kitchen sink. I pulled out the pack of wet-wipes to prove her wrong. Now I get along with what I carry in my pockets, most days.

Agree on the capris. I ordered the ankle rip stop pants from LL Bean I can dress them up or down . They are very light and last summer I wore on a very hot day with a nice top and I was cool. Also planning a trip and will only bring on carryon size suitcase. These pants roll up so small and do not wrinkle. I would ditch any pants that are bright green. I only wear black navy or dark grey pants.

I love Capris but only with open toe sandals or espadrilles. I still feel like there's enough leg showing to still look elongated. Funny, I just bought an over sized top today. I did think about it, but it's just comfy.

I have a trench coat that I love. It never goes out of style. I love wearing dresses, midi dresses, with a low heel. I really like the Preppy style, also. It's such a fresh look in spring and summer. I think quiet luxury is a very chic look, easy to wear and looks fantastic on everyone. I wear capris but shorter, just below my knee. I am short but don't care if they make me look short. I already am! This was a fun, informative video. Thanks for sharing!

I don’t think I’ve ever worn Capris. I have worn crop pants when I was super skinny many years ago, and it looked great, to your point. I don’t even really like ankle pants that much but I tolerate it. I love green. With my coloring it needs to be blue green. I am definitely a dress girl and prefer that over pants. The length I prefer is midi, A-line. I think you said that you can’t order from QVC anymore. My favorite dress designer is Susan Graver and her liquid knit fabric. I cannot stand to be wrinkled which is why her fabric is so awesome! Always love your trends!! Thank you!

I agree with most of your choices! But I do want to encourage you to search for the right traditional trench coat, if that's what you want. I, too, have a skin tone like yours. I don't wear orange, yellow, or many tan tones near my face. Camel, in particular is problematic. The yellow undertones wash me out. But there are taupey beiges that work. I've found some items, including jackets, that are more of gray-tan or that have a cooler undertone. I find that if a tan item looks nice with a pink shirt, it is more likely to be the right shade of tan for me. Shopping online is really a challenge when we are looking for subtle qualities in color choices! Since you look so good in black, perhaps a white trench would be cute, too.
Capris hit you at the widest part of tour keg, the calf. It cuts your leg into and makes it look short. I love the ankle slacks and jeans.

I'm not a fan of bows, but when I was in my teens and 20's you used to be able to buy many different clip on accessories for shoes. Don't like Preppy either (but that's probably because I live in Preppy country-Massachusetts)! I love Ponte leggings - especially with a long white shirt, and love ankle length pants too. Camel is such a hard color to wear - I can't do it either, or blazers.

I saw an olive colored trench coat on line at Nordstrom, I may buy... can't wear the khaki shade. I don't like belt bags...would not wear capris, or crop tops. I watch the channel of a young woman (30 something) who lives in New York. I DON'T watch her for the fashion. She is ga-ga for the oversized blazer. I've never laughed so hard as I did when she showed "her new love." Cathy, YOU are my fashion maven! I used to wear bomber leather jackets when I was112lbs and in my 20’s and 30’s. Now I look even heavier in bomber jackets. Just below my hips is a better look.
I think a forest green or a sage green would look good on you! And I agree with capri pants--too much room for error!
Capris shouldn't be baggy at the thighs and narrow at the calves. A straight leg that cuts off around the knee is better.

Cathy, I just discovered your videos! I can relate to so much of what you are saying in each one, especially the mental struggle with food. It's cold and dreary here and I'm going to bundle up and walk! My doctor has said my best antidepressant is exercise, preferably walking outside. I don't quite understand how to make sure I don't miss a show in your series, but I'll keep working on it.

Even though I'm not plus size, I am only 5 ft tall which is a problem when it comes to looking my best in clothing. I found that bomber jackets or any kind of to-the-waist jacket cuts me right in half and makes me look shorter. I always opt for either mid thigh or just below the knee for jackets or coats. I don't especially like the look of bombers at all. They kind of remind me of the Sta-Puff Marshmallow Man! LOL!
I asked my husband (who is quite blunt) what colors he thought I looked the best in and he thought the darker jewel tones were the best for me. Not especially all black because he thought that made me look too "old lady" - even though I am 73! LOL But maroon, bright navy blue, hunter green, or cinnamon brown were the colors he thought looked nice on me and all older women.
I like an all black outfit for evening because it looks more formal and dressy, but I agree with him that you see too many older women wearing all black which looks almost funeral sometimes! Soon enough for that!!
I love the Spanx clothing but the price is quite off-putting for me. Since I'm retired and have a very limited social life I just couldn't justify spending so much on a pair of pants or a polo! They do look like really nice quality though. I will be watching to see if they have sales.

I replaced black with a kind-of grayed navy years ago. Not too dark, not too bright looks better with my coloring.

Lots of solid classic info. I would never wear a bomber length top of any kind. On the other hand, I live in my capris all summer. Don’t wear shorts above the knee anymore. I guess if I could find light summer pants I’d give them a try. I wish I could wear sundresses and I’ll keep looking. Not sure what style would be flattering. I would like to build up a cruise/resort wardrobe. We don’t travel often but I’m always scrambling for what to take. I’m dreading a wedding that’s coming this summer because I have no idea what to wear 😩. My whole wardrobe is comfortable and casual 😂
What about a nice jumpsuit for the wedding? Most of my wardrobe is comfy and casual too. I recently bought the Spanx Air Essentials Off Shoulder jumpsuit and I'm in love. There are quite a few from different brands that I have seen lately at varying price points. It's a one and done and can be dressed up to look elegant.

I wear skinny jeans & crop (not capri) pants that are maybe an inch above the ankle. I am 5'2" & have a lower belly pooch. I lost 87 lbs in 2020-21 & still have a belly/loose skin. I think only surgery can fix it at the age of 55. I think you look good in the black as a top.
They make the v neck shirts to low on large and upper sizes I need a fill in piece.
Straight cut tanks or a lace inset that attaches to the bra.
Ha! I can usually buy capris and wear them. My legs are short, and the hem hits about 2" above my ankle bone. Almost an ankle pant. I can always buy tall sized capris. Ankle pants on me.

Great video! It was thanks to your videos that I handed over my men’s size XL graphic t-shirts to my husband (they’re big on him, too, but look a little better on him than on me). As much as I loved these t-shirts from places we visited, it was time I stopped wearing them. We still have the cherished memories but now I look better. So, thank you, Cathy!

Have you considered a trench coat in another colour? I have 3 in different weights, camel, bone and black. The black one looks particularly chic with a bright coloured scarf.

Cathy, what do you think about backpack purses? I have used backpacks as a purse for years because of chronic back pain. I always wear both straps on my shoulders to balance out the weight. I recently found backpack purses on Amazon which look a lot nicer to me. I am interested in what you think about them as a practical fashion trend. I currently have a tear shaped backpack purse and one that is a small rectangle shape. I am an apple shape like you. Thank you so much for your videos!
Hi Allison, I think that it is important to choose a purse that works for you. If you feel most comfortable using a backpack purse, then that is what you should use. I myself prefer a crossbody and don't like using a handbag with just handles that you have to carry in your hands or in the crook of your elbow.

I have to be careful with camel; the deeper tones make me look jaundiced, but the lighter shades are fine. I'm really feeling the pink this year; hopefully we'll see a lot of lovely things in pink for spring.

Cathy another well done tutorial. I was wondering if you could put some Canadian stores on your page as the shipping and exchange prices of stores like Talbots are too expensive for me. There has to be nice trends here as well. I too, ditched the capris a few years ago and would rather wear a light weight dress instead. Also, I would never go out in leggings or sweat pants, those are for home.

Most of the stores that I link to do have Canadian stores with the exception of Talbots, but if you want to order something from Talbots, you can call a location in Canada and they will ship to you for $12, all funds will be in Canadian dollars. The Ottawa location at the Rideau Centre sells Plus size, but they don't carry everyting. If you see a link to Athleta, click on it and it should automatically open up to the Canadian store where you pay everything in Canadian funds. I use to shop exclusively at Cleo before Covid, but then they seemed to take their clothing in a different direction and I no longer shop there. I don't care for Penningtons or Reitmans. I was looking at Laura's but I am unable to link to their store. Hope that helps.
Cathy , thank you for that info, I too was a huge Cleo shopper before Covid and their styles and quality of their clothing changed dramatically! I was sending more items back. I don’t like Reitmans or Penningtons because everything just hangs. I have tried Torrid, but a lot of their products are geered to the younger ladies.
I would ditch the athletic look suits, bomber jacket, bows (reminds me of being a 6 year old with bows on my outfits), big bags tend to make me look sloppy, the 80's are where they need to be in the past, no green for me, oversize dressing again looks sloppy.
I love my royal blue trench coat, dresses, and properly fitting clothing especially after my recent 60 pound weight loss.
Oh my goodness…..I have been searching for a trench coat I like for two years. I ordered a Ralph Lauren one during the Nordstrom sale and I hated the material. I just returned one from Macys because it had too many embellishments and I felt stupid looking. I’ve tried countless in stores and I cannot seem to find one I like. I just want something plain and belted…..I will keep up the search!
I love the Burberry look too, but I also can't wear a camel color. I have to go for a cool or more neutral shade.

I’m short waisted. But I love high waisted jeans. My weight is all from the bust down. And high waisted pants make me look better. I also love wide leg pants. I’m not sure if they look great on me. But they are comfortable and that’s what matters to me. I have leggings. And I wore them with a long sweater. And my husband told me he doesn’t consider leggings pants. Which surprised me. That’s all his mom, who was petite ever wore. Maybe that’s why. I’m not sure. So I usually don’t wear them out in public. Just around the house. I don’t like carrying big bags. I’ve gotten used to smaller crossbody bags. I have a nice blue tote. But it hurts my shoulders when I carry it. I had two toddlers in the eighties. So I was busy. I didn’t spend much on myself back then. But I’m making up for it now. Both my daughters are grown. So I have more money to spend on myself. I don’t wear capris anymore. I did when they wear in style. But I have big calves. I either wear jeans or my Bermuda shorts. My legs aren’t the best. But it’s hot where I live and I’m not going to be miserable in jeans in the summer. I have a trench coat I bought on Amazon probably ten years ago. And it’s lined if it’s cold. I remember my grandmother always wore dresses. I never saw her in pants. I guess she didn’t own any. If we went to see her and she wasn’t wearing a dress, she was wearing a house dress. I don’t think I would survive only wearing dresses. But back in her day that’s the way it was.
I agree with your husband. Leggings are not pants. 😃
