- Doublelift recently claimed his return to playing on Team Liquid was sabotaged by Dodo, the teams' General Manager - and he shared the receipts on stream.
This has come at a time when Team Liquid’s performance in the LCS has been heavily criticized by their fans - and Dodo has now said he’s received death threats.
It’s not pretty - here’s all the details.

A lot of commenters seem to be missing the point about this story. It's not about whether you think Doublelift is a bad player or a bad coworker. It's about Steve wanting to build a roster with Doublelift and Jojopyun, but Dodo undermining that decision because of personal issues.
Dodo could have said "No" straight to their face about building a team with Doublelift (and he'd be perfectly justified in doing so). Instead, he pretty much lied to both of them and acted against Steve's decision. For the people saying that Steve planned this all along, that would be very convoluted because Steve could have rejected Doublelift from the start instead of having to perform mental gymnastics through Dodo.
"DL is an entitled pain in the a** to work with, I'd rather quit if he joins" is what I am hearing here, and it seems DL does not appreciate that.
And it also seems the org valued Dodo OVER DL, not strange at all, it is THEIR CHOICE.
Asking a question: "what is your dream team" is NOT the same as "whatever DL says is our law".
Again DL does not understand how the real world works and the consequences of his big mouth is DEATH THREATS towards others, NOTHING NEW HERE.
Yet Steve hasn't fired him.....sounds like Steve is a bit of a snake also.
yeah just you are assuming DL is telling the truth, while for me he isnt, it makes more sense that Jojo wants to play with Berserker rather than DL just by performance...

Exactly, dodo pretty much undermined Steve and team liquid, I think that’s the main thing.
A major topic being left out is what they were talking about in general which is how GM’s and Coaches in LCS and Esports are really bad and aren’t professional.
Example: GM’s letting their feelings dictate building a competitive roster, and hiring friends for management position even roster spots rather than whoever is the best fit. Also Regi having a big signing because Jack said he had a big signing (Perkz).
The reason their feelings mattered is because doublelift has already proved to be detrimental to the team if he isn’t fully invested in it. He also isn’t top tier anymore so it’s perfectly reasonable that TL simply didn’t want to put up with it
@@joaobrito2653 Makes sense until you take into factor that the Steve the owner of TL was the one that asked him why would the owner ask DL? Also why would a you let emotions dictate a business move especially for a top Org like TL. We can’t even say “TL” decided this as in the management made this decision when a single individual made this decision.
Not only that we know TL was never in pursuit of Jojo which is insane as we know the teams with the top bid were C9, LCK team, GG, and FLY. Which validates what DL is saying how could the GM of a top org not chase after the biggest talent in LCS? If anything TL horrible rosters and lackluster performance in recent seasons with just validate this issue of management in LCS.

Impact, Umti, Apa, Yeon, Core… that is an embarrassing mediocre team with all the apparent time saved. Especially when Gori, Zven, Stixxay and many others were free agents mind you they’re even cheaper as with less teams the worth of players goes down severely.

This whole 'within the company' crap is pure BS. This wasn't just some random TL employee, it was the GM, and it's the GM's job to sign players and build the roster. It's LITERALLY his job, so what happened wasn't employee sabotage, but owner meddling.
It's pretty obvious what happened here, but it's not like Dodo can publicly blame his boss for meddling so he ends up taking all the blame. Really just a stupid situation all around, but the worst is the League fans who don't know wtf a GM is, so they start sending him kys DM's lmao. Like wow, you guys are dumb.

See the biggest issue with this is it peels the curtain back of how these LCS teams do business. They are always doing these underhanded backroom deals and trying to get other players on board with talking out of both sides of their mouth and backfires because you're literally telling them there is a 50% chance you are the one getting backstabbed. Like why would anyone join a team where you have the GM saying that another player (who you know and are friends with) is so (Bad/Toxic) that if your team hired him you would quit so he doesnt have to worry we will go and try to get your player you want. So both situations are bad. You trash talk players behind closed doors to other people in the industry. You are also willing to backstab players to get what you want. OR you are incompetent at your job which down the road will effect the team in a negative way that other players dont want to deal with.

I'm not a DL fan, but I think if you leave him as a person aside, it's quite normal for "questionable" GMs to not want players in their roster who'd be vocal enough to expose them as the frauds they are. Honestly, I think most of the western teams have at least some rotten apples in their management/coaching staff.
If you look at the LEC, the only team which invested in some form of catering AFAIK was G2.
The others tought it's better to save the cash and only have some fruits or whatever, which is absurd considering the costs otherwise involved.

DL was the scapegoat for the demise of that TL roster. Jungle was having extended visa issues, top and support were inting that split. This narrative needs to be revised.
All NA scene doesnt care about the LCS, your are an NA Org and you recruit EU/KR players, those players are loosers in their own regions, they quit a competitive region for money. What did you expect ?

are you forgetting that DL was the only consistent piece on TL when they went back-to-back-to-back-to-back? the only time he had a lack of commitment was when MSI was cancelled and his team was in shambles. Spring split literally didn't matter, and he came back and won another championship in Summer. Also DL was the only piece of 100T that didn't 100% shit the bed.

@@juliusreycalderon1998 all DK's win is from lower tier teams, the only top teams they won against is KT. KT is also the oldest average age team in LCK, yet DK is still struggling against them.
For a proud player like Showmaker, he is not going to settle with this.

If DK org building a half ass team around him, he might as well go to “retirement home” LCS. He will grt better money, less work and still get to world each year just like current DK.
What i do believe is that Showmaker is a proud individual, it take balls for someone to announce "lets restore Korea glory". DK is not building a contending team, thry are building a "not look bad" team. If that is the case, pay him (but they aren't), then I will go somewhere pay good till you get your shit together.

The LCS is starting to face the same issues as any aging game, where there isn't as much young blood coming in and those who are left have been burning bridges for years while team hopping. I don't have many examples for moba's but a great FGC example is FilipinoChamp the Marvel player, bounced around all the time and made enemies then became damn near un-hirable.

He didn't play absolute shit on 100 thieves. He played well in most games, but the team was inexperienced with 2 rookies and the comps were too reliant on DL to hard carry every game. That is just like why C9 lost this split. Jojo had to carry this season and drag his team as far as he could but he got targeted over and over and banned out. It is a team game, it doesn't matter how good Jojo is he can't carry every single game. And these offers DL was talking about were before he retired again, not for now.

Also in 2020 DL was hands down the most dominant ADC in the West he had won 4 championships in a row, but his team was in shambles and MSI was canceled. What was there to be motivated about? Go watch all the clips, see how many times Lenna has to correct/interrupt/remind/warn/tell DL during his streams. DL can carry his games, maybe, but he has always been making so many IRL mistakes that can be PR disasters/legal nightmares.

Used to be an enormous fan of DL, he was my favorite player since back in the days of CLG with him and aphro, but at this point im just so tired of the dude. Wether he was wronged or not, the dude is just drama now. The dude completely lacks humility, and is just a drama farm everywhere he goes. He tries when he wants and fucks off when he wants all his team be damned, because its all about DL. Man I don't dislike DL, but man is he just difficult to deal with. As far as death threats go, that's the fact that we live with piece of shits in this world who I wish could be held accountable. That can't be put on DL, Dodo talked shit and tried to play both sides by apologizing to DL and then defending himself personally while never acknowledging the situation.
What it sounds like is Steve was interested in DL, DL was interested in Jojo, and Dodo was ALREADY interested in Jojo but wanted nothing to do with DL regardless of what his owner wanted. If there is anything DL isn't, it's a liar, so most of the blame is actually on Steve. As for Dodo, what Steve did may have been out of his control, but how he handled it wasn't. It was absolutely moronic that he attempted to defend himself publicly when he couldn't place any blame on his boss, for obvious reasons. He should have just approached DL personally and told him what the deal was, that's the kind of person he is.

I don't really follow NA LoL, but am I wrong in thinking that Doublelift is like 95% Drama, 5% actually playing LoL? I get most of my NA LoL news here, so it legit seems like that's a fair estimate.
yes he does have all the drama, but also carries the viewership and best LCS player of all time, basically the MJ of NA
he is retired so yeah mostly drama - HOWEVER, drama from players like DL who are either big enough to not have to care or already retired is actually a great way to see behind the scenes at how these managers operate, players currently playing on rosters are super restricted in what they can say for fear of not getting signed again (you think Jankos doesn't have shit to say about heretics treatment of perkz and kaiser for example? or bds players dont have anything to share on their star player getting benched in playoffs for a disagreement with the coach?)
a lot of retired players have already come out and said that teams are super poorly managed for a professional scene and that they felt actively sabotaged at points by managers or coaches, DL is just more specific in his examples
look at TL: their Korean roster was a bust, at worlds summit and pyosik got so angry at the coach for putting apa on resource-dependent carries that they essentially rebelled and then took the internal beef to twitter and TL management decided to just ran it back with apa anyway (who still rarely wins lane and gets caught on repeat when fed).. that's a management issue - people dont like Dodo because of all that, the DL story just reinforces what people were already thinking of him

Regardless of how shady Dodo looks as a human being, honestly this looks worse for Doublelift to me, he needs to accept the fact that he may be a good player sure, but he is not the better option over so so many in that role. He's coming from a perspective of someone whos feelings were hurt, and someone who is deeply motivated to tell a tale, add content to his personal stream, that may inflate his own ego and slam a company that hurt his feelings all in one go.
