There is comfort in knowing I am not the only one who loses that feel completely in the middle of a round like I have never played before. Good video as always, Matty.
Loved it. Just played yesterday after watching this and a few other videos. Shot 84 - usually high 90s. One hole was under construction so I gave myself a bogie based on average play. Left 3 birdies within 6? feet with misses of a couple inches. Like you've said , I went to my comfort zone and for me hit irons only. Driver/woods give me 2x, 3x bogies so ditched em. My 4 iron is as comfortable as my 9 but woods always ruin me. Going irons only, removing hazards with layups was exactly what you said, getting up and down which I didn't. I really feel so empowered now. I chunked two chips, 3 putt twice and only one 2x bogie ...with the birdies I left I know breaking 80 is happening this year. Thanks for reiterating leaving your ego, it was so hard to go irons only and off the first tee I was already being razzed for 'not having the balls' to hit a driver but I LOVED going toe to toe score wise and always being in the fairway. It made golf FUN! and I never got mad at myself, and said the bad chips happen and moved on.
I’m down to a 6 handi but my emotions still are the biggest reason I go from mid 70’s to mid 80’s. These videos are helping me so much! Ego has been holding me back
My back completely tightened up yesterday while playing nine holes. Thankfully I was still able to play well within 150 and getting up and down for pars. Ended up only shooting 1 over by using your advice by just staying out of trouble and making smart decisions. Your tips have completely changed my game. You're a legend.
Should start all of his videos with a random golf question that gets progressively weirder as the weeks go on, and then just answer them with "me neither '. And then "me neither " needs to go on merch.
Best channel on YT. The mechanics of the game will always come and go resulting in good and bad rounds. But the mental side of things can always be applied to any round. Really appreciate all the knowledge you share GSK!!! 🙌
Completely lost my iron play lately as well. Got to a 9.5 index and now shooting 85+ regularly. I am just gutting it out and trying to simplify. Picturing the shots is helping get me back on track. Thanks Matt.
in the exact same boat as you brother. Got to 8.7 at end of last year and now up to 11.9. Trying to get back to consistent 80-84 rounds and the occasional break 80. Best of luck to you
Just had a trip out to Cali for a couple rounds in Palm Springs and to play Torrey. Shot 80 at Indian canyons and 90 at Torrey with a +6 on the front. Wind got crazy on the back and went +12. I just try to find one swing I can consistently rely on that I can know where my misses are, aim accordingly and most importantly commit to your line and swing. I think it’s the same principle I have to relearn every year. Swing your swing and commit. Cheers and good luck out there 👍
Matty Boom Boom, golf Sensei, once again delivers the good with a video that really talks to the average golfer’s experience. One the best of the best.
this video helped me break 80 for the first time the day after I watched it. The way Matty plays when he doesn't have his best is what I'm like most of the time, and this video helped me realise my potential and keep everything together enough to shoot 77 (+6). Thank you playa!
Shot 85 today by parking the driver after 1 swing with it, started teeing off with the 3 hybrid and dropped 7 strokes from last Friday, Thanks Matt, it works....
Playa...I lost my swing about a month ago. I had to bring it back from the dead, so I have been playing with a zombie swing. This is a very timely video and I'm happy to say that I have my first lesson soon. Great work planting a couple birdskis even on a "bad" round!
Couldnt have come at a better time, was playing my best golf, shot 5 over and 3 over on the front 9 of my local course as a 14 hc, played last week and it was like i had forgot how to swing a golf club, pulls, shanks, blocks, you name the miss, i had it.
An absolute clinic on how to score when you don't have your stuff. Great job Matty! Managing the self is WAY harder than managing the course. Great video!
This video is perfectly on time for me, as my last round was a total meltdown to include the score, my mindset, my swing and putting…it was if I had no control of anything…
Me yesterday, completely lost my swing outside of 100 yards. Topped almost every shot. Never had that issue before. Luckily my short game was the best it’s ever been. I recalled your advice and kept my cool to finish strong.
I looked up Red Tiger and found two versions on Amazon Red Tiger store for $94 and $99 US. Better than my Caddy Tek from Costco at $120 that I thought was a pretty good deal. I am on the bus line of struggles lately so this video will help. Plus, I think 'beating a broken record' is pretty good for most of us to get the point across on how to get out of a terrible mindset and salvage a round going badly and also gain some knowledge through the struggles.
I like the fact that you are putting your entire body into the swing. F=MA i.e. using everything you have in a rhythmic fashion. Much different than what most people do and look like when they hit the ball.
I swear this happened to me yesterday! I played 3 rounds of golf and then went out for a round with some friends. I could not hit anything! Pulling hard right I was down 2 clubs on yardage. I am going to rest up a couple of days and pray to the golf gods the game comes back. What little of it I had in the first place 😂
Man, I needed this. It's nice to be reminded that it happens to everyone. Been practising a ton, but went from striping the ball and having the most confidence I've ever had, to suddenly 'skanking' like I've never played. Happened out of nowhere. In fact, I birdie the first hole -- using all the tips I've learned from @GolfSidekick :) -- and then just BAM! 2nd hole on onward was a disaster. Will get it back sooner than later though with this confidence booster!
Havent watched yet, but my thoughts just based off the title: Sometimes golf is really hard. Effort in doesn't always equate to great results, and I've been working reaaaally hard to improve my swing, but still struggling with consistent contact. Looking forward to watching this one
Just ordered the range finder through the link on the video and as a bonus it had free shipping to New Zealand and a $20 Usd voucher discount too. Look forward to giving it a go.
When's the Playa's Playbook being released? You drop so many nuggets of information in a video it would be handy to have a quick reference to review before heading to the course!
I hit a nice drive with the wind at my back. Par 4 390 yard hole. Right down center 225 yards . Next shot my 4 hybrid. It sliced right and banged into an oak tree on the right side if the green. Fell straight down onto a rock. Bounced 10 feet from the pin. Sometimes when you lose your confidentiality, karma takes over
I got addicticated 😉to this channel in the past 10 days. So many great thoughts. I have never broken 80 on a par 72 course in my life, a few 81s were my best rounds, and these days I can shoot 85 or 98 on any given day. What I seem to lose (in the high 90s rounds) is not so much the swing itself, but my ability to set up properly, which then leads to not being able to commit to the shot at all, because no matter what I do, I feel uncomfortable over the ball and not confidential at all. I'd love it, if you could make a video on that topic. Keep up the great work please.
If I “lose” my swing somewhere in the round it’s inevitably because I stopped thinking about feeling the shot and being shot oriented with 100% commitment and started thinking about my golf SWING instead. Think about WHAT you want to do, not HOW. 60% of the time, it works every time.
Played some of my best golf today. Just played backwards from the pin as you always preach with no hero shots. Who knew golf was so easy 🤣 Cheers Playa

Looking at some Tacomo irons and was between the 201s and the 301s. This video says 'pick the 201s. Get rid of the ego.' Cause there's always days like this.
