No toe scuff protection whatsoever. That's all I needed to see. Thanks!

Shall I paraphrase that you are disappointed that the CX333 does not have a tow bumper?

Yes! I'm to practical and expect my shoes to last a long time. Our 403s have nice toe bumpers :)

Oh, I asked about those custom heat moldable insoles probably like a year ago. Still curious to hear how they are, as a cheaper alternative to the UA-cam gems, G8s. I'm still running some SOLE brand performance (cork) thin insoles with metatarsal pad. I like how thin they are, and generally comfortable but maybe not the greatest amount of arch support.
Also, according to Alex Dowsett's recent aero testing, laces are faster than boas! I have a basic BOA on my Lake MX 176s, so no micro-adjust to loosen, but I do find myself tightening after a few minutes, once my feet settle in. I'm with you on wanting to feel secure, especially when standing on climbs on my fixed gear.

I'm keeping a close eye on the 333s and at the same time wondering if they could be the answer.
What would be your guess? I have a narrow heel, low volume midfoot & wide toe box.
You're the first one I've heard talking about them in the same sentence. It's usually either you're narrow all the way or wide with chunky tree trunk feet. What if you're a bit of both?
Great stuff, love the content! Especially all the in-depth stuff about Lakes.

Thanks for watching. I don’t know if the 333 would help you. It’s a narrow shoe as I mentioned in the video.

See I don’t have a problem with BOA popping and becoming loose( I am using their wide shoes) the one issue I have with them is when they get dirty they become really gritty, and don’t want to pop and become loose at all. This only happens on my winter shoes.
More lace options would be nice, I think people don’t realize their is a technique to lacing shoes and keeping certain parts tighter and others looser.
Arch support in your cycling shoes is so underrated. I finally went to an insole because I have low arches (I’m using the CUR REX branded insoles) and I have them in not only my walking shoes but all my cycling shoes. Excited to see what you think of the Lake Inserts, they’re only slightly more expensive than the brand I use. May be worth giving them a try!
    Safe Riding George!

Don’t you know you’re supposed to wear booties to keep your shoes clean during the winter? 😂 ha ha yeah I don’t either 😂
Lace-ups are awesome. I wanted to talk about my Lake CX-1 but they are discontinued so I don’t know if I should.
I’m curious how the Lake insoles compare to my SQ Lab insoles.
      Thanks for watching Ian !

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad northeast winters don’t care about my booties unfortunately:( even the Spatz heavy duty booties which are the best I’ve tried.
Sq labs doesn’t make an un-ergonomic product so that will be a hard one to beat! Excited to see what you think!

In short, if you use a CX238 regular width, the CX333 regular width has a similar width for fitting purposes.
Before if you use a CX238 regular width to get same width in a CX332 you would need CX332 wide.
Long explanation: The change for last width naming was to make it easier for comparing Competition Last (CX238) to Race Last (CX333/332). Regular Competition last and Regular Race last are now more inline for width. Wide Competition Last and Wide Race Last are now more in line. Before the old naming made it sound like the Extra wide Race Last was the widest (wider than Competition Last) when in fact the old Extra Wide Race Last and Competition Wide Last were about the same width.

I’ve been having numbing on my feet since i started cycling and have gotten multiple bike fits and can’t seem to figure out what’s causing. I’m riding speed plays and i have both wide shoes and regular shoes. I was wondering if maybe you can help me

Not a fan of speedplay pedals and their cleats for starters. But I don’t have any recommendations for you unless you were on my fitting stand.

I am a Lake fan. But my favorites were replaced by a new model and it just doesn't cut it. Many mistakes that make it worse than it's predecessor.

I’m with you on the BOA system, I find them problematic. As for narrow toe boxes and pointed styles of shoes, as I understand it these pointed shoes were a product of wealth. Back when we road horses we had to ride in stirrups and mostly people that were more well off had horses. So, it became known that if you wore a narrower toed shoe, you were probably wealthy, causing the style trend to go in that direction. We hadn’t thought much about this as a thing over the last couple hundred years, but now it’s starting to be looked at more. I think we’re seeing it flesh out a bit in the newish bare foot trend that’s taking place. Just a side bar of useless information.

That is an interesting origin story. Idk how in fashion they are now, but square toe boots are an option nowadays, I wonder if they make it harder to get your feet in stirrups. One things for certain, sneakers with their knobby outsoles, lack of heel, and flex at the arch aren't ideal for riding.
