- Metallica perform "The Memory Remains" with Marianne Faithfull. Metallica originally recorded the song for their 1997 album "Reload". This version was recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 7th, 2011 (the second of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).
I wonder if she had any idea that her simple part in this song would be everyone's favorite part
Shallex
Well the tune she sings amazing, her voice is what people don't like. I've grown to like it though
I've never heard anyone hate her part
Same here. Her voice sounds so fucking creepy in this song. I'm not even that much of a Metallica fan (there isn't one album by them besides S&M that I can bring myself to listen to all the way through). Without her vocal part, this song is pretty much just a generic sounding Metallica song, not bad, but not really that good either. Just wish they would have had her join during the S&M show instead of having the crowd sing her part.
I think it is an important of the story the song tells.
Ya I hate that part honestly. I won’t say it ruins the song cause it’s a great song. But it would be much better without that nonsense
I've always loved her vocal. It's melodic but also sounds haunting. Love it!!!
Yes, she's always had a beautiful voice. Such a good soul she is ☺☺☺
Metallica makes The Memory Remains great, Marianne Faithfull makes it amazing
That’s one cool Mamma.
This song becomes something else entirely in a live concert!
You could totally tell she was enjoying herself up there! Awesome.
Metallica introduced me to Marianne's music. This is amazing!
This is one of the best non-professional Metallica live recordings I've ever seen. Everybody is having SO much fun!!
Metal extremist - "Meh, Load and Reload aren't metal. Only pussies like those albuns bruh"
James - "Fortune, fame
Mirror vain
Gone insane
But the..."
Metal extremist - "MEMORY REMAAAAAAAINS!!!!"
de Sales so fucking what if it is not metal
Those types of Metallica fans are morons anyway
Who noticed around 4:03 Marianne Faithfull looks at Kirk with face which says: "What the hell?! This crowd is fucking awesome! You're great guys! "
The thing is that she says "I sing dada-da-daa but they keep going ho-oooo-o-o" hahaha! But still awesome
Marianne seems to love Kirk
Who doesn't love Kirk?
The other way around
I keep watching this and I can’t believe how all their faces are lit up like kids on Christmas morning. They are all enjoying it so much.
love this video, specially the end, when they stop playing and get all around her. They all just seens to be really happy, big smiles. have a good life my friends
Sometimes, musicians do more for us with one song than what anyone else ever could do with all their efforts.
Idiots take
I bet Marianne was amazed at how powerful her part of the song really was.
this band will never die , respect
i listen to this when everymorning , when am on my way to the school or to work energie + 1000
Every time I need a true smile with amazing music - I put this video on.
I didn't replay Marianne's part 500 times, you did.
Love her, love Metallica!
this grandma was hotter than hell in her youth
She was Mick Jagger's missus for a few years.
Yes she was 🤘
She was a Mick Jagger's girlfriend...
She still is...A Hot Grandma!!🔥
Marianne rocks. Happy Birthday girl. XX
Simply iconic every time I watch.
That’s so freaking awesome. I wish I was there dude!
Great woman, great band and a fucking great song!
I love this fuckin video Metallica whit Mariane Faithfull! Heavy as shit!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL I thought James did the "da dadada da da da" part...
Nah lol just listen to it you can hear the differences that's why on all the live shows kirk plays this part to sound like it which I like more
No he didn't on the single or the studio album. My best friend from De Land fla told me about Maryanne Faithful featuring on a song on the album before the release of the track as a single. I brought I think all I could that were sold in Australia.
@@Bendova215 the guitar lead is there in the studio version too
Me too
I thought it was Kirk lol
I think this is the only song they have with a female vocal lol...
...And then Lady Gaga happened
Demon Rantz but this Marianne was on an album...
Smoke YaSs What the fuck are you going on about?
AgentOfOblivion epica
Enter sandmann with Girl :D
это соло Марианны можно петь бесконечно) шикарная композиция
What'd you use to record this??? This is freaking AMAZING quality!
that ending though!!! wow. reminded me of hey jude :)
Except Hey Jude sucks, it's just so BORING...The Memory Remains is infinitely better due to the fact that it predicts Axl Rose's future without fail, which is entertainment in itself
Thanks for the share.
"The Tempo Remains Fast" Thanks Lars for you Rush Speed in this Live Version ✈️ b😵💫🤕
Great,Marianne i love You
Marianne Faithfull may have just cemented herself as the coolest chick of all time!! Props to you "M'lady"!
She was one of the original rock chicks...dated Mick Jagger, did the sex n drugs n rock n roll trip as hard as the boys, lost it all, got it back!
Believe me, I'm sure Metallica felt like they were the young kids on stage at that point in the presence of a legend
2:05 - 2:09 kirk "how do i move away from her? wait for it...wait for it...NOW!" LOL!
Marianne's voice in this song is gold
First time I heard the song, I din't even realize it was a woman singing. That part does have a bit of an off, eerie feel to it. I love it!
Marianne had quite a sweet voice in the 60s, but years of hard living and drug use meant she ended up with a raspy, slightly off-key voice
Not a bad thing at all...her quavering vibrato adds to the sad & sinister vibe of the song
Check out her solo albums, they're great!
That crowd rules as well. And Metallica rules,of course.
Obviously the coolest part of this video is seeing Marianne rock out with them but can we go over how James looks like he literally has 0% body fat?
SUPERB!
wow james looks really fucking young, guy looks great maybe there is something to that whole sobriety thing... I'll never know though.
Jathan Taylor
He looked young until 2013. Although it's been 6 years since you wrote that so it makes sense he aged lol
Imagine if they extended this song to 17-18 minutes like they did for Seek and Destroy during the Black Album tour.
got goose bumps
Metallica fans in 1997- "Man this sucks! What the hell is this?! I would rather listen to Megadeth now!"
Metallica fans in 2011- "Daaa daa da da daa daa daaaaaa da da daa da daaaaaa!"
na na naaaah.....goosebumps
OMG I LOVE YOU JAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Emocionante...................
Es hermoso. Espectacular
Amo O Metallica e a Marianne
I would go to battle to this song!
what happened to “say yes” “at least just say hello, say yes” “at least say hello” at the end of the song?
0:08 It would be amazing if everyone shouted "but the gayest is James"
OK so that's why in all the live versions kirk always plays that part but on the CD ms faithful sings it cool
I used to think the "Na na na" part was unnecessary and weird but then I found out who sings it
have to say when they are live doing this song its shitty without marianne
The "though the never" was pretty good
It's an awesome live song, with the crowd doing the Marianne vocal part
¿Can you feel the love, Marianne?!!!
lml lalalala lalala lalalalala !!!!!!! I love Met
is that roman reign in the thumbail?
Is she the one do the part at the album.???
Who says that OLD people can't ROCK?
Marianne
This is kind of adorable.
Wow... Roman Reigns in Metallica!?😎🔥
Lalala lalala lala lala
She makes the song what IT REALLY IS. All my respect to this lady.
Mauricio Albano and idiot James laugh
I found a version without her, so much better imo 😅
@@SaucisseMerguez in my opinion the song doesn't sound good without her
I just love how much Marianne is enjoying the audience feedback, you can see on her face she's having a blast!
holy shit its crazey how natural Marianne Faithful looks up their with Metallica. she even seems enjoy the music. this is the best
she's a rocker from way back. I think she makes this song
She's in her natural spot...performing and up on stage with music icons ☺😀
WTF? *They* should be on their knees worshipping *her.* Do you even know who she is? She is a Rock Goddess. She was shooting up with The Rolling Stones, when these guys were still peeing the bed.
@@AFloridaSon wtf
Poor Ladies..
The Nice Guys Know.
You can see her turn her head at one point and looks at kirk and goes "omg" when the crowd is singing XD
@Aaron Morgan Man, Kirk looks so Pretty here
And Kirk is like “I know, right?” This was such an historical moment!!
Big respect for Marianne Faithful and kudos to Metallica. Her part in the song is utter Genius. And look at her enjoying every second of it.
What an AMAZING moment at 3:55. That look between Marianne and Kirk says so much.
Kirk's always had a sweet smile
@@tombstoneharrystudios584 It's super genuine.
That's because... Kirk is g...
Great to see Maryanne Faithful still out there performing. She's like the female Keith Richards, probably taken every drug known to man and come through on the other side. It's sad that she's largely unknown to the younger generation, but she's had a hand in some pretty significant moments in rock history and sang with most of the all-time greats from the Stones to Pink Floyd and countless others. Awesome performer.
Oh yeah Maryanne has admitted to doing some hard drugs in they 70's. Well she did date Mick Jagger so it really speaks volumes. Been in the company of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards back in the 70's you'd do all the gear that you could get access to.
Women were always submissive to men when it came to drugs in that time in history. Janis Joplin was on the hard gear. She gave it up but then had the pinch to try some again. Her trying the too potent dose she had last, was what killed her, sadly. We're pretty lucky to still have Maryanne with us mortals.
Don't know if you were aware of this but she developed breast cancer. She kicked the breast cancer, thankfully.
I sob like a baby at the end-- you can feel Marianne feeding off of the audience and feeling the intensity, the band quieting down and transforming a rocking anthem into a primal, religious chant. Like James says at the end, "do you feel the love?" That's what makes this footage so powerful. It captures pure (positive) feeling. Not something common these days.
🙋♀️SO DID I!!!❤❤❤👊👊👊
I didn't watch it to the end before saying my part. Yes I feel the love. Because this rocks. ❤🤘🏻🖤
4:44 Haha James had to intervene otherwise the na na's would have gone on all night. Love it.
Marianne Faithful is phenomenal. Having her sing her part to a live audience is truly incredible. This concert will truly be remembered in rock history. Kudos to Metallica for making her a part of the live performance. This is one greatest songs ever written by Metallica, it brought tears to my eyes and made me reminiscent of the first I heard it.
She was so adorable, how she clung to Rob, when she came on one of the first things she said was "Where's Robert?" It was so cute. This made a great memory.
Her voice is only one they coulda used. Love her. 🤘🏻
Ever see marianne in her younger days? Drop dead gorgeous. Check it out.
+nameless76 mozwhaz holy shit
Did u check her out back in the day?
Ikr. Smokin hot. Some of the footage I saw she was 18 or so and just beautiful.
Yup she was bangin' hot.
Yes she was a gorgeous young woman. I swear I should have been born in my parents generation.
01:54 the cutest thing I've ever seen.
That outro is one of the most sweetest moments in Rock'n Roll history.
say yes, at least say hello
I freaking love Marianne's voice
If James hadn't stepped in, I don't think she would've ever gotten off that stage! 😆❤️🤘🏼
Same
😂😂😂😂
I felt so disrespectful when I realized she sang that part and not James doing a stupid nerdy sounding voice 👀🤘🏻
She is absolutely beautiful, back then & right now.
So fucking cool they got Marianne faithfull to come and sing everyone's favorite part
im 16 years old and discovered Marianne Faithfull a few years ago. I just cant get enough of her, shes incredible. Ive researched her backstory and I did a school presentation on her in the topic of Sexism in rock n roll. Im glad that a band like Metallica still includes her in the scene because she deserves to be known!!
4:45 I thought James was gonna kiss her
it would have been sweet :D
Marianne is badass 💟
Indeed she is a legend
Lars is gay, Kirk is gay, Robert's gay but the gayest is Jamesss
Oh man what a special moment. I would have drowned her out myself if I had been there!
Thanks, Marianne! Glad she made it through COVID!
da da da da da da da da da da da da da
If You've been to a 'tallica concert and didn't get the chills when you sang this...
Well, shame on you, you unsensitive monster!
They played this at my first Metallica concert and for sure I joined in when it was time for the audience to sing. That was over 21 years ago but now I can almost match her singing her input to the song. I'd sure loan my voice on stage to Metallica as a female voice for it to be performed.
Love it. James ended the audience participation at the perfect time.
Wow she's so taken away at how the Metallica fans keep singing it. I love it
I had no idea this was someone’s unaltered vocals before tonight, let alone Marianne Faithfull. I’d just never googled it before. Absolutely blown away. I thought it was a heavily compressed male’s voice all this time.
I thought James had helium and started singing
When did Roman Reigns join Metallica? 🤘🤘
She really makes the song something even more special
Imagine whole crowd singing your simple line in Metallica song, that's a goal!
Marianne is awesome!
She's beautiful and always will be such a star. She sadly was diagnosed with breast cancer but she kicked it's ass!!
@@rosiewhitfield123 She kicked breast cancer's ass? That's amazing!
Sadly, cancer always has a tendency to get back when you least expect it.
@@theevildrummingsithlord1492 yeah she did kick Cancers ass. Sure is amazing. Oh absolutely right...as I had a cousin in remission but 9 years later his cancer returned with a vengeance. He passed away in October of 2000 if I remember correctly. It's why I get checked out...Cancer is an issue in my gene pool.
@@rosiewhitfield123 I'm sorry for your loss. Does it terrify you that cancer is in your gene pool?

THANK YOU Tallica!!! Marianne sooo deserves to be on stage and be loved once more!
chills the whole time...best band ever!!!!
