Man, its wild how people still miss the point of what Craig is doing. Is not difficult to understand, if the most prestigious championship of jiu jitsu is paying like shit, doesn't matter if the athletes will be considered the best and have all the glory if they cant pay the bills and Im not even talking about those who will not win.
Putting the CJI in the same weekend is perfect, now we can clearly see what the athletes really want. Is it the money or be the world champion and receive almost nothing?
And we have to talk about it how ADCC is shady as fuck, we know that Danaher crew has special treatment, Meregali did a stupid post saying that he asked Mou to change the bracket so he can face guys that he wanted to fight, then he said that people were stupid and couldnt understand what he said..
CJI will be as stacked as ADCC, and everyone will receive the same amount of the ADCC winner just to show up

sooo because adcc was first it's hands off their time slot? Craig's goal is to make the sport better by bringing more money to the athletes and more eyeballs... competition does just that. adcc will either step up and start paying athletes more money to match or beat Craig's offered money levels or they will fade from the stage... as it is with everything.

As much as I hespect Xande as an athlete, I think a few of his points don't quite hold water.
Firstly, ADCC DO underpay athletes, both in real and relative terms. 20 years ago, 10k wasn't a lot of money, it's even less now thanks to most of that value being inflated away. 10k for months of training, risking your health and time? I make more than that a month sitting behind a desk. And that's only if you win, you get 5k for 2nd and nothing for anything after that. Other organisations pay athletes MUCH more than ADCC just to show, why doesn't ADCC? Isn't it supposed to be the Olympics of grappling?
Secondly, his criticism of CJI funding. ADCC is funded by Arab Oil Barons who live like kings in their own country at the expense of others (and in some people's opinion also poison the planet Earth). I guarantee you that these people are obstansibly less moral than any investor in the CJI, short of Al Capone.
Thirdly, Mo has stated multiple times that ADCC is not profitable, and loses money every event (which no one actually believes). Well, if that's the case, and if these investors have so much money, why not throw some extra money to the athletes, like CJI is doing? After all, it's non profitable anyway, what does it matter if these billionaires lose another 500k giving out fair pay to athletes? At least CJI is open about being non-profit and is doing lots of work for charity, which ADCC isn't.
Fourthly, the LIE that just because you win ADCC means that the money will come 2nd hand, or that you become an instagram megastar, is just a hilarious and disingenuous way of excusing their cheapness. Giancarlo, Ffion, etc.. Aren't multimillionaires (or probably even normal millionaires), and haven't exploded in terms of popularity after their wins. They also have integrity of character, and are unwilling to act like fools in public, unlike Gordon, Galvao and Meregali, for fame.
Fifthly, CJI HAD to put their event on the same day as ADCC, if they didn't, they'd have no leverage over ADCC to make changes. I heard that even ADCC is even paying athletes to show now, isn't that a good change?! Isn't this a tacit acknowledgement that this is working?
Sorry Xande, but I think you're out of touch.

And always a change its gonna make people against and on the side. But the first step its already made it, someone did it....some has to do it.... Not against. If on the future the athletes on grappling get better paid nobody is going to complain no?

Craig is making the landscape better for all Bjj athletes, ADCC has started to bring more money to the athletes only after CJI picked up speed so the proof is already available. And Craig is saying athletes don’t have the leverage to negotiate for money when all the stats are hidden, the UA-cam thing is just helpful for people to know

Initially, as a fan (consumer), I didn't like it. But I realized that the grapplers ("workers") need to do a strike, disrupt the business of ADCC ("of the capitalists") to squeeze out major beneficial concessions. And setting CJI on the same date as ADCC's already produced results, like increasing women's pay.

Regardless of what ADCC has done for the sport, it does not make what they’re not doing right. It’s fucken sad that it’s takes Craig to get them to try and make changes when they have been around for a long time. So there is no better time since they had so much time to do something and Craig is all about taking care of the athletes while they aren’t.

The woman are literally making double because of Craig. He’s already increased how much ADCC pay people. Everyone is a winner here. More matches for fans, more pay for ADCC athletes, even more pay to show up and win for CJI Athletes.

  • @gsp3428

#1 this is business, nobody owes nobody. #2, how are athletes ever gonna really get paid without something like this. Alot of fighters will make nothing but will dedicate their whole lives to training. The fact a hot dog eating champ can make more than an ADCC champ is bad. What Craig is doing is possibly changing the future of the sport for the athletes for the better. ADCC will die possibly if they dont start really paying their athletes. These guys are the best in the world, a medal is great but wont help you in the real world when you need to take care of your family.

By definition adcc is not treating the athletes correctly if the top prize winner gets 10,000 and they pay 2 million for an arena, and they pay the bongo drum players more than 10k. I like xande, but that makes no sense. They don't pay the athletes enough, they insult the athletes with the amount they pay them, the athletes put their lives on the line and most of them make no money. Craig Jones is basically right and I don't mind if he makes adcc suffer. ADCC will become better based on the CJI's competition.
Xande is an established bjj icon, so he has forgotten what it is like for the young bjj star who can beat everybody but has to deliver pizzas to keep a roof over his head.

What he's upset about was he competed his whole life for the achievements alone and barely got paid, now the scene is undermining the organizations he built his legacy in (IBJJF and ADCC) and pay is going to go way up across the board. This is probably just the start of his bitter feelings.

Xande's take is so wrong here. Just because grapplers in America dont get well compensated doesn't mean they dont deserve it. Top division Sumo wrestlers make six figure salaries plus bonuses. ADCC has long been funded by shady middle eastern guys. Why criticize CJI for having an unknown backer? Really seems like he's immature and pissed that some guys will become millionaires on the his "big day"
