  • This was going to be a normal review video of the new EA500LM, but it just kinda organically flowed into a comp video. Hope you like it. I learned a LOT from the LM and from the OG EA500 and of course my sentimental favorite KATO had some things to say as well. Oh and I did NOT end up nozzle rolling for this video. Each was tested using their "stock" components... aside from the ear tips. You will see why in the video! Enjoy!

    500lm are my best balanced set. Embrace that open detailed and resolute treble. Stock tips are great. Eq +3 around 300hz for a little more heft in the notes. I pretty much eq everything as you can only do so much with physical tuning and I'm not turning down a free performance boost. I also have the Zeos render tips and can't find anything they sound good on. They change the sound sure but make better? Nope.

      I really like the LM too. I will try your suggestion on Peace EQ & USB player pro. Appreciate that information! I’ve “grown out” of my Render tips. They are still on a few sets, but only due to fit issues I was having. Now that I’ve figured out my left ear canal is L and my right is M, I’ve made adjustments and ordered opposites of what I had.

    Love the Dunu "buckets" (and the EA500LM)... But I wish the buckets had more sizes (ML and MS) because they need very precise fitting for long sessions (and I've discovered my right ear canal is a little wider than my left). Bucket size M is too small for my left ear, but L creates a little too much pressure after a while and starts to hurt.
    Edit - I wrote the above just before hearing you say that your ear canal sizes differ.
    If you are in contact with Dunu, please can you let them know we need more sizes. I've already written about this in the Dunu Discussion thread on Head-fi

    • @BassDad8
      @BassDad8  6 місяців тому

      Yes. I’m the opposite. It’s my left ear canal that’s slightly larger. The s&s mediums are simply too small. I have to use a L on the right and an XL on the left. Dunu would definitely benefit from more sizes on these as a bad seal is disastrous for them. Wish I was “in contact” with them, but hey, it’s worth a try!

    Thank you for this review. You are making an already massive impact in this community! I had always wanted to spend on the Kato but I couldn't afford them. I am glad I can get better for cheaper if I decide to buy the LM.
    Thank you for not throwing everyone into the 'I can get all the iems I want' bucket. This hobby can be expensive really fast for people at lower incomes around the world.
    The Dunu buckets🤣 are a life saver. Helped the fit and comfort of most of my iems. Thank you for your contributions once again!

      Well it’s early yet, but I think that’s just about the nicest thing anyone outside of my family has said to me all year. Thank you. Wow. This hobby is a bottomless rabbit hole and I’ve definitely jumped into it without much caution. But I recognize that and I’ve stemmed the flow of IEMs flying at me from mainland China until I get caught up - review-wise and financially. At some point I will get a TOTL set so that I have a “reference”, but my focus is on value. There’s a ton to be had for under or slightly over $100. And $75 and $50 and $20-$30. There really isn’t any need to overspend, especially if you shouldn’t. I definitely did, so if I can help other people to avoid the rabbit hole, then I’m doing exactly what I set out to do. It’s a wonderful hobby, with a ton of great options out there and you don’t need a kilobuck set, or 50 different budget sets to get full enjoyment out of it. Thank YOU for the kind words and encouragement. And don’t worry, even though I’m on a buying hiatus, I’ve got plenty of sets still to review. So I’ll keep going! ☮️

      Depends on how much treble energy and extension you like. The EA500LM excels at that, but it might be too bright depending on your tolerance. The T10 on the other hand is much more smooth and natural sounding in the upper frequencies. It doesn’t seem to lack detail either. So I think they’re n pretty equal footing, but they differ in tonality. Which one is preferred is definitely a personal choice 😀☮️

    If you go for the balanced nozzle for each set both will be sillibant. The lm had more depth and resolution. The red silver lm nozzle is the most balanced but a bit of sillibance will show up on songs. Is the lm driver better than ea500. Yes but if you like a close sound stage the ea500 is a really good option. If you want nonsillbance go with thieaudio iems. Are the ea500 and lm good iems, yes but you have to accept sillibance. But if you cannot and really should not, they are total shxt set. So I am on the border they can be good but the sillibance they can be total shxt. i have over a dozen chifi iems and only s12 and ea500 have been sillibant. Is it acceptable with its treble tuning..reality no way. But thats the trend in an over saturated chifi sound.

    • @BassDad8
      @BassDad8  6 місяців тому

      Very well put! Totally agree on your assessment. I can handle the sibilant nature of both the ea500 and the LM. I do think the LM handles it better though. The only thing that really turns me off regarding treble is if there is not sufficient bass response to balance it. Or if it’s completely over the top, which some sets are… I was hoping ChFi was headed to a more natural sounding, polished place, but we will see…

    Aune Jasper vs EA500/LM vs Kato. Where does the old Aune stand among them?

    • @BassDad8
      @BassDad8  2 місяці тому

      So since I can’t comp them in person to the Aune Jasper, I went to squig.link and used Aftersound’s graphs to overlay all 3. The LM has the most bass of the 3. The Jasper and Kato are almost identical until you reach the treble extension. The Jasper has a pretty serious dip around 10K but rebounds around 14. It is a very curious tuning and actually overlaying all 3 kind of shows you the evolution that general tuning has gone through over the past several years. But I can’t hear it and graphs only take you so far. If the driver quality is as good as the marketing states, Im guessing it would hold up well against the two “newer” sets. But if we are going on bass response, the LM has the clear advantage. And the quality of its bass is very good as well. Wish I could be more helpful…

    • @BassDad8
      @BassDad8  2 місяці тому

      Yes. Definitely. So I think your best bet for ear tips would be the Final Type E, or Divinus Velvet. The type E has quite a small bore, so if the two, I think I’d take the velvet tips, but both will warm them up a bit. The best mod for warmth and taking the edge off the treble without sacrificing performance are the bronze Moondrop Kato nozzles. They can be purchased on their own for about $12. For me, they made the biggest difference and I use them with the LM 100% of the time now. That mod combined with the Divinus tips… yes that is my top recommendation. Hope this helps! ☮️

      @BassDad8  6 місяців тому +2

      I don't have the em6l to comp, but from what I have seen/heard it is the more balanced of the two and has a less spicy treble response. The LM is at the very edge of my treble tolerance, as is the Ulim, but I still enjoy both sets. I think that the consensus is that the em6l is the "better" of the two sets, but that depends on your treble preference and who you ask. I kinda wish I had both of those and not the EA500 OG and the LM for a bit more diversity, but that train has sailed...

    oh man, i am just in a decision paralysis now. Like you my first IEM with decent money is the blue KATO, i decided on ARTTI T10 as an upgrade/sidegrade after your review, but realised they are not available in my region >_< so F1 Pro it was.
    so what i gathered from your reviews is that ea500LM or F1 Pro are an upgrade to KATO, while at the same time costing way less than KATO. Then when i think about spending as much as kato the only options available in my region are Aful Performer 5, Chopin or Quintet. So now i am confused whether i sould spend less or more for an upgrade.
    If i decide to spend more how much better is it going to be %wise compared to spending less. Also if i do spend more; out of chopin or quintet which would you recommend as a complement to kato in terms of sound signature (not considering performer 5 since you may not have reviewed it.)
    Also since you already own kato, what would be the reason to justify buying an Ea500LM or would you buy one of the planers instead ?
    lastly would rather buy 2 of the cheap ones rather than spending more instead ? if yes what would those be.
    Sorry if its a bit long ended. hope you can provide some insights.😔

    • @BassDad8
      @BassDad8  6 місяців тому +2

      Okay so I’ve been exactly where you are. Which is why I own so many freaking IEMs. lol. Don’t do that!
      Let’s start with a process of elimination. You can’t get the T10 so that’s out. The Kato as much as I like it is now pretty much obsolete, so that’s out. The Quintet is not as good as the Chopin, so that’s out. I don’t have the Performer 5, so I have no opinion on it. That leaves you with 3 IEMs to pick from. EA500, F1Pro, and Chopin. From there it’s going to be personal preference. The EA500LM leans bright, but has good bass to balance it. The F1Pro is a warm neutral, balanced and fairly natural sounding for a planar, and the Chopin is your true reference set, but with a lot of energy and dynamics. Price aside it’s the Chopin. My preference for an all rounder is the F1Pro. If you like thumpy bass & pretty bright treble it’s the Simgot. If it were me? I’d get the two less expensive ones to have some variety, but if you just want to walk away with one set from this and not have to worry about FOMO, get Timmy’s Chopin. From a technical standpoint it’s the best iem I own. From a personal enjoyment aspect, it’s second only to the T10 which you cannot get. But like I said, if it were me, I’d get the two less expensive options. And of those two the F1 Pro wins for me. Hope this helps!

      @@shantanusahu9168 It is not as clear cut as I thought, but only because of a major modification to the LM. Stock vs Stock the Chopin is smoother, more resolving and more detailed, especially in the treble. That is vs the LM with the Red/Silver Nozzle. But I knew that was not all the LM had to offer. I had previously put the Moondrop Kato bronze nozzles in and the difference is remarkable. Gone is the sibilance. Gone is the little bit of shout in the upper mids. The LM becomes something greater than it was even at its best with that nozzle swap. The sub bass is more extended and the mid bass is more present as well. I don't know man. I feel like if I had to choose between the two, I would take the Chopin. But for $90 for the LM + $13 for the Kato nozzles, + $9 for the TRI Clarion tips I have on them... That's $112 for something I feel is nearly, and I do mean nearly as good as the Chopin.

      You were using eq wrong! What you did with the rolling of all the things, lol, that's the same way to use eq. Mods are cool you have something permanent but eq opens up tuning options to another level. Especially when you are stuck in budget world. I find gems with good drivers then I can mod if needed to in order to tweak the small nuances. Then you can tube with Eq to different IEMS with same driver configuration. It's amazing what you can do with a $5-20 iem!!
