    This is so true. As someone who learned peekaboo Tyson style. A lot of people just mimicking and imitate the set patterns without thinking how to use it functionally. The most dangerous boxers are ones who didn’t learn peekaboo for the flash but actually use it sparingly to dodge and counter, not imitate Tyson stance bob and weave the whole time.

      @@rudolfogar1886 wrong it was there before Cus as well. I’m talking people who specifically are using it copying Mike Tyson. If it’s really functional you won’t just train the same sequence as Mike Tyson might do in one of his interviews and training videos. Boxers who really have learned peek a boo use it like any other defensive technique. Not like a choreographed sequence.

    Well, the full peekaboo style included what is referred to as spring, essentially changing angles and position relative to your opponent.. Tyson didn't just go in forward
    And part of cus' method, was explosive combos, which get executed when youve done the spring
    Peekaboo ala Tyson was more than just high hands, low body.. it wasn't just a type of guard, it also had alot of psychology drilled into it, in short, it's essence was all about surprising your opponent

    • @mikea6710
      @mikea6710 Рік тому +4

      But I definitely agree with mastering the basics first, in fact (at least the way I see it) as cus D'Amato style is more of a philosophy vs a method/guard style that any dummy hand picks as their style of the week, the basic front stance is what cus' fighters did do, when they fighting on the outside, not utilising the peekaboo, which is all close-mid range
      We all understand some joe young wants to try peekaboo one day, and then drop it like it's "not for them" imo cus' taught peekaboo style is not about that.. there were fighters under his stable that did peekaboo, but look "conventional" like Edwin Rosario, Wilfred benitez, those of which you will not describe as peekaboo, but you definitely see the 'philosophy' and method in those fighters sometimes

    • @jasonmelvin9102
      @jasonmelvin9102 Рік тому +3

      Exactly, theres a lot to it and its pretty advanced. There's so many prerequisite skills to master before even trying to fight with the style. Tyson could do it bcs as we know now he was an amazing boxer in many ways. Most people aren't that though. Hence just start with the basics and let yourself grow into a style naturally.

    If you wanna do Mike Tyson peekaboo style he said on an interview that you need to be square facing your opponent instead on on an angle so you can move left and right faster instead of forward an backwards. Peakaboo style is a form of brawling which means the user most of the type pressures forward so there’s really no need to keep that back foot, just have good balance.

    The biggest misconception about Tyson's style is that it revolves around a squared up stance. The reality is that his stance is a regular boxing stance that would appear to change because of how he would move in relationship to his opponent. He would lateral shift deep towards their backhand, making it appear that him and his opponent are now in a "square" stance, leaving them BOTH open for attack. This suits Tyson because of his handspeed and other advantages. There is no such thing as "peekaboo" style boxing. Cus NEVER called it that, the media did. Good boxing is good boxing, period. The only reason it looked the way it did is because Cus's fighters happened to be so good that they could face opponents even if they were at a size disadvantage. This led to Cus's students relying on their elusiveness to fight, which made it look a certain way that the media would later call "peakaboo." Make no mistake, this style of boxing has nothing whatsoever to do with relying on what you saw Tyson do, it works for all body types and all matchups.

    It even explains in the anime that this style of fighting requires immense lower body strength and mobility. They even touched on the fact that ippo was working on a boat growing up and this vastly increased his balance and natural strength in general half of the anime is about how hard he has to train people want to learn this style don't understand that it's 90 percent lower body along with perfect control of rotation of hips. It's one of the most demanding fighting styles even in the anime they reference the fact that he should not use it repeatedly though a fight because it's a double edge sword you use momentum to increase power but if you get caught you have your entire body weight being forced into a counter and it's likely going to knock you out.

    The reason why a lot of people don’t get on with the peekaboo style is because it’s designed for a very small niche of boxers. It’s designed for short but heavy boxers as they are more likely to face taller opponents. This means that when ducking low your bringing your opponents punches downwards opening up the jaw. It also means that you can get in underneath your opponent and that your centre of mass is lowered. Most boxers are very lean and therefore don’t have the structure tall meaning they don’t have the ability to get low or fat meaning they don’t have the speed necessary for peekaboo

    Yes very true it takes a whole bunch of stamina, core strength, quad strength shoulder strength, hip rotation, footwork, head movement, heart, patience, skill and consistency to perform the Cus D'Amato peekaboo stance down to a T otherwise if performed correctly without enough training you will feel like you're running a marathon

    For reference, the peekaboo is basically constantly switching stances to apply pressure. Meaning you should have some experience with both orthodox and southpaw stances and the awareness of when to bring your yoursef away from the midline.
    It's so square you need some deep stamina to keep it up and even after that you need to have the power to back up the invasion of the in range. Physiological intimidation is also a huge factor in helping you corner your opponent.
    In conclusion, Tyson was a monster that fit the style to a T, he didnt need to switch out of it because of his unique advantages, it just worked.

    This is great advice. People are so eager to copy, but it's not good for you. Don't do what worked for Tyson, do what works for you. For example, Patterson and Tyson both used peekaboo to incredible effect, but their styles still varied a lot. Because they knew what worked for them. Find what works for you, don't just copy.

      Before attempting to learn Hitman style, I must give you a warning. Himan style leaves your left wide open. You sacrifice your defense for offense. Is it a risk you want to take?

    The peekaboo style isn’t a bad form, you just have to practice and you practice for every style/form to perfect it. It never always is easy nor effective at first.

  • @СергейЗейтулаев

    Sometimes I think Tyson was using peekaboo just to find a way to handle his constant nervousness and striking energy. When his opponents didn't last long enough for him to use it completely. Well, being serious, peekaboo is advanced thing.

    The peak-a-boo style only works against fighting taller opponents with longer reach, Via why mike Tyson had a short reach for heavyweight and not as tall as a heavyweight, peak-a-boo helps a lot of shorter fighter and I’ve used it before and it works great for me, I do have to say don’t use it against someone similar height as you, Mike Tyson 5”10 use it against fighter that were between 6”3-6”6 with longer reach, tyson is also heavyweight champion with that style

    • @judelang4854
      @judelang4854 Рік тому

      Height isn’t what matters, it’s the reach that does. I’m 5’11 but i have short arms and often get out ranged by people shorter than me. Peekaboo was a game changer for me, even against shorter sparring partners. My favourite people to spar are the really tall and lanky ones though thats definitely where the style shines the most.
