Getting to the emotional core of the TC storyline should have been the play from the start, and I think it would have made a lot of people more accepting if we saw it in a way that wasn’t delivered like a PowerPoint

Honestly the most happy I was with all that stuff was in Wild Blue Yonder where they talked about that stuff and the Flux and we could see the Doctor emotionally affected by it then afterwards just kicking and beating the wall with pent up emotion. I suddenly cared, because I saw the effect it had.

Would be PISSED if he found out about the Timeless child story cause he always said that the new doctor who in 2005-2011 had to many jokes in it which took away from the seriousness of the plot cause he saw bits and pieces of the show one it was rebooted but if he found out about the doctors history being reconnected he be furious about it and it fucks with the whole of the classic series of doctor who that he grew up watching.

What it does is open new doors to new stories. The show is 60 years old. That means it gets harder to come up with new ways to present old material. In the end repeat creep enters the series and it loses all freshness. The whole reason this show has survived is because new makes for new directions. Regeneration (1966), Timelords (1968), Unit (1968), Master (1970). These are some of the things that rejuvenated and brought fresh new directions to the show. The Timeless Child thing reintroduces something to the Doctor that was there in the beginning (1963). It brings back anonymity. Lets face it. In 1963 the Doctor was more concept than a character with an specific origin Although the origins are a bit different now, we have returned from once we came because with anonymity comes all kinds of opportunities to spin new tales. And that is the strength of the Timeless Child.

Anything Chris has written isn't canon and should never be considered canon, You can't write something that contradicts 50 plus years of canon, I understand Russell is friends with Chris but dude needs to understand what Chris wrote is bad and shouldn't be incorporated into the future of the show
But granted what I just said is too late to say now considering filming and that Russell too doesn't care for canon anymore as evident by the dumb Davros retcon

Right so it sounds like their not so much going to be diving deeper into it and trying hard to explain it. They just want to use it as an emotional beat for the Doctor and Ruby to connect and bond over and honestly? I'm happy with that, we don't need to know where the Doctor was from exactly. I think that just adds to the charm "Doctor Who?" Who knows? And thats the point.

Jodie's era was awful, and when Chibnall dropped the Timeless Children it was the most destructive thing the show had ever done. But Timeless Children seems irrelevant now in the light of the unspeakable damage RTD has done, creating the worst series of the show ever, which utterly destroys the franchise in a way Timeless Children never did. Timeless Children was basically just backstory, but RTD has completely changed the entire genre of the show. It's now no longer sci-fi, it's a magical fantasy show where ghosts are real and the Doctor is a wizard who can literally do anything, and who sings and cries all the time and who is now engaged to a man.

The Timeless Child was a worst version of what Robert Venditti did for Hawkman in DC Comics: the big difference being that Venditti actually did something with his premise - we actually got to know Carter Hall's original incarnation, the Deathbringer (and his people), who began the endless cycle of reincarnations, as well as other previously unknown incarnations of Hawkman. We even got to see them all team up together to save the Earth. Hawkman even got back all of his missing memories from all of his past lives.
What did Chibnall do with the Timeless Child? Nothing. What has Davies done? Nothing. There's no point playing it up for "drama", when the Doctor could get back his missing memories at any point, from the fob watch placed inside the TARDIS. You could've expanded the character, and thus the series' mythology, shown us hundreds of past lives, let us get to know them as distinct individuals with their own stories and conflicts and companions, that could be told across audio dramas and TV specials and novels and comic books. You could've used the Timeless Child to build up the "Doctor-verse" as a multimedia enterprise. You could've shown us lives that the Doctor spent entirely on Earth or living on other worlds. You could've shown us where the Child came from, its planet and people, and why they can regenerate, if they're even still alive. Chibnall wanted to add to the mystery, but did little to deepen or expand the character; unlike what Venditti did for Hawkman.

To be fair, Chibnall not showing why the Doctor was a foundling, and everything that happened before that like their origins is the point, with being a foundling you know absolutely nothing about your origins, your birth parents, and the circumstances of your birth, which fits perfectly with the very question the title of the show asks and also the original mystery of the Doctor, not knowing anything about their origins was a deliberate choice by Sydney Newman, one which The War Games went against. For example in the unaired pilot of An Unearthly Child, Susan says that she was “born in the 49th Century,” but because the Doctor’s origins were intended to be a mystery, it was changed to “I was born in another time, another world” so with that aspect of the Timeless Child, Chibnall reintroduced the mystery of the Doctor, but I completely agree that the Fugitive Doctor for example should’ve had more focus. I think that her incarnation would’ve been a great way of answering as to why the Doctor left Division, and ended up being mind-wiped and forced back into a child.
