I remember well the morning bell, sitting under the big oak tree peeling potatoes and carrots, waitressing the worker table, the clang clang of turning over the dishes to eat after the singing prayer, the long white sheets over the long tables clipped to hold them down after everything was set for the next meal, the smell of the stew cooking and being in the kitchen watching dad stir it with big paddles. He always got up early to help cook breakfast, too. Wow, what a breakfast feast! Those times were very special especially the hot chocolate after the last meeting. I wondered in awe watching some of the women in the barn brush their hair all the way to the ends that were dragging the floor, then somehow, magically getting all of that hair up in a bun on top of their heads. That’s one area where women could stand out and compete. Who had the prettiest bun? I could do my hair at a very early age. I professed on my mother’s birthday for her, not me, under Hubert Childers, who frequented our home many times growing up. Dale Spencer, Craig Winquist, Jim Price, Liesel Sullivan and so many others stayed with us over the years. We had Wednesday night bible study in our home. Mom helped me with my testimony most times as I didn’t know what I was doing. There are so many memories. So many sweet people, but somehow we didn’t really know each other at all.
I went to convention many years later with my little family, to show my husband how I grew up. He was curious, because he had seen the damage to me and was helping me with all of my baggage, especially abuse. Dad was so proud to have us there and probably hoped we’d join. Not a chance! I looked different, though still modest, I got the looks and you know what I’m talking about. My husband said it felt like something out of the Great Depression and he was stepping back in time. The meals were with plastic utensils and disposable plates by this time and somehow that took away from the beauty of the place. It seemed the lessons for the youth were lost. It felt empty.
I can relate to all you guys have shared and I’m sure so much more. We girls lived for convention, just to have a chance to feel pretty and see the boys. At least that’s how I felt. I got my first kiss at preps, lol, shameful!
It’s sad to know the scale of which so many lives have been affected by CSA and SA, but I’m not surprised, really. My dad told me one time that someone touched him where he shouldn’t have been touching him. I think that’s where the abuse in our home stemmed from. It has taken me my whole life to grow beyond some things to feel free. The guilt was so hard to break. My husband helped me with this so much.
I could go on and on, but will close for now. Thank y’all for what you shared. I’m enjoying your channel, David. I think what you and your wife, Merissa, are doing is very important, to help break the silence, to show that there is a truer way to spiritual freedom. Much love to all of you in your individual journey.

@@MonteMolencamp I started thinking…George Walker…now I remember, introduced this way to my dads parents when he was a boy! They were very poor. Dad held George Walker in high regard all of his life. Dad was a very strict elder.
Sometimes, I still hear the faint whisper, “what if you’re wrong and they are right?” It doesn’t rule my life anymore, though. In fact, it’s easy to dismiss, especially now. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m happy for you, though I know how painful it is, the freedom I’ve fought for has been worth it.
Life just keeps getting sweeter. I’m thankful it’s no longer guided by fear, but instead, love. There was a time when I said out loud, what is faith if you don’t know what it is or what it means? Now, that’s becoming the only thing that matters. I’m no longer afraid to die.

I wanted the interview to keep going. I enjoyed this chat very much. My in laws were certain I'd be miserable and unhappy when I left. To their shock they never saw me that way. I did have spiritual struggles for a time and it's hard to get past all the mind control it all had over me but now, finally, I have the joy of Salvation that the Lord intended for us to have. Not the worry if we would really ever be with the Lord.
I also felt as Monte did about my Baptism. In the Bible once you spoke the words of belief and repentance, it was time to get Baptized. In the 2x2 way they make you wait to be sure you have read all the small print and understand clearly what's expected of you in the 2x2 way. And that you will not go to heaven unless you attend all the meetings, even when sick, (promoted in my area for sure!), and follow all their man made rules mixed with true ones. And then sadly, you still had a poor chance of being saved. And if you get all this, well, NOW you can be baptized. "When we say you are ready, of course!"
So opposite of what God is really about. Also who gives them the right to 'kick you out' meaning, essentially, (think about it), your salvation is taken away at that time as well in their eyes. If you're not going to meetings (and the rest of the above mentioned) you're likely not saved. Right? Who made them God to have this audacity? Big red flag that no one really thought about until they were kicked out. Where did Jesus say any of that? And it was usually always for asking questions. Not for being a pedophile or abusive, etc...those types just got quietly overlooked or patted on the hands, if anything, or if it was a real threat of making the 2x2 way look bad or exposed, relocated. (And they could still go on to molest, abuse, hold their positions, lead, speak in meetings, etc. in their new locations.) So many red flags. So backwards.

"I'll give you some news it never goes away. " Oh boy is that true . When you have been raised in these beliefs, they become a part of your character. 30 years out I still find myself looking at many things through those lenses. There was a lot of guilt, never being good enough , shame for our shortcomings. Even today those things affect my self image and confidance . The pressure to be a good example . Even when I know better.

@MonteMolencamp Good for you. I have to say, however, women got much more of that, then men do
as I saw it , men had much more freedom . Example : I have fine slightly curly, flyaway hair, so I always had little tuffs of hair that popped out from around my face and neck . A worker ( female) grabbed me and gave me a lecture on my vanity, how I was a poor example of the Truth in the world and to my brothers and sisters and then to started pushing Bobby pins in to my head, pinning every hair to my scalp, I litterly had boby pins all over my head. With my bun turned into a tight knot on the top of my head. I was completely humiliated.
I overheard the same worker tell a friend of mine that ,wanted to profess , she couldn't do that until she grew out her hair. Appearance in everything , how you walked , how you did things, how you talked, there you went. That is what started my looking in the Bible to see why .I couldn't come up with a good reason . The way I saw it the references were from 2000 years ago not the 20th century and I was not an example of God , I was someone that no one wanted to be around , I was a freak. That was just the beginning of my search. That said, I absolutely love people in that church , but they make me sad.
It's kind of like the complete opposite of Hollywood.

Have never heard of this religion.
But salvation and receiving of the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with the baptism.
Salvation comes the moment you realise that there's nothing you can do but what Christ Jesus did. And put all your trust in Him to save you. He does save you that moment and sends the Holy Spirit to seal you and live with in you.
Baptism comes late, And its for obedient in a new life you receive after salvation
You can still go to heaven to be with God after death even without being baptised. Because Jesus is The Way, The Life, The Truth.
The thief on the cross is the example.
The vilest offender who truly believes, That moment from Jesus a pardon receives
Praise the LORD praise the LORD
    To God be the glory.

Meetings are the church services. Sunday morning & Wednesday Bible services are in congregants homes. Services with workers/preachers, are usually held in a public venue, such as a library or office that can house a larger crowd. Slang, “going to meeting,” means attending & professing to the doctrine.

Everyone who wsnts to go to Heaven needs to put Jesus FIRST, and develope a relstionship with Him....to whete you can hear His voice; life will get harder and harder....you will need to hear Him. This cult sounds like the Brethren.....my parents came out ....and I had some dealings with a few of them....

You just can't remarried unless your ex- spouse dies ..
Is it different in the states ??
Should be the same all around but I've seen contradictions between countries...why is that ??

I read a lot of comments about "leaving" where people say, "It was the right thing, and now I'm saved." But you don't say where you went. Or you say you're "saved" but mention you're still looking for the religion which is right for you. So, if you still have not found what fits you, are you really saved just because you left something? I'd say not, based on what you're saying in the videos and comment. Just leaving something will not "save you" spiritually. What did you go to? Please be specific and tell us.
My impression is you are doing your best to convince yourself you made the right choice to leave a religion, but why do you not seem convinced you have yet found a true way, event hough you say you are saved?

    • @davidalink
      @davidalink  6 місяців тому +3

The group we grew up in is called the truth or meetings. From the outsiders it’s called 2x2s there is more in the description. We left a work-based religion and came to Jesus-only. Not religion. Religion does not save you. Talking about going to different churches looking for fellowship has nothing to do with being saved.

There are about six verses about Enock in the 66 cannons. Those verses state that Enoch walked with God. Moses, Noah, Jesus, Jesus's brothers James & Jude, Paul and Peter all carred and read the book of Enoch. How do we know? It's the words they all used. There were all the words that Enoch used in the book of Enoch.
