      Hello
I want to give you some more information about who are actually the oldest buildings in Berat.
      1. One of the oldest It's the Castle of Berat, just above that Mosque in top of the hill.
      2. The Churches in same hill above that Mosque and inside the Castle.

I m from Croatia, and Albanians are the best for hospitality,I believe you heard from MonteNegro that is dangerous there, because lot of Serbs live in Monte Negro, and politics between Serbs and Albanians are on low level.Low rate orthodox people live in Albania and because of Kosovo, you can say Albanians and Serbs hate each other.Albanians got 3 religion in 1 country and live in peace,Serbs are more weird, serbs = Ortrodox ,they make equal that just orthodox religion can be Serb. That is short story why Serbs were in War with 4 of 6 neighbors.Im atheist so this is from my neutral position to say what was going on this place of balkans. Also Serbia with politics are more oriented to Russia, but Croatia,Bosnia and Herzegovina,Slovenia,Albania,Kosovo,Macedonia to EU and western countries.Love you videos.

The bad reputation of Albania is a legend nowadays. It’s a lot safer in Albania than most of Europe. Some of our neighboring countries still talk bad about Albania and the worst thing is that they do it on purpose. Anyway thanks for the kind words and wish you all the best. 👋👋👋

Albania love family and tradition , and a guest is a friend , we say “me tpyet kush se çka Asht jeta miq e shoke ajo Asht kuleta” so “if smb ask you what is considered like wealth , friends and guests that’s the real richness” , becouse a guest if a part of family when they are already in our homes

Hello from the Hamner family- we are in Albania right now and looking up info about the area, we saw your vlog for first time. We have a LOT in common with you!!! We are Americans, sold our home in 2014 and have been traveling since then with our daughter who is now 14 AND I just had neck surgery within this past year! We are not vloggers though, even just started facebook page in the last 6 months- Hamners Odyssey. We are considering settling for a few years as our teen wants some roots for a dog of her own...sigh.

@@WorldTowning We are in the castle in Berat. Had a wonderful full moon walk last night and got up early and saw the moonset as the sun rose. I feel like we shared that with you as a result of your video. Thanks for replying!
We toured the National Parks in the US when our daughter was 4th-5th grade, all the way out to Hawaii. Have been to Costa Rica and France to check out places learned about through International Living, and been to Wales and Poland and Germany to check out where ancestors came from. Missed Denmark and Ireland this summer through change of plans with hosts, but that took us to Switzerland, Italy and Croatia. Next is Portugal to check out what we have heard about retiring there, before going to Connecticut where we have taken a caretaking position. I struggled to let the opportunity go and struggled to let go of traveling...so we accepted the role and will try it out for a month and see how it fits. Our teen is low energy, late sleeper, and growing less interested in travel, and we have always aimed to be a team, so we are listening to her requests, knowing these travels have shaped her in ways like confidence to ride a bike alone from the house to the village, learning language phrases at least to communicate simply. We had her visit a school this summer with a neighbor tween and got to speak in a few classes where they had just studied about the American teenager! But for the most part she has had a void of teen encounters. How do yours stay connected with peers?

Haha my family used to buy the turkey weeks before Christmas and keep it in our small garden and overfeed it to gain weight for maximum return on investment 😂😂 this took me back. also the guide is exaggerating a little bit when he said that if you just knock and they invite you in , they will ask who you are but basically they wont turn you away if you need food and a place to stay or simply you are a foreigner and curious about us .99% will take u in it doesn’t matter if you’re a total stranger. I remember in a hot summer day in 1995 or 96 some Arabs who had been to visit a near by mosque knocked on our door and my father answered , their translator explained they were curious to visit an Albanian family to see how we live so they knocked at a random door. My invited them in and they stayed for lunch. I remember my dad gave me money to go buy some beer to serve with lunch and their guide promptly stopping me because Arabs don’t drink alcohol 😂

@@WorldTowning well, the thing is... everyone has its OWN experience concerning the same fact...for example I am pretty sure if you and me get the camera and go taking the same picture NEVER will be the same, and the fact is the same... so when traveling I always pay attention to what people say BUT doesn't count to me when deciding where and when to go and believe it works fine for me...!! We had an Albanian family running a diner type restaurant in town. They weren’t very friendly. They were hard on the wait staff too. They didn’t last a year with the restaurant.
But happy to see you had a wonderful time!!
If ppl told me not to visit somewhere, I probably would not. Happy it worked out for you. Looking forward to your next video.

There is no excuse for treating other humans poorly, but after visiting most of the former Yugoslavia countries I have sympathy to what they have been through. Not an excuse for bad behavior to an employee, just recognition for how hard some people have it. We are so lucky to have our American passport and not experienced such struggles. As a side note to listening what others say about a place. We do have a couple of tight travel friends who I would listen to as they know our travel style and level of hardcoreness. 😉Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this Madeline.

Sketchy Zero I’m not judging all ppl. Sorry you thought that. Just this one person. Being a frequent visitor to the restaurant and knowing the wait staff as they were part of the previous owner, I know the hardship they faced. And actually one waitress is a friend and an Albanian, she too was stressed.

Congrats on 10K subscribers! You guys are so amazing. I can't say enough about the quality of the video editing for one thing. You are a very talented man, Will. But the editing would mean nothing if you guys didn't do such danged cool stuff! How brilliant to meet with the locals, cook with them, talk with them, live with them. It makes everything you do so rich. As for the question of the day. I plan to tour Europe by RV, but will be solo. I think it makes sense to be a bit more cautious. However, I think there are ways to do anything as a solo female. First, I will be attending World Towning U before I start (it may be a while from now.) Second, I might connect with a group of people if I plan to go somewhere with safety concerns. There are ways to overcome anything. Can't wait to see more from you. I also can't wait until you guys become a U-tube phenomenon. I'll be able to say, "yeah, I started watching them when they were just starting."

    • @WorldTowning
      @WorldTowning  6 років тому

Thanks! Will has worked so hard to be a great editor and tell our story authentically. I will give him a high five for you. We live in an RV (as you know) so I can do it without leaving my seat. 😉
As for touring alone as a female, there are a lot of solo travelers, men and women. You will do great and everyone is incredibly friendly. Tonight at our campground is a community dinner. We are in the south of Greece, no tourism and many people have been here for weeks so we meet up every Friday night. So cool! Also, many people caravan. We saw a bunch of folks doing it in Morocco. This is not to say Morocco is unsafe, we love it, but others who have never been want to feel comfortable doing the crossing.
Yes, you are welcome to join our class. We offer it in the fall (sept) and winter (jan) for 10 weeks whenever you are ready.
Ha! The happiest part of what we do is when people sub because they believe in our mission of sharing the world and its people with those who want to travel in the future or those who cannot. And if that means phenomenon, well, then we won't object to that either. 😜
Thanks again for your support. You will love RVing Europe.

Berat is called "Qyteti i Nje mbi nje dritareve" which is literally translated "the town of 1 on top of 1 windows".But "Nje(1) mbi nje" sounds like "nje mi(mije/thousand) nje" "1001" . Hence the confusion.

    • @WorldTowning

They are open to frank conversation, welcome strangers into their home, share food/alcohol/other goods with visitors when they make significantly less than other European countries and are non-judgemental. We also ran into Albanians in Macedonia and Greece and this appears to be a trait of Albanians in general. We were only in the country for 1 week and this is based on the Albanians we interacted with in several countries.

@@WorldTowning Yes but you do have to realize that when it comes to religion , there is a very big divergence between the albanians living in albania and those living outside albania ( as minority in macedonia or as ethnic albanians in kosovo ). Albania having been multireligious experiencing an atheist regime and opening up by the millions to europe which is continued by the millions coming as tourists from all over the world has a substantially more different religious composition - namely the vast majority are flirting with agnosticism with christianity gaining much much ground despite the turkish funded and arabic funded mosque bulding , buildings that remain just empty) . So next time , when in albania do not ignore the churches if you are going to show the mosques. You truly have no idea of the religious demography of albania ..... for whatever it is worth from a person that has spent countless of hours studying them.
