I keep saying this: ABORTION IS A BODY-AUTONOMY ISSUE.
Even if we accept the insane proposition that personhood starts at conception or the moment electrical impulses seem like a heartbeat, these laws still weigh that unborn, potential “life’s” rights OVER that of the person who is CURRENTLY an existing, living person. What argument can be made that a potential life has MORE rights than an existing one?
A simple analogy would be the following situation:
A person has kidneys that have failed, they are in a coma unable to communicate and dying, despite being hooked up to medical equipment keeping them alive for a short time. Then, it turns out a loved one (husband, wife, sister, brother, whatever) is a perfect match to give a kidney. Does the government have the right to FORCE that loved one to undergo surgery and provide one of their kidneys to the dying person in a coma? NO.
So why does the government have a right to tell a woman that, BY THREAT OF CRIMINAL PENALTIES, she has to use her body to sustain another person’s life?
There’s a reason the original Roe v. Wade happened in the first place. Because EVEN IF the unborn/not-yet-alive are “people” they DO NOT HAVE MORE RIGHTS THAN ANOTHER PERSON. No one gets to have rights over another persons body.
I am certain the so-called “pro-life” groups would not want to be FORCED to give a kidney to a someone because they’re a special class of person with more rights than them, thanks to a law. It is the same situation, and we need to start explaining it this way so people understand what “a woman’s right to her body” means in other scenarios where they aren’t blinded by the idea of a baby.

Women are central to family life, and so by oppressing women, authoritarian governments can effectively control the population. We are starting to see that playbook in action here.

we passed felons rights to vote using the ballot, every citizen is a voter, that's what the people wanted, but then republican politicians passed legislation to stop them from voting until they pay all debts, a standard not applied to anyone but felons. Many of them don't know and aren't told about their debts, which have been accumulating interest. This is the "ballot" option.
This has literally been going on for decades, their long term efforts are just now coming clear as the GOP come out of the closet. About the same time the Bill of Rights was signed into place a Woman's Equal Rights Amendment was initiated and started circulating amongst the states. It in 2021 it still lacked something like 16 states to be ratified. It was brought in front of a Federal Judge by the Federalist Society if I remember correctly. That Judge ruled that it was expired and dismissed it. The reason it wasn't completely ratified was because the republican held states refused to do so knowing the eventually they could get rid of it. The Republicans refused to extend the time line. In 2022 Thom Hartmann did a blog about 244 bills pertaining to Women's Rights, some of which were decades old came in front of the House and Senate to be re-ratified as they had to be re-ratified every 10 years. Not one republican member of either house would vote to do so. One of these was the Violence Against Women in the Workplace bill. Bernie was able to get a few tacked on to a package through the Senate, but most expired!
2023 Republican appointed Supreme Court Justices threw out Row v Wade. Many red states had laws waiting to go into effect when Row v Wade was tossed out, they immediately went into place! This is not a coincidence by any way you want to look at it!

I couldn’t agree more with what Senator Sanders is saying. The question is: what to do about this assault on our personal freedom to make choices that are in our own interest. It seems to me that: 1) Congress must pass a law protecting a woman’s right to choose-specifically to use contraception of her choice or have an abortion; 2) start the process of passing a constitutional amendment protecting same.

There are so many changes in the air at this point so many suggestions on a radical upheaval of everything we've come to know is normal and are united states, we have got to start thinking ahead for the new laws that we need to encourage put in place to avoid the crisis situation that we find our government in and our people facing as they try to decide which way to vote and whom to trust

If only young voters even understood how government functions but so many n my opinion do not, or are too easily manipulated by some politicians and social media.Until citizens make better choices for candidates to office things will not change. Civics needs to be a core of our educational curriculum. You are an exception. A man of honor. I do not agree with all your views but respect you tremendously. The break down of voter demographics in the Dem primaries for Clinton vs Sanders, showed Bernie was very popular with younger voters, male and female.
That really only happens when someone is a Man of Honor, and can be seen to thinking about the future country those young voters will inherit, rather then the money grab of past and present political figures.
