    In this video we brought back the CK Worldwide WF-5, which is a machine that helps make TIG a wire fed process. In part one we looked at the wand, which is used in the "wire feed" hand to automate the feeding process so you are not limited by the cut length of your filler metal. In this episode we look at a feature that completely frees up your off hand. This torch attachment will feed the wire directly in front of the TIG torch allowing you to TIG weld with only one hand, similar to MIG welding; but with all the advantages of the TIG process.
    In this video, we used the Mr. TIG Series Water Cooled Everlast PowerTIG 250EX. For more on this machine, visit the Weld.com Store: weld.com/index....

    I've been welding with this coldwire tig process for about 3 years....... it's meant to mimic a automated weld... I'll come back tomorrow when I go to work and I'll post a video to show MR TIG HOW IT SUPPOSE TO LOOK.... HIS WELD IS....BOO-BOO

    wire speed needs to be higher, or maybe i just weld too much alum.. either way it looks like globular transfer and it needs to be smoother. if you get it just right into the puddle it should tig like mig

  • @hypehype1982

    Seems like you can run into lack of root fusion and the wire seems to be burning off prior to the parent metal melting. Probably ok for general stuff but I would not like to use it on pipe of anything used in a critical situation.

    I can see something like this being nice for production welding. Your close-up shots and camera angle were exceptional! It was great to see how it actually worked. I noticed at 7:38 that the filler was falling into the puddle at irregular intervals because the heat being reflected away from the top plate was making a ball on the end of the rod. It's not as precise as putting the rod right where you want it at the exact moment you want it there. I imagine you could compensate for this by changing the angle of the feed for a specific type of weld, especially if this was a production situation where you were doing the same weld all day. Great video, thank you!

    • @nathanielpalmer1771
      @nathanielpalmer1771 2 роки тому

      I noticed same thing you did. It seems like the angle it feeds the filler in should be much closer to the plate so it dips into and cools the melt pool rather than just dripping into it.

  • @AnasSuhaimi
    @AnasSuhaimi 3 роки тому +1

    I wish someone would make wire feeder with stepper motor, and we could set finite amount of filler material fed into the pool per button press... eg. 5mm per click... rather than how long (time wise) the machine will feed the wire at vague speed (slow or fast).
    This way we can weld as usual, move forward in increments, and have uniform beed size.

    Love the setup... But maybe it would work better based on a mig setup??
    We mig a lot of very dirty materials... Rusty, corroded, dirt and mud, oil, grease, even manure.. high flow 100% CO2.
    Sometimes I wonder if Tig would be better due to less heat, not so sure about that now.... Those beads look worse than mine on corroded manure covered equipment...
    No offense Mr. Tig!

  • @michaelszczys8316
    @michaelszczys8316 5 років тому

    At my job I do cold feed using a MIG weld head to feed wire with my left hand and TIG with my right. I disconnect the power to the MIG and just use the wire. I have to run it super slow ( like .5 ) wire speed but it works.
    Be a man, use two hands

    • @michaelszczys8316

      I make 10 to 23 inch welds where using 35 wire you could go nuts trying to keep up so I just use wire feeder. With what he was doing he could probably just hand feed the wire better.

    How difficult would it be to let the wire feed do what it was meant to do? Let the wire feed, feed wire and let the argon gas flow in. Everything else requires a foot pedal . You have control of the wire with the trigger. Can this be produced with a MIG welder?

      patrick farley I think he just didn’t have a clue how to really set one up. I’m in the process of building one myself from an old 90 amp flux core cheapo welder. I bet I can get way better results.

    A nice vid there! Thanks for keeping the sales pitch minimal. :D
    Some questions on the wire feeder. Are there any issues with "back feed" of current thru the wire to the drive, if the welder and wire feed machine are not on the same circuit and are not "earth" grounded?? Or would having both grounded to the work create a circuit?? I know the current "follows" the shortest path, but I am curious about possible setup issues.

  • @x9x9x9x9x9
    @x9x9x9x9x9 10 років тому +6

    But why? Why not just mig weld the joint? The only thing I can think of is less noise and spatter. But the point of tig is precision not endurance.

    • @Welddotcom
      @Welddotcom  10 років тому +3

      You still get the precision of TIG. You still have a foot control and all the ability to control your settings. This is ideal for applications such as commercial kitchens, where you can't have any spatter or places where bacteria can potentially grow and welders are continuously doing long, production type runs.

    there's already an autofed wire welding process.....

    • @patrickmcneely7388
      @patrickmcneely7388 8 років тому +2

      This allows to you to control amperage and filler metal inputs independently whereas with other autofed wire (constant voltage) processes the filler and amperage are controlled together. For example, in MIG welding you turn up the amperage by increasing wire feed speed.

    • @Mad.Man.Marine
      @Mad.Man.Marine 5 років тому

      Also for someone like me that builds aluminum boats. I absolutely need to weld with 5356 wire for corrosion resistance. So as we all know 5356 looks like crap most of the time when welded with a mig. So being able to use something like this is awesome. Plus the fact that I’m doing weld runs that are 16 or 20 foot long. That’s would be a ton of stopping to grab rod. Also most of the welding is done out of position which sucks. It can be really hard to have your pedal in the right spot. I’m ether gonna build one or buy one for sure.
