名作「アウトラン」の続編。ニューヨークからロサンゼルスまでのアメリカ大陸横断が舞台となっている。前作との最大の相違点としては、コースの分岐点が無くなり、タイトル通りターボが使用可能になったこと、パワーアップパーツの購入、ライバル車の登場、けたたましいサイレンが印象的なパトカーの妨害などがある。また、レースとしての要素が高くなっており、白いライバル車との勝負に負けてしまうと、助手席の彼女がライバル車の方に移るという演出がある。BGMはロック色が濃くなり賛否両論を呼んだが、「Rush a difficulty」はセガ体感ゲーム名曲の１つに挙げられる。オーバーヒート時以外は何度でもターボの使用が可能。全16ステージで4エリア。

Turbo Out Run is the first arcade-based sequel to the legendary 1986 original. It eschews the forked-road, variable route gameplay of it's illustrious predecessor and instead opts for a set route point-to-point race across America. There are several new game-play additions, however, which help to differentiate 'Turbo Out Run' from the original.
Firstly, there's the 'Turbo' of the game's title; a turbo boost that greatly increases the car's speed when engaged. It must be used sparingly, however, as overuse will cause the engine to overheat, rendering the turbo useless until such time as the engine has cooled (as indicated by an on-screen 'Overheat' meter).
Weather conditions are another new feature, with both snow and rain having an adverse effect on driving conditions and car handling. Road surfaces also vary greatly in quality, with sand, oil, speed bumps, safety barriers, standing water and other debris all adding to the challenge.
The final new addition is the ability to upgrade the player's car. This is possible upon completion of every four of the game's sixteen stages. Available power-ups are an improved turbo boost, a more powerful engine, or better gripping tires.

高校時代に毎日１クレだけやって帰るのが楽しみでしたね。
ターボアウトランでＦ４０を知って、社会人になってホンモノのＦ４０を見た時は絶叫モンでした。
パーツセレクト画面でブレーキを踏みながらとかギアをハイに入れながらアクセル踏んで選択するとミニクーパーとか出てくる隠し技があったはずです。
他のアウトランシリーズに比べて人気ないみたいだけど自分は好きでした。BGMも。
当時、岡山のゲーセンに電話して情報もらいました！AKD氏によると、まずエンジン、ターボ、ハイグリップタイヤの順番でした！
また、ギアガチャが出来ないからハンドルこじりを教えてもらいました！ハンドルを常に？左右こじる事で後輪から煙が出る状態で走るのですが、激ムズだったので出来ませんでした！
情報が嘘かホントか知りませんが、自分的にタイヤ、エンジン、ターボだと8分切りはムズカシイと思いました。
パトカーにぶつけてクラッシュさせるとスッキリするんだよな
西海岸的陽気から始まって、オープンカーで大雨喰らった直後に吹雪の中をノーマルタイヤで走る。ドライバーも同乗者もドMじゃないか！（歓喜）

昔アーケードで全クリしましたね～。当時誰もクリア出来る人は居なく優越感に浸ってました。またやりたいなぁ～。
いつも第７ステージで時間切れでゲームオーバーでした。
3ＤＳ版でタイム設定を甘くして漸くクリアーしました。

ルートによって速度を出しやすい所があるので悪路を避ける事が大事ですよ。ターボの使い分けも大事ですが後半のクランクの標識が出たら特に注意すると良いですよ✴
当時ターボアウトランのコース案内のビデオがある筈ですので一度目を通してみては如何でしょうか？ノーマルモードでも必ずクリア出来ますよ👍

結局当時リアルにこのゲーム筐体を見ることはありませんでした。地方や田舎はそんなもんかなー。
当時の地元のゲーセンではまだアウトランが現役でしたからね。(笑)
でもサントラは相当聴きまくってました。
ラッシュアディフィカルティーは、ほんといまだに聴きます。このゲームプレイではフルコーラス行かないうちにステージクリアなんですね。(笑)・・・これからって一番聴きどころなのに！(笑)
マニュアルモード、スタートはガチャシフト＋ターボ加速、全場面の直線をギアガチャ＋ハンドル全開切りで敵車を避けながら進む方が速いという謎ゲー。
2回連続でプレイすると左腕がプルプルするほどハンドルを切り続けて遊んでました。
当時、ノーミスで走って8分10秒が一杯だったのに事故って7分台が出た時にこの事が発覚して大変でした。
何がってハンドルのセンサー（ボリューム抵抗）がすぐ壊れるんだｗ
Almost 60 million. Incredible, even racing a modified AWD Ferrari F40 in Forza Horizon 4 on any track is great.

As a huge fan of the original I couldn't take to this Turbo version. Looking back it's more like a version Chase HQ, way too much tumble weeds and BS on the roads and virtual no real crashes.
There are usually plenty of big crashes in Turbo Outrun, this video just shows a near-perfect run. But I agree about all the stuff on the roads.
The crashes were pretty intense and very dynamic, while in the original Outrun it would always flip over the same way.

lol, If this speed was for real, the car would be doing about 600 mph. Very cool game though.
On the flip side, it was the fastest production car of the 80s. With a twin-turbo V8, the F40 was the first car to hit 200MPH. If they're boosting the turbos and upgrading the engine like we see here, it's going beyond even that and behaving more like the F40 Le Mans spec...
Porsche can even race with a Boeing 737 lol

It's possible. The Porsche you see passing by will be coloured red, suggesting it's you crying in your car.
