FYI: the 2016 OMEGA Ploprof reissue is 1200M WR and has not only a screw case-back, but also has a sapphire exhibition back, and yet it is still double the WR of the original 600M Monobloc. It also uses the same crown guard system as seen on the Steeldive homage. As for the original 600M version, I had one for about 16 years. It was the most unreliable watch I have ever owned! It never leaked but it wore out(!) 3 movements in 16 years; all the money was in the case, the movement inside the ridiculously thick case was a very small calibre, low-end ETA that did not hack and was near impossible to regulate. Accuracy was crap too, +/-2 MINUTES per day! Lastly, the red button; unlike the 2016 reissue and all homages, this was PLASTIC with a plastic shaft below it. The spring was clipped into a groove in the shaft and eventually wore through the shaft, resulting in the red button spontaneously ejecting itself from the watch! By the time I got rid of it, it was on its 5th button! BTW, I bought mine in 1979 from a local jewellery chain with an Omega franchise as NOS. They had not been able to sell it in 8 years in the window, so they "clearanced" it for AUD $250! 16 years later, I sold it for AUD $2,000 in 1995. Good riddance! I think I just about broke even, considering the money spent on service whilst I owned it. The Steeldive homage may not be a Co-Axial Chronometer like the 2016 Ploprof, but it sure as hell will be better made, more accurate and a whole galaxy more reliable than the original 600 Monobloc!..... "Legends not supported by fact are just fairy tales."

Really? A PloProf with an ETA movement? WOW, you got a really bad copy/fake, specially with an ETA movement (?) when Omega NEVER used ETA movements during the 1970s!!!!. Their movement supplier was Lemania. I have never personally heard from my fellow watchmakers that the original PloProf had ETA movements coz ETA never supplied mechanical/automatic movements to Omega and Tissot until the late 1980s that later became the SWATCH Group in the 1990s. ETA was a supplier to Eterna Watches until the mid-1970s. Are you sure you bought it as NOS from a dealership? sorry to say but yours look like you got a Franken-watch- a Watch with a Chinese made case and an adapted non-original ETA movement= Fake. The PloProf case interior could only accommodate a slim movement, and ETA did not have a slim movement until the ETA 2892 of 1972, and that movement was a very expensive top of the line movement at the time. The Ploprof was normally fit with Lemania 10xx hacking movements like a 1002, 1005, 1010, or 1020, and the 1002 was famous coz it had a sample that tested at +/- 0.0 seconds in all 5 positions and 3 Temps in the Time Observatories, and those movements were slim hacking movements and were beating at 28800 vph!!!! And that thing about the plastic red button, it was not any plastic, but strong nylon and the tube was in metal with a very strong Stainless Steel spring, so it could not had eroded that easy, mine never did. The PloProf was rated at 600m but tested to 1000m with no problems. And my PloProf had the Lemania 1002 that lasted from 1971 until 2003 when it was stolen from me in NYC, and it had almost Chronometer accuracy through all those years, and was serviced just three or four times. So with all that info I am sorry to say but I think you were sold a cheap Chinese or East European copy/fake of it regardless it was sold by a dealer as NOS, specially when you paid 250 AUD. The PloProf always sold at two or three times the price of the Rolex Submariner during the PloProf lifetime, and that price is extremely low regardless it was sold as NOS in 1979. NOS is called when the model is discontinued and the PloProf was discontinued after 1979. I know all that info coz I used to work at the original Omega and Rolex Dealer and distributor in Puerto Rico, and was a Rolex Certified technician from 1974-77 when I enter Med School. And no, I never opened the PloProf. it was always serviced in Switzerland.

Absolutely love mine.....Treated it to a German made Shark Mesh, with a Strapcode Ratcheting Diver,s Clasp. Also upgraded the Spring Bars, the originals were not up to the job in my opinion, on such a weighty Watch. It was within COSC Specs straight out of the box, and has since settled down and received a tweak to get it back to COSC standards......One of, if not the best Ploprof Homages out there.....;) ;) ;)

You did a good job on this review by demonstrating its pros and cons. I am not surprised about the wobble with the bezel because San Martin cautions buyers, on its AliExpress listing, about a similar issue. I believe this is necessary because the lock is mechanically similar to using a wedge to stop a door.

Good to see a review of this watch (and not by some over-excitable American, too ;) ) as it's not been featured much.
I like the Ploprof, but it is a very Marmite watch - I've got a Helson Sharkmaster 600 (cost about $900 with an ETA 2824 movement) which is a homage to the original Ploprof, rather than the current model which the Chinese clones replicate (albeit very similar).
I couldn't justify the cost of the Omega for the odd time I wear it, but the Helson is a nice watch and for a fun, summer watch (it'll never go under a shirt cuff!) the Steeldive is pretty good too, but you've got to really like the Ploprof styling.
I would agree, though, it does wear smaller than you think, thanks to the short lug-to-lug measurement.
    It'll get noticed though! :D

I honestly found it a little trashy. Second hand car salesman type watch. It was a 1998 watch I bought in 2000 from Blowers in hull
£2600 I wore it for 10 years and sold it for £3200. I then bought a Sea Dweller 2000 model year, last of the drilled lugs for £4200.
Still got that with a service in 2015, £600.
Not quite sure it was a good decision. Value wise. Looks wise most definitely, also got a Milgauss GV Black dial 2014 bought for £4000. Not lost money on either I guess, just lost the bling.

It funny how the odd person judges when I am skeptical about ratings like that. If this was a watch that went through millions of pounds of engineering development etc, I would believe it. An homage watch is not known for that kind of investment and guarantee. I focus on it, because many buyers could be excited that their watch is capable of great things, when it is likely that it is not. I should send a few watches to deep sea divers and ask them to test these watches. Then, if the results are positive, it still wont really matter as how many deep sea divers that still wear a wrist watch are there? My mum knows the diving world and said its very unlikely!

Yeah you can prove it. Send it to the hydraulic press channel and they'll test it as they built a test chamber for watches that will easily verify the rating. My feeling is this watch will easily pass unless there is a fault in the assembly of the case back seal or crystal.
Almost every watch they've tested passed easily by a big margin - even very cheap $20 plastic case watches, Russian watches, Pulsars so on and so forth. Many don't even have screw closure of the crown. Some watches they test to destruction and when they finally yield, the pressure is well above their rating.
They can test to 200 bar IIRC which is well above the rating of 1200m depth.

Excellent review and I agree, as a recreational diver, going beyond 15m starts giving the chills, can't imagine how must be going deep as those technical divers.
However... even though I like this homage, as a secondary timing device to the diving computer, I rather take a Seiko or a Citizen real divers than a Steeldive, Tactical Frog, Helson, Seestern, Zelos, Panzera, Spinnaker, etc watch who might look tough, but not able to withstand 10m of real underwater pressure. I doubt any of those have any kind of ISO certification. Helm and Unimatic watches do.
    For desk diving, yes! Subscribed-

Thank you for making the review. If you don't have a watch pressure tester to prove or disprove the stated rating on the dial and caseback, why talk so much about it not being able to perform. You talked endlessly and incessantly about strapping it to a submarine, when the test is done in a pressurized box on a desk. You reviews are often great to listen to and watch, but I found myself saying "just get on with it" more than I ever have before. You seem to have made your mind up about your impressions of the watch before you hit record and couldn't focus on the review for the people you're making the video for. You didn't even show the rubber strap you said came with it. It feels like the review was calling it a $300 toy with out taking it seriously at all until your promo code came to play. You're better than this and I'm glad this isn't my first view of your channel.
Keep striving for greatness! Look forward to how you improve from here!!
