Early Season Tactics from a boat on Grafham Water

  • In this video I share some great early season tactics as well as take a look at some of the new tackle boat bags from Wychwood. I share a boat with Tom Finney an experienced boat angler and guide. Grafham opened up for fishing on the 01 Apr and there was plenty of sport to be had on the water. A recent cold snap probably subdued the fish somewhat but they kept us bust most of the day.
    I can hardly wait to visit Rutland water later this month, now that fishing is back on the cards I am like a kid in a sweet shop! Let me know how your fishing trips are going in the comments section below.

    Lindsay, sorry I'm so late commenting, but I watched it early in the morning and was too tired to comment. I was actually up when you started your livestream but if I lose anymore beauty sleep my wife will start feeding me with a slingshot!!
    So I have watched this video six times so far, I think it is one of your best, plus it has soft water in it!!! Tom did very well! Tom if you read this mate, when I was younger I had an old Codger to teach me as well, Lindsay will Excel at the position but for God's sake don't tell him I said that!
    I went back and watched you tie the Humungous or your version of it, I watched Tom doing a fairly fast retrieve, I didn't get to watch your method but that's okay.
    One thing I appreciate is that I could keep a trout for dinner guilt free because they are stocked. I will never keep a wild trout and that is primarily what we fish for here. I do go to a couple of stocked lakes down East of Calgary towards Banff not sure if you ever got out that far when you were here on maneuvers.
    I'm Sorry this is so long but unless we do a FaceTime it is the only place I can chat with you.
    First you and Tom were probably cold, you should have a couple of belleclavas! Not only would you be warmer but you would look like two burglars taking a break!!! 🤣😂.
    In the Spring here, we fish the shallows, the water is generally a degree or two warmer and the leeches are out looking. We also fish on the shoreline that the wind is blowing into, it tends to blow feed up onto the beach and if the breeze or wind creates a feeding frenzy, especially if there are some drifting Chironomids. I have put my fly on the beach from the boat and had a fish on as I strip it back into the lake!
    Spring time here, especially immediately after ice-out, the Lake Trout are in shallow water in post spawn. These Lakers can easily get sell into the double digits.
    Flies you folks use, tend to be large and bodacious, whereas often our patterns are usually more subtle, though there is always a time and a place for other patterns.
    So I'm sorry this went on and on, if you read this far thank you and if you didn't, I'll understand LOL.
    Fake care Lindsay!!

      Kerry I always find how the fishing is in other countries fascinating. I also wish that I had spent more time exploring different fishing opportunities in other places in the world. I am where I am though and fairly happy still time to explore. Of course I read it to the end, I read all the posts and am humbled that folk actually take the time to watch the videos.

    Nice vid mate . Looking forward to getting back on the lake at the end of the month . Hopefully we will have lost these cold North winds and the buzzers will be on !

      To be fair Tim it might have been an idea to try the buzzers over where I knew there were definitely fish. The trouble was the wind was gusty so one minute you might have got away with fishing buzzers the next it was too windy. Still a great days sport pal.

    Brilliant video Lindsay and liked the look of the EVA boat bag.. Oh and don’t worry there’s no shame in pulling in those kind of conditions 😉

    Enjoyed the session, good luck at Rutland, loads of fish being caught to buzzers. One boat had 60 recently.

      Oh wow, 60 fish is amazing. I would be happy enough with eight good fish.

    Good effort 20+ fish to the boat when they wount get their heads up in a cold wind, love the look of that's rs2 comp rod 😀

      Thanks 👍 The Comp special is really fast actioned, great for sinking lines. I prefer the RS2 it does everything and is a little more forgiving in the action.

    Hi Lindsay, great video! How do you decide when to fish booby flies and when to fish lures when fish are deep down? Also would you ever put a non-buoyant fly on a dropper when fishing a booby on fast sink line, or is it always 2 boobies?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  Рік тому +1

      Thanks pal, each situation is different very often I will just fish a single fly. Other times two flies. It all depends what I want to achieve from the flies. I am always happy to chop and change till I crack the code.👍

    I have been fishing for 55 years . I think you guys no doubt know your stuff but fishing is not all about catching fish . If it was I would give it up . Big fish whether stocked or overwintered who really gives one ,. These videos are just advertisments for fur and feathers or fishing gear . Id rather watch a true trout fisher walking the wilds and catching small browns . Music is bowf also . Anglified fishing

    Any info on Tippet and luggage prices/release date ?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  3 роки тому +1

      I think the luggage is available from next week and the tippet we were using was the Ghost Mode at 10lb. Hope that helps pal.

      @@lindsayiflyfish Thanks Lindsay. Tippet info does help as does seem to change annually especially with flurocarbon.Rebranding and changing procurement sources.

      @@ShotawayFilms Yes, I was told that fluro was only made in like three factories and just sold as different brands. Not sure if thats true.
