Thanks for this series. It was easy to understand and very helpful. I also really appreciated your efforts to make it look slick, I tried watching a DMX video by someone else who had the camera pointed at a light and talked from off screen. I couldn't pay attention.

In each scene within the chase for the pars also record your other fixtures at full so for each step in the par chase the other fixtures remain at full.

Thank you so much for these tutorials! I have a question: I am interested in using the midi signals sent from a drum pad to trigger DMX lighting. Would the Chauvet Obey 40 work for this?

Uniquesquared: Do you have any experience with Velleman HQ Power Galaxy 250 (moving head)? I have two of those, but I can't get them to react to sound, even though I followed the instructions for sound-activation in the manual.

I am using a Elation DMX controller and a midi keyboard to control it. I have a row of 8 par cans and 4 strobes and 2 moon beams.
My question is: Is there a way I can have them all on while the cans chase by themselves?

hello ! very interesting tutorials. I have a question.
I want to handle 20 led rgb tubes, I want lettering and effects, I want to use them as a screen. I know about the madrix software works, but, I have a mac computer and the madrix doesn't works with it, and It is very expensive. So what software compatible with mac you recommends and what kind of interface. Thanks !!

Thanks for your very informative series on DMX. I have a question, which I can't find answered anywhere: I want to use LED floods for a portable theatrical stage lighting rig. So, I want to control, maybe, three sets of four lights. I want to select colour cast on each set and fade them up or down with one fader each. I would like to have a master fader for all together. I want each set of lights to turn on/off/up/down to individually and stay at the level set, possibly simultaneously So my question is, what controller would I need?. What sort of controller do I need. Chauvet 40, or similar, or something completely different?

Look at airdmx for ipad, download it and try it out, it is very good, you can make push buttons, then you have program fade time for each lamp or a group of lamps you can also run the moving head and adjust the color without disturbing all the rest. you have to buy the hardware (airdmx) from thomann or from elsewhere, you can probably not use other programs for your hardware, and if the iPad turns off the program still go in the hardware.

Ok if I wanted to have 2 or more lights to do the same exact thing should I leave them in the same channel ?

    • @tomwolf2864

JayKeyz2010 Right, just give them the same start address

My question is, If the fixture/device/light/par typically only uses 3 to 5 channels I.E. red, green , blue, maybe a master and a strobe, that's 5 faders. Why are the other 11 faders always wasted?

QUESTION - So say I want to use DMX software like Luminair for larger live stage acts?…….. BUT……..I also need to use a show controller that will control the lights in preprogrammed patterns? They will be triggered by a control system for a large restaurant/bar. For instance - Bartender goes to a control and hits the start show button. Moving heads point at the stage, floods go red and purple. so on and so on. This would be done by the show controller. Yet they pick up the iPad, switch on the Luminair software to re aim the spot? Hmmmm.

i am looking to control my DMX "universe" (about 10-12 fixtures) in time with my live band. i want something better then the music mode from my fixtures tho they work nicely is there a way i can program chases and scenes and switch them manually with a foot switch or something? what would you recommend for this?

I'm probably going to buy the Chauvet Obey 40. 16 channels per fixture 12 fixtures. But is it possible if you only use 8 channel fixtures to put 2 fixtures within one fixture?

When my light is using 3 channels do I have to put the second light on channel 17 or can I put it to channel 4?

    • @felixs2625
      @felixs2625 7 років тому

Phyzer no, you can patch (so we name the addressing of lamps) in one row e.g. lamp one has 3 channels, you can patch the next at channel 4 but be carefull! two ore three channels place between the lamps can save your whole show, because some lamps are "spoiling" a few channels behind them with a little voltage and the lamp on this channels would get false signals

Depends, if you use software to control your lights through a dongle, you can. If you use a controller like the Chauvet Obey 40 as shown in the video, you can not, because that specific controller is made for 12 lights, with 16 channels per fixture. That means that when you connect a fixture to the controller, it automatically reads it as channel 1-16, because it has those control channels per fixture for it.
(Correct me if I am wrong anyone..)

"Software is compatible with Macs, as well as PCs"
However it shows a mac and a windows icon. Not every PC runs windows. Mine for example runs linux. Please be more precisely in future as it might confuse users :P

If you want to get really technical, Macs ARE PC's.
