    Don't forget with the double roller chain you have to crush the oil slinger down slightly or it will hit the timing cover it is annotated in the ford 289 rebuild manuals

      I will definitely do that at the next opportunity. This was one of my first videos and I'm more thoughtful now of things like that.

    Do you need a oil slinger

    if i took the harmonic balancer off before setting tdc, how would i go about lining everything back up? would i just reinstall the balancer?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  2 роки тому +2

      The balancer only goes on one way because it's keyed. As far as lining up the timing chain, if you need to rotate the crank, you could just slip the balancer on just enough to turn it by hand to TDC. Then you can just pull it off by hand if that makes sense. Pull the spark plugs out so there isn't any compression to fight.

    How long till fuel pump eccentric started spinning on the cam cause the pin was to short ?

      He used the short pin, noticed that too.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  2 роки тому +1

      You guys know that once you tighten the camshaft bolt, it sucks the cam into the thrust plate and thus puts the pin in the fuel pump ecentric further. This engine has been running great for over 2 years now 👍

      @@AlfsMustangGarage there are 2 pin sizes and it looks like you used the short pin on accident. Either way, glad it worked out.

    Does that two piece fuel pump eccentric ever wear to the point it needs replaced?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  Рік тому +1

      This car actually has a 1 piece and I would imagine eventually it would wear even though I've yet to see one. The arm of the fuel pump is a softer metal so that is made to wear before the eccentric.

      @@AlfsMustangGarage The one piece is much better for racing applications.

      Well if you're building an engine for racing or high performance, you're probably going to eliminate the mechanical fuel pump and go electric.
