  • This is form a 1979 promotional LaserDisc that I found it is for 1980 model year Buick's.
In 1978 GM contracted with Pioneer and MCA/DiscoVision to put the Pioneer PR-7800 LaserDisc player into its dealerships, the discs where to be used for demonstrations as in this disc or for training purposes.
Now in the early days of laserDisc manufacture there was a very high failure rate, sometimes as high as 85% during the mastering/pressing process, so that left a lot of sides of discs that where unusable. Well these where used to fill the blank side of a disc, the "dead" side was then coated with a special plastic that was clear to the human eye, but it would not reflect the laser beam, thus the side would not play. Well the coating can be removed with rubbing alcohol, which is what I did.
These reject discs will ONLY play on the older style of laserDisc player that uses a laser tube

front cornering lamps on Regals were actually quite rare but looked very classy on these cars - I remember admiring these cars when they were new in the Buick showrooms.

I remember when these cars were a common sight on the roads, and I always liked them. My friend from work in the early 2000s still had an 80 Buick Regal with the 4.3L V8. It needed some repairs so I offered to fix it. I drove it, and I was surprised that it didn't have better power for a V8. I still liked the car though. The model to get is the Regal Limited with the loose pillow velour interior!

Y'all might think I'm making this up but...... I owned one just like that tan& royal blue 1980 Buick Regal with a Pontiac made 4.9 liter v8 engine . IT was my 1st car when I was 16 years old . My aunt sold it to me for 500 dollars .
I remember that it would guzzle down gas but when I owned it , gas was around .99 cents a gallon in 2001 . I was proud to own it but I finally sold it to a irresponsible friend two years later when I moved to Amarillo, Texas the "friend" junked it cause he couldn't fix the carburetor

I had a limited coupe with the 3.8 in high school. The carb was a nightmare...electric choke never worked properly and it was hard to start in cold weather.

My mom had a 1980 Buick Regal Limited with the 3.8 as well from June of 1985 until August of 1988. It was a bait and switch deal from a local car dealership (she was originally set to buy a 1979 Jeep Wagoneer in spotless condition, but the dealership substituted the Buick Regal for it at the last minute) and was one of the worst vehicles she ever owned. She constantly had issues with its electrical system, catalytic converter, pollution control system, and carburetor despite the fact that it only had 36,000 miles on it.

Don't care for the blue and white look, but it was a nice looking car for it's day.

I know some people weren't too keen on these cars, but I always thought they were nice to look at, especially it's sister, the Cutlass. I think the Cutlass should have been offered a Turbo, too, and both cars marketed as sports and/or luxury coupes.
Any videos on the Century, especially the Sport?

They did not offer the Cutlass with turbo power because at the time, the GM divisions were still offering Buick engines in Buicks, Oldsmobile engines in Oldsmobiles, etc. This was about to change very soon though. The 3.8 liter turbo V6 was a Buick engine. The only other turbocharged engine offered by GM at the time was the Pontiac turbo 301 V8 (4.9 liters), which was offered in the Pontiac Trans Am. Its sister car, the Camaro, did not get this engine as an option. However it had a better option in 1980 - it had the larger 350 cu in V8, so in that sense it was a more powerful car than non-turbocharged Trans Ams of the same model year. I believe in the Cutlass of this time period, you could get a V6, the 260 V8, or the 350 V8.

I wonder why they didn't show that one part of the frame that always rots out behind the back wheel. LOL

The Regal and any other G-body cars I have owned need or needed a 305 v8 minimum- those v-6 engines really were a disapointment- they were WAY underpowered and not very dependable. BUT HEY!! They looked GREAT!!!- Any of you out there who have a G- body as a project, do the car justice by putting in a v-8. The last G-body I owned had a v8 305 and was great!!!

my first car was an 81 lemans I inherited from the old man. had around 500 000kms on it, and the v6 was replaced as far back as I can remember. had a 350 with a 2bbl on it, but it went fast enough. I later wrecked it trying to put t tops in, and scrapped it. started over with a 78 malibu, which 8 still own. 3 spd out of an Iraqi taxi, a new 350. glad I kept this rusty car for 23 years lol
