  • After spending the first 5 months of 2024 building Goodford MK5, i have managed to get the layout to a stage where producing a running session will hopefully offer viewers some interest and background to watching the trains running by.
    The layout is a roundy roundy with 4 main lines, a large station with junction, a sweeping curve and around 25 track fiddle yard. The layout is approx 20ftx12ft in size and is built in OO gauge. It is modern image based around the year 2020, which is when i got back in to railway modelling after a 20 year brake. The layout is operated by DCC through the Roco Z21 system with all locos being sound fitted.
    Still loads of work to be done on the layout (plan is to have it built to a "finished" level by the end of the year, so we are nearly half way through). Once completed i can focus on getting the rolling stock up to scratch and finally try and tackle the dark art of weathering some of the stock.
    This running session is GWR stock, loosely based on what you might see running through the likes of Newport, South Wales.
    Here is the running order:
    0:00:00 GWR 800 heading through Goodford town
    0:00:10 DB class 66 follows closely behind on a Steel working
    0:00:45 Colas 56 drags a rake of IWA timber wagons through Goodford station
    0:01:30 XC 221 trundles in to Goodford station
    0:02:09 The GWR 158 and HST both depart at the same time
    0:02:53 66419 in Freightliner livery runs through on an intermodal service
    0:03:22 Colas 66849 Wylam Dilly runs in with RILA recording equipment attached
    0:06:24 First charter service of the day is the VSOE pulled by 67021 and 67024
    0:06:58 A DRS class 68 heads up the Tesco train
    0:08:33 Passengers on board the Venice Simplon Orient Express depart Goodford
    0:09:12 A cement train snakes in to Goodford with 70805 at the helm
    0:10:00 Harry Needle Rail Company 20311 20314 and 37610 run in convoy
    0:10:24 WCRC charter service ambles in to Goodford station on platform 5
    0:11:07 With 33025 and 33209 on the front and 57313 on the rear, the service leaves empty to head back to the depot
    0:12:09 Rather unusual engineers working with double headed DRS 57 and 1 set of Autoballaster wagons
    0:12:31 GWR 57604 on the Night Riviera Sleeper train service
    0:12:41 The Faller Road System van makes it's first appearence on the Goodford MK5 layout
    0:12:57 DB class 60100 stops at Goodford, waiting for a clear path through
    0:13:26 A busy moment at Goodford station
    0:16:37 After the chaos dies down, the class 60 can continue it's journey with its TEA tank wagons
    All sounds heard on this recording are from the layout itself, whether that be from the locos themselves or Gaugemaster sound modules.
    I hope you enjoyed watching this first running session and come back for more in the future

    Those windscreen wipers on the DB Class 60 at 13:14 give the loco a really angry face. Nice layout concept with the very long trains not requiring very long platforms.

    Hi, could you let me know how you changed your Bachmann JJA wagons to the yellow and black network Rail emblem on the side? Thanks for sharing.

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  Місяць тому

      Hi, I think they were railtrack wagons and I rubbed down the blue railtrack paint and then masked and resprayed the yellow stripe. Then just added the Network Rail transfers. It took some time to do and I did it because when received someone had tried painting them and had done an awful job so they needed stripping back anyway. Thanks, Dave

    Lovely running session,how do set up you’re locomotives to run double headers smoothly on DCC do you use the same decoders with same cv settings ?

    • @GoodfordModelRailway
      @GoodfordModelRailway  Місяць тому

      Thanks! Running double headers has been an ongoing issue. I use various methods. Many of the locos have their drive train removed and motor disconnected so they are dummies (like the Harry Needle 20). I did it this was as trying to speed match Zimo and ESU decoder is almost impossible! For the West Coast double 33 and 57 combo, this was tricky. The second 33 is a dummy with no sound and drive shafts removed. Tried that with the 57 too but kept uncoupling so just spent some time speed matching it with the 33. I set all locos to linear speed curves anyway so as long as the max speed is the same it becomes relatively straight forward. The final method is the easiest and I use the same decoder and same settings, sometimes a bit of tweaking is needed but generally they run well this way. Hope this helps 👍
