The Craftsman 17-in 25-cc Electric Start Weed Eater also has the ability to change out different attachments. These attachments include an edger, blower, pole saw, a cultivator for tilling, and a bush cutter. While these attachments are sold separately, if you were to buy each of these tools individually, it would cost 2-3 times as much, and take up a lot more space in your garage or storage shed.
Check out below for even more details and specs:
25cc, lightweight 2-cycle engine for ease of use
Easy start technology for simpler pull starts
Electric start capability eliminates manual pull starts with an electric engine starter (starters sold separately)
17-in cutting width allows you to trim more grass in less time and straight shaft design makes it easier to trim under bushes and hard-to-reach places
2-in-1 bump head combines convenience of a fixed line head and an easy to load bump-feed system. This design gives you the choice of 2 different line sizes allowing you to get most any trimming job done
WEEDWACKER® Trimmer head feeds .095-in bump and .110-in fixed line
Adjustable handle for operator control and ease of use
TrimmerPlus Attachment Capable (edger 91517, pole saw 21427, brush cutter 63927, hedge trimmer 21414, cultivator 91536, power sweeper 495962, straight shaft trimmer 551590, blower 523578, turbo blower 96078, AF trimmer 623418)

388 customer reviews from Lowe’s rated it a 3.4 out of 5 stars
SIDE NOTE:
Ruben first bought the Kobalt 24v Cordless Weed Eater, but because his lawn, front, back, along the bushes and fence line, has a combined linear feet of over 2 football fields, the 24v battery didn’t last long enough to get the job done all in one setting. The tool itself worked great, Ruben just realized for the amount of trim/weed eating area he has, he just needs a gas operated weed eater vs. a battery operated one.
So he went back to Lowe’s, returned it with no issues, and bought the Craftsman 17-in. 25-cc Electric Start Week Eater.
The main reason my dad, Ruben, bought this, was because it had an electrical start, but with all the above benefits, we look to add more to our collection in regards to attachments and look forward to showing you how well they perform.
Until then, let’s go out there and get the job done!

I'm not a guy but i love using all of my grandpa tools he, has a tool for everything. Thanks for the video i just bought this weed wacker, wish me luck.
Pinupcherrycoke, that is awesome that your grandpa has a tool for everything. We feel the same way about our Dad. Glad you liked the video. Please follow up with us after your first couple of uses and tell us what you think. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
I never knew you could start a weed eater like that thanks for the info...
Just to be clear not all weed eaters have that “electric start” ability, but this one from Craftsman does, which is one of the many reasons why we like it. Thanks for commenting Adrian and let us know if you have any questions.
this is actually a troybilt trimmer. this feature is fairly common on troybilt.
Jimmy, you are exactly right, there are several different brands that offer this type of feature.
Does the motor disengage from the starter once it's started ? In other words, will it shear my starter bit off while the weed eater is running ? Thanks
Love Aaron’s combover hairstyle!
Westcoast Johnny, yeah, we all agreed, Aaron was over due for a haircut for sure! Lol
Just bought this trimmer wish me luck! Like the electric start 👍🏽 good vids guys keep it up!!
David, we are glad you found value in our video. We would love to know how it is working for you after you have used it for a couple of months. Please keep us posted if you can. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
I enjoyed watching your video -- I felt as though I was standing around with the guys learning something new! I'm a petite senior citizen and have been searching for an automatic-start type of gas trimmer/edger. As one gets older it' can be very difficult to use a pull start (I've suffered shoulder muscle aches trying to get the darn thing started). I will check out the Craftsman trimmer and the accessories you recommended.
Mona, we are glad this video has been helpful for you. We are a big fan of the electric start trimmer and lawn mower, especially our dad, Ruben. Please let us know what you end up getting and how it works for you. Thanks so much for commenting! :-)
Funny guys but real good review of trimmer!! Can’t wait to see what else y’all post👍🏼

Tools 4 Guys I subscribed! Can’t wait!
Great video, new subscriber, have no idea how there are too few subscribers, will pass your channel on!
Lone Star Cattle, thanks for your support, it is greatly appreciated!😎👍
I bought a new Husky weed eater in Mexico..first day I've had issues with cord breaking..it's junk, and have been wasting too much time taking back to shop for warranty...they gave me a new weed eater and same thing the cord broke... engine is good for the $115 I paid...might just do the drill start and be done with the back/forth shop repairs.
Yeah, unfortunately about a year after this video, this weed eater was discontinued for exactly the reasons you are stating here. Thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!😎👍
Where is the link to buy the bit for cordless drill?
This particular weed eater is notorious for running 20 mins then suddenly stopping never again to run
Happened to me. 3 months old
Chris, sorry to hear that you haven’t had the best experience with the Craftsman Trimmer. Our dad has yet to have that challenge with his and he has now had it coming up on a year. We will reply back to this comment again, if it does start to happen in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
I've had mine for almost a year and usually use it for a hour long and never had an issue
ive never had a problem with mine.
I like these guys. 😆
Thanks David. We always want to make sure the our videos are informative, provide value, and hopefully some good laughs along the way as well. We appreciate you watching and commenting!😎👍
Thank you for sharing the info about the electric start. I was wondering if it would help us get our weed eater started because we didn't drain it last season. So i'm hopeful that electric start option will get us going! I also didn't know that it could switch out adapters for edging. My husband and sons are about to be busy lol!!
Latoshia, many folks, including ourselves, have done the same thing, leaving the gas in the weed eater or lawn mower from around winter until spring. Using a fuel stabilizer can really help fix that problem. We usually use STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, it works great: amzn.to/2UrRSOZ
Can i use a standard drill bit instead?
No, but there is an adapter that can go into a drill or impact driver, that can turn it on. It is in the video as well. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Have you or anyone heard why they are discontinuing the easy start option?
Yes, they discontinued it over a year ago, unfortunately. It was stated that the starter had a manufacturing malfunction.
@@Tools4Guys I bought the drill adapter and it works wonders. Wish they would reinstate it.
i hope i can find that starter thing!! my string just broke!!!!
Oh no...you should be able to buy the stater. Let us know how it works out for you and thanks for watching and commenting! :-)
Where do u put the oil on that model
Mix oil and gas together
Johnny Romo, great question. And Tony is right on this, it is an oil and gas mixture of 40:1
You can buy the mixture already pre-made and just add it to the gasoline just be sure to follow the instructions to make sure you are doing it correctly.
lowes doesn't sell these any more
Geo, we just saw that ourselves. I even looked at Sears, Home Depot, or even Amazon and couldn’t find them anywhere anymore. We are very disappointed ourselves. We do appreciate you watching and commenting!😎👍🧰🛠
Use non-ethanol gas and you eliminate gas issues
Donnie, we have never used non-ethanol gas but based on your suggestion, we may have to give it a try. Thanks for watching and commenting!😎👍
I had a Craftsman with that electric start feature. It cratered after two years and bought a new one. The idiots at Craftsman did not build that feature into the new one.
I've got the drill bit & it sucks
Sherry, I am sorry that you have had that experience. We have recently been hearing on some comments the past couple of months, that this Craftsman Weed Eater series has been discontinued because it's starting mechanism was not reliable. After about a year, it start giving our Pops trouble too, even with his Troy Bilt Starter, despite the fact that it had worked great the prior year. My point is that, I don't think it is the drill bit, it could very well be the actual weed eater itself. Again, sorry to hear about your experience. We do appreciate you watching and commenting and let us know if you have any other questions or if you are able to get it started using another method. Thank you.
pisses me off...electric starters were native/free to troy bilt 10 years ago. then they started charging for it and drove up the price. sure no one's going to pay $50 extra, so tb stopped selling them.....
Yeah, we are very disappointed that this is no longer available. We have had it over a year and even bought the edger adapter, which is what we really liked, and were looking to add more adapters to our arsenal.
Trust me - I'm buying one - the pull mechanism on many units doesn't work worth a damn and some weak guy or gal will give up. Plus, the thickness of the starter cord and material is perfect for creating blisters; if you don't yet have the electric starter wear gloves! Shame on Craftsman or whoever now owns the brand for this TERRIBLE pull start routine. Can't wait to go electric start.
Allan, I hear you, we are a big fan of the electric start for sure! :-)
Electric start failed so bad they finally discontinued that series.
James, thanks for bringing this up. Our Pops had this for about a year and then it started giving him problems as well. We have also had a couple of other comments, mentioning the same thing in the last couple of months. I am going to add to the description below, that unfortunately this has been the case. Our Pops ended up getting the Ryobi 40v Weed Eater. He has had it over 6 months now and loves it: amzn.to/3B9haC2
Thanks for watching and commenting, we greatly appreciate it! :-)
@@Tools4Guys it's handy when it works, but the mechanism that provides that feature on the back of the weed eater it self keeps stripping. I've also had the electric motors fail a couple of times till I bought the attachment for a drill. I looked hard at the electric weed eaters, but none of them seem to have attachment capabilities yet. I just buy a cheap hundred dollar Craftsman weed eater and toss it in 2 years.
