@@rohang3105 Waldner in his prime was pure talent and magic, no one can compare with him. But overall, Timo is far a better player, mostly for his regularity at top level. Is like Ronaldinho and Messi.
He could've retired years ago and live an easy life. Instead, he keeps going because he loves this sport so much. A prime role model and a great table tennis ambassador.

When Boll met Ma Long in Tokyo, I know the result of their match is nearly certain. But as a Chinese, I was even hoping Boll can beats Ma in at least one game. And Boll really did it. 40 years old, can still beat the world champion.

No one in table tennis history has aged as well as Timo. Congrats, champion.
Timo is really strong in the mental game. Dimitri is in my opinions faster and hits harder, especially backhand technically he should win, but the longer the game lasts and the more there is pressure, Timo starts to come out on the top, he never loses his touch.
This comes down to calm nerves under pressure, which comes from experience and that is something Timo has a bucketfull.
How does Timo control these counter topspins so well? Absolutely insane! He almost made no unforced errors and somehow always put the ball back onto the table with a lot of topspin. Haven't seen players win so many points with spinny shots since the plastic balls were released.
I noticed his counter topspins improved a lot with new Primorac Carbon blade. This blade gives him effortless, confident and consistance counters.
YEARS of experience, don't know if you noticed it in his age or not yet...

It is a joy to see these two play. Timo and Dimitij must have met dozens of times in national and international tournaments, both as opponents and friends, especially when they play in the national team.
I don't think they have many surprises left for each other and you can definitely tell in this match that they know what each other is playing for and how they try to make their points.
Of course Boll is a force of nature, even now in his fourties he keeps winning big tournaments, but still this was a really special match.

I‘m new to TT, started to play a year ago. I watched hundreds of hours of film. Waldner is much more accomplished world wide, World Champion and Gold medal 🥇. Timo may be most consistent European player ever! I love this sport! Regards from 🇩🇪

40 years old and Boll is still best European player, no more word need to say. In the 2nd set, Dima got 2 net points and one edge point, but he still lose that game, he just can blame himself for having a lot of unforced error in this match.

When Timo forces Dima to switch from backhand to forehand in the very same rally, he wins the point 99,99% of the time. Dima's defensive footwork is slower to activate on his forehand side, leading him often to throw forehand topspins hoping on one leg.
Good observation. I think the only way to beat Boll is ending the point quickly and playing on his backhand. The longer the rally, the higher the chances Boll wins.
Yeah, the oen leg hop technique seems like a crazy technique not seen among pros
@@wildcard7649 IDK 'bout that, dude! Timo's BH is very heavy and precise close to the table and it is even more lethal far out. Dima puts more speed and less spin in his attacks. Dima's strategy was to hit he ball early after the bounce with his backhand and find angles. But when you are that BH oriented, those angles better be sharp.
@@alexismamadou2193 Go through this game and count Bolls errors and winners. You will find that the majority of his winners come from his forehand and the majority of his errors from the backhand.
@@wildcard7649 That' would be a clue in spotting one's weaker stroke. The FH/BH distribution in the coverage of the table is a greater tell, I would argue. Dima is very good at sliding to his right side to open up the short game with a BH in the diagonal. It worked for a while until Timo's BH exposed Dima's coverage down the line. Timo's BH is untargetable.

It appears that Timo has a special gift, like a one-in-a-billion hand-eye-coordination intelligence, or a unique brain, that essentially makes it impossible for the entire European population to replace him for decades. He is a very consistent player. They should study his brain.

Во второй партии что-то пошло не так, прямо чувствовалось. Вообще во время просмотра матча возникло чувство, которое очень ёмко выразил сам Дима Овчаров в третьем сете при 4-3 после очередной проваленной скидки : "Я х*ею бл**ь с этого" =) . Боль молодец, как плохо он играл в лиге и как заиграл на этом евро - прям помолодел и вновь забегал!

Absolutely insane to watch this now. Boll drops only one set against Dima, who then wins bronze a few weeks later, while Boll is eliminated early.
To be fair, Boll did injure himself before the olympics
For this tournament, my favorite is Dima, since he already won one international title & in a very good shape after Russian League. But at this final, he is totally dominated by Timo. I guess changing blade work perfectly for Timo, his FH is faster, has more power & still maintaining topspin. I hope Timo can deliver surprise in individual Olympic match, secure no less than a Silver. FZD is too tough to beat though.

@@scotary7936 Dignics 09c is quite hard and it makes these rubbers slow in passive play and slow gears, the tamca 5000 plus hinoki (being a soft wood) match perfectly because it gives the punch you loose due to the hardness.

@@tillnetthofel8595 , meanwhile China is definitely progressing. Fan Zhendong, Zhou Qihao and Wang Chuqin are all visibly still improving. Ma Long has experience but he is slower to reach the extreme forehand, and is under severe pressure.

Das erinnert mich an die olympischen Spiele 2008, als Jörgen Persson mit 42 Jahren Vladimir Samsonov und Zoran Primorac ausschaltete und damit sensationell das Halbfinale erreichte. Leider reichte es dann am Ende "nur" zu Platz 4.

Timo Boll is by far the greatest TT player from Europe of all time. Change my mind (yes, I'm including Waldner in there). Competition now vs 25 years ago is beyond comparison.
What competition?Ovtcharov?He's a modern day Mazunov,a backhand and nothing else.Typical German workhorse player who has to reach his late 20's to stop losing to veterans like Samsonov.He will reach his peak at 50 yo.

All of them should be ashamed....Timo at 40 still plays a more consistent game than all of them as well as most Chinese players. A master at the spinny high loops deep on the opponents side and consistent with it. Whatever you throw at him it is coming back straight at you. Very difficult to play against. Well done Timo!!!

What blade is Timo using? Doesn’t look anything like the TB-ALC.. Also the handle look thicker than most blades by butterfly
