When you think about they actually have a lot in common. Both of them never got to have normal childhoods as they had huge responsibilities put on their shoulders as kids. When there together they don't have to be the Senator or chosen they could just be themselves. And be as childish and selfish as they want.

Padmé was immediately physically attracted to Anakin when she saw him again. He had grown into a very handsome young man and once she recognized he was little Ani she probably felt awkward and why she said “you’ll always be that little boy I knew on tatooine”. She said that to put her feelings/ hormones back in check and for him too for calling her beautiful so openly. Then in the bedroom when he’s staring down at her and she says “please don’t look at me that way it makes me uncomfortable”. What was making her uncomfortable was her attraction to him. Let’s face it he was HOT. It has to feel so weird to be suddenly so attracted to the little kid you once helped babysit so to speak 😂

I agree with this, but I also think that Anakin being kind of awkward and unhinged perhaps came off as a feature rather than a bug to Padme, because she grew up around a bunch of smooth-talking people who always wore masks. I can imagine that after all of that someone as awkwardly straightforward with his feelings as Anakin would feel simultaneously safe and exciting to her. And because she won't or can't admit to her own strong feelings, him doing all the work means that she can live vicariously through him. Remember, Padme is in a position where she has to observe ploys to destroy her home planet with an impassive face and carefully think before saying anything, or pretend to be her own handmaiden for days, can you imagine how much she'd LOVE to be able to just go AHSFJDSAFHAFJAK THOSE BASTARDS I HATE THEM the way Anakin consistently does.

@@SpFlash1523 I hope people understand the real meaning behind this cliche line. Bad guy means he's got balls to defy the rules and the order of the world, which makes him a strong and capable man (exactly what Anakin did, lul). Women look for a man who can assure the protection, support and the future for her children. But, side note, bad guys usually don't end up well... apparently because they go against the rules/laws and the side that defends these rules is always bigger than our brave hero, therefore he stands no chance. So it kinda crosses out the previous point of bad guy being a great candidate. So yeah, in the end, while the bad guys are highly attractive, in a distance a wise woman will prefer a good guy. Or just get a baby from a bad guy but raise the kid alone or with the good guy. Which actually happened to Padme and her children who were both raised by good people eventually. Ofc I generalise a lot here, I hope I don't need to point it out hard.

The actress who potrayed Padmé,Natalie Portman, said Anakin allows Padmé to be less serious about herself and have fun as evident in their lighthearted, silly, playful, fun moments/scenes in Attack of the Clones like when Anakin pretends to be hurt to trick her as a gotcha moment after he tries to balance on some animal in a field on Naboo, causing Padmé to run to him in concern, and she realizes he pranked her when she turns him around to make sure he's okay, which leads them to playfully rolling around giggling like kids, then stopping in unresolved romantic and/or sexual tension, implying that he helps her relax or unwind and truly live as she's dedicated her whole life to serving the people and the Republic for a noble cause of a better future for the Galaxy and its inhabitants,1st as a queen rulingher country and people of Naboo, then as a senator. Not only can Padmé be herself with Anakin,Anakin can be himself with Padmé in spite of the masks they had to wear bound to their respective responsibility, jobs, and duties as a former queen turned poltician senator and a former slave turned Jedi padawan who is the Chosen One of the prophecy, later revealed to be conceived by the force as its son.Anakin and Padmé actually have more in common than people would think, assume and believe otherwise.Although they didn't go through the exact same things, they share similar experiences they can relate to,not only sympathize with but truly understand, emphasize with and resonate with. They both lead burdensome lives without childhoods forced to grow up fast with big responsibilities thrust upon them early on in their lives from a very young age.Teenage Padmé was elected to be queen of Naboo,so she likely sacrificed her childhood and teenage years committed to studying and learning how to rule whether it was by choice or not. Then she continues to sacrifice her personal life for duty as a senator.Anakin's life is much worse since he was born into slavery as he was enslaved with his mother by the Hutts, robbed of his childhood working for slave masters like Watto for example for nearly a decade until the age of 9.Anakin sacrifices the life he desires
For all his flaws, some of which are his qualities made into weaknesses,Anakin is so passionate about who and what he loves, fiercely protective of the people he loves, devoted to them and everything and anything he sets his mind too, loyal to a fault.I think he loves easily. When he loves,he loves hard going all in ride or die.So it's highly likely that Padmé saw that in Anakin as someone who'd likely be able to read people and be a good judge of character.Natalie expressed that Padmé was intrigued by the darkness that lurked within Anakin and remarked about there being something about the bad boy.But those qualities of bravery, loyalty, heroicism, passion, loving, protectiveness, steadfastness, and borderline savior complex ultimately led Anakin down the path to the dark side. And his resilience and endurance helped keep him trapped in darkness after his transformation into Vader.People say Anakin clings onto Padmé because of his mommy issues and inability to be detached from others, but Padmé is naturally motherly, probably purposely characterized that way by the creator George Lucas.Like the Jedi Council, people fail to realize, understand, and accept why Anakin is so easily attached when literally all he ever had was his mother, not to mention never really had anything either, forevermore being forced into the Jedi order as the Chosen One with the overwhelming burden of fulfilling the prophecy who only had no choice but to agree just to be freed from slavery. To make matters worse,Jedi Code forbid possessions and attachments which is difficult for someone like Anakin to abide by just like the Jedi doctrine and rules is difficult to follow when Anakin never really had any possessions to begin with and he's always been unable to be free to live however he desired. So antis in the fandom claiming Anakin was jealous of perfect Obiwan who benefits from plot armor and craved power is understandable, acceptable, and valid when he's always been at the bottom of the pyramid as a slave, hence his low self-esteem and self-worth,looked down on nearly everyone he ever encountered at that point despite constantly being told he's the Chosen One especially by the Jedi Council, especially Obiwan (with their high unrealistic unachievable expectations for someone who had his whole life turned upside down to exchange one form of slavery for another) and other padawans who bullied him.Even self-righteous Mary Sue archtype Obiwan as a padawan had the audacity to refer to Anakin as a "low lifeform" before he was forced to honor his late master Qui-Gon Jin's wish to train Anakin, which makes for a bad 1st impression of the character. The Jedi all treated him like an outsider who must be shunned and isolated as if Anakin hadn't been isolated enough in slavery since birth; The Jedi Council never approved of and trusted Anakin because they feared him.Much of Anakin's character and why he was so susceptible to the dark side is due to his traumatic background and upbringing being exposed to the dark side, horrors, and terrors of humanity with slavery, abuse, and mistreatment of himself, his mother, and others who were enslaved. It's proven that your early years of life are when we are the most vulnerable, the most crucial time and stage of life for development.Even after being forced to abandon his mother for Jedi training,Anakin isolated himself so he didn't make friends and break the Jedi Code of forming attachments, trying to oblige and assimilate until he reunited with Padmé "he had a crush on" (borderline in love with) and his mother on the verge of death. But the people he could never let go of was his mother and Padmé,the people he already loved. It's so tragic and heartbreaking that everything Anakin gained he ultimately lost and what he was to gain never came to fruition; His whole life was full of agony, suffering and misery that only ended with his early death.Anakin really needed the Jedi Council's support and guidance at least but only ending up receiving Palpatine's manipulation due to Palpatine's grooming since Anakin's childhood.I went off on a tangent ranting but back to the subject. There's mutual understanding, respect, and admiration for each other.George Lucas had Anakin do all the pursuing and pining, which could come off across as making Padmé unsettled and uncomfortable. The writing of this kinda could be perceived as one-sided,unrequited attraction, but George just relied on Natalie's reactions like her facial expressions (to show Padmé is affected by Anakin's "unwanted" flattery and appraisal that is causing her to unwillingly developed feelings for the forbidden Jedi of great power and responsibility with the weight of the world on his shoulders as the Chosen One who is destined to defeat the sith and bring balance to the force) even subtle changes you have to pay attention for like unsteady breathing patterns.Natalie also said behind the scenes part of the reason Padmé is so attracted to Anakin is for his good looks, so I don't know George wasted time having Padmé tease Anakin about some crush she had on another guy back then named Palo but couldn't write at least one scene in which Padmé stares at him in endeared attraction and adoration,or checks Anakin out at least. There would be no dialogue needed for these scenes considering George sucks at it because the purpose of film is to show, not tell.
Padmé is more reserved, capable of controlling and concealing her emotions considering that's an essential skill to have as a ruler, politician, and leader in the field of government.Padmé is more mature as 24,a young adult 5 years older than Anakin of 19 years who's still a teenager, not even legally an adult yet by the real modern world society standards.Given these facts including Jedi being forbidden to form attachments,it makes sense why Padmé was holding back for most of their scenes in AotC as the voice of reason for their sake and duties to their jobs, not to mention Anakin's as the Chosen One who is essential to the fate of the Galaxy as his actions will change the course and impact the future for everyone.

Watch closely the scene when she meet Obi-Wan in Coruscant, and then recognizes Anakin. This is the beginning when she falls in love with him. She even calls him Ani. She always do.
In Naboo they spent several days, weeks, we don't know with him all day long. Even if Anakin doesn't express like a politician his feeling for her, she can't accept being together because she is committed to her duty as politician, to serve her people. She tells him that after the diner.
But it's in Geonosis facing death that she tells him that she truly, deeply loves him.
The sentence: "I've been dying a little bit each day since you came back into my life." explains the struggles she had in choosing between her duty and her personal happiness. Every day that she denies her own feelings she dies a little more.
On the verge of actual death, she comes to the decision that the price of her self-denial has been too high to bear any longer.

Remember how Padme was the one of all characters there with the LEAST faith in the boy. Yeah, he was cute and kind, but she was rational enough to constantly ask "are we seriously handing our destinies to this kid? Are you guys grown up? What is this circus?" And then when Anakin overcome ALL the difficulties and won the race, she was impressed, and then when he saved HER planet from war, she was impressed and grateful even more! That's also why she shines when she recognizes him in Obi-Wan's padawan, she remembers all what he did, she sees that he didn't fade away (as many talented people do) but, on contrary, grown up, prospering and doing good and he still cares a lot for her (in a VERYYYY obvious way, khmm). But now that he's not an underage boy, but a handsome young man, she can let her feelings go.

I think if they left some of them in there would be more natural chemistry between the characters because you see more than a surface level romance and you realize what Anakin’s feelings are (other than just horny for Padme lol). He came off as more sweet and concerned for Padme’s safety and curious about her earlier life than just creepy. You also learn about Padme’s family, how she grew up and used to help underprivileged aliens, and how her younger sister already had a family but she never did because she was too focused on politics. Padme reveals that she really wanted to get married and start her own family eventually when she was a child. I think one of the main reasons the Jedi failed as peacekeepers wasn’t just because they were hypocrites who got themselves wrapped up too much in politics, it was their poor approach to fear. Fear is something that eventually leads to the dark side and the Jedi did everything they could to avoid that by any means. Such as attachments and the fear of loss. Their methods have shown to involve detaching yourself from these problems and trying to bury them like they never existed. And because the Jedi never provided Anakin with any help to actually deal with his problems, this led to him being manipulated by Palpatine through temptation and led to the rise of the Empire.
This is what I love about Luke’s arc in both the Originals and the Sequels. He comes to learn from his mistakes and muster up the courage to face his fear of failure by confronting Kylo Ren and the First Order. This eventually leads Luke being there for Rey and teaching her that confronting fear is the destiny of the Jedi, a far cry from they way Yoda and the Jedi used to teach in the Prequels.

Its a horrible Jedi code to disallow love or attachment, considering if they did allow it, a lot more Jedi would be born and raised with that positive light, and not strive for love in the way Anakin did. He wasn’t allowed to love but he did, and sought to protect it witch turned him to the Sith who didn’t care less. If that wasn’t the case with the Jedi, I bet he could’ve seeked help from his masters for help to protect Padme, and not Palpatine causing the whole chaos.

Love and attachment can turn into an obsession for some , and lead to strong forms of emotion like fear and anger. "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering" as Yoda put it.

@@Alienkiwi730 Ofc I watched the movies! But you have to remember, that Anakin unlike most other Jedi was raised through harsh conditions from a young age and was practically saved by the Jedi and Padme, like when he asked," Are you an Angel?" because of her beauty, however it could also regard to her also being his guardian and his savior. He became infatuated with her because she was this light against all the darkness he had. So, yes, while love and attachment led Anakin to sinister ends, I believe his heart was pure and his path was misguided and tampered.

The weird thing is that I totally buy their relationship in Revenge of the Sith despite terribly done the romance is in Attack of the Clones. We don't have an exact length of time spent in Attack of the Clones, but it's seemingly really only like a week or so, so I have a really hard time believing that after ten years of not seeing each other, that Padmé would be so willing to just jump into a relationship with Anakin. Back in 2019, when I was rewatching all the movies leading into Rise of Skywalker, I intentionally paid closer attention than I ever had before (because it's Star Wars, you watch them enough times and you eventually just go into autopilot), this time I really wanted to try and understand all the things George was doing with the movies.
Padmé does appear to be a bit conflicted, and I think that Attack of the Clones could actually be a great starting point to a relationship, but not culminate in marriage quite so quickly. With the Prequels intentionally being melodramatic, you have to just go along with some things that just don't make sense. Anyway, I noticed that Padmé is kind of struck by the man Anakin has become, so at the very least, on a superficial level, she is attracted to him, and despite all the times that he makes her feel uncomfortable, she is flattered by his attempts, he just doesn't know what he's doing (why would he?), and that oddly becomes kind of endearing to her. Like in her brain it's, "Oh my God you have no idea what you are doing, these are the worst advances I've ever heard, but it's kind of cute." So in a way, Anakin does wear her down, but his awkwardness also allows her to be more herself, and since they are supposed to be in hiding and spending so much time together, I can at least see Padmé begin to develop feelings toward him.
Then we go to Tatooine, and a lot of that kind of gets thrown out the window because he kills a whole village of people and she's still okay with even being around him. However, I think she also gets that the Jedi have gotten him so confused about everything, that she feels she can't just leave him in his grief because that will only make things worse, so she decides to comfort him. Then they go to Geonosis, and the two prove to be a decent team. He's always there to rescue her when she absolutely needs it, which of course is always nice for her, but he can also see that she's not afraid to get her hands dirty either and can handle things herself, so even though he is possessive, he doesn't need to be as clingy as he was earlier. So now things are kind of working again, and I can buy more of the relationship. If this was something that was going on for months, then yeah, I can see the two actually being in love and getting married, it's more just the pace at which things happen in the movie that makes it absolutely unbelievable. At the beginning of the movie, Anakin's just "That funny little boy" to Padmé and then suddenly right before they're about to be executed with giant monsters, she truly and deeply loves him? Maybe with time, but over a week or two; I just don't buy it.
And that's where Revenge of the Sith works. We know that Anakin and Padmé have been married for some time, they have had that time for the relationship to grow, and now that a family is beginning to take place, there's no way they don't love each other. It also doesn't hurt to see that relationship in The Clone Wars. My perspectives have been skewed so much by that show on everything, but especially with Anakin and Padmé, you can see that he brings home dinner, and the two want to be together, but the war also tests the relationship with Clovis being an old boyfriend that keeps interrupting their lives and Anakin constantly being set off to war. Even in the Microseries, with as short a time as it had to dedicate to their relationship, you see that she doesn't want Anakin to go, she gives him R2-D2 when he needs a new droid, and she's also Anakin's anchor so that he can achieve his goals, reminding him to just stay patient so he can become a Jedi like he always dreamed, she really cares about his wants and needs. It's actually really sweet, which makes it all the more tragic that Anakin let's his possessive nature and fall to the Dark Side end their relationship.
It's not that this relationship can never work, it's just that the start of it is so bad that we question it's legitimacy. I do like your points though about how Padmé has grown up always putting the needs of others above her own and never feeling allowed to have time for herself and having a romantic side to her life. It's only shot down a bit by her mentioning having a bit of a relationship with that one boy when she was in the Legislative Youth Program who then became an artist. I don't think it was ever something that was really frowned upon as you make it sound, it could have been more about personal choice on Padmé's part or she felt there was just never time for her to be open to relationships. Even with the handmaiden decoys, who's got the time for dating as the Queen of Naboo? Who's even going to ask her out? Then as a Senator, we know about Clovis, but it clearly didn't work out, probably because he's a banker, gross. So maybe combine your ideas with what I gathered and maybe Padmé really does fall hard for Anakin.

Personally, the way how I would have done Anakin and Padme’s relationship was to have Anakin be charming and seemingly calm under pressure, but underneath is a man who struggles with the weight of responsibility and expectations put onto him by others. Padme, who goes through the same thing, comes to see this and falls for him when he starts being open with her, despite her uncertainty when it comes to his charming behavior, which she is attracted to (plus the rocking bod). Maybe throw in that the two come an agreement that trying to pursue a relationship would be a bad idea but when one thinks the other is dead and is relived that they are not, they give in to their feelings and go for it.

I've had this grimdark theory for ages (probably born from some of the wild tinfoil hats that came out of Game of Thrones theorycraft) but I suspected that Anakin might have been subtly and slowly "Mindtricking" Padme. Excerting uncouncious psychic pressure born from Anakin's traumatized mind and need for attachment. Padme is strong-willed and likely would be able to resist a straightforward Jedi Mindtrick, but what if a powerful force users who is in constant close proximity is sending wave after wave of unconsicious 'like me' vibes? The moment she reveals her own feelings is when she's about to be paraded in front of the seperatists to be executed after nearly dying in a failed rescue attempt (and a deleted kangaroo court scene), an emotionally charged and fraught situtation and likely low point for her. Before this she was standing at ground zero of his emotional breakdown after losing his mother.
Overall, this could be tangently why the jedi started ruling against intensely emotional relationships and seperating kids from parents before the formation of core memories; because they knew what young hormonal jedi who don't know their own psychic strength can do to innocent people.
I will conclude by saying this I don't actually think this is what's going on and think that normal young love foolishness is more than capable of explaining their 'chemistry'. I have another theory about Star Wars, and that it's extremely difficult for anybody in the universe to find a partner and start a family, with the biological, economic, and geographic issues of the universe.

She didn't have a childhood, literally queen since she was 14. She was desperate to have a person to fill that role for her, Anakin just happened to be strong, capable, yet surprisingly emotionally vulnerable and mentally unstable. All red flags to us, but Padme saw it as a chance to have a strong Jedi simp she could simultaneously rely on yet also have be completely dependent on her emotionally and merely told herself it was love after the fact.
I worry if they hadn't spent those years apart, Padme might have groomed Anakin as a kid.

Well, he does seem to put her on a pedestal, but not as a politician. Also, he's so far removed from her political circles (despite the Council's later involvement because of the Clone Wars) that she probably feels he's a 'safe' individual y'know? He's not a slimy politician, just a perpetually awkward and mildly stunted hot guy. And while he does worship the ground she walks on, it's still different in that it's at least genuine if not a bit obsessive.. then again, Natalie said Padmé likes Anakin because he grew up hot but😂 I personally don't necessarily *like* Anidala, but it has its beauty :) even if it's nowhere near a healthy relationship 😂

There is no need for theories. Just look at what is shown in the movies. Anakin and Padmé already felt affection for each other in TPM though there was no sexual tension at the time. They remember this affection in AOTC but now there is sexual tension due to Anakin's growth. Add to this Padmé hadn't any relationship with boys since before becoming a politician. She was 12 at the time as she herself says in AOTC. This idea could have worked better if the scene with Anakin visiting his "in-laws" hadn't been taken out of the final cut. Still the idea is in the film and there's no need for searching elsewhere. Anyway, Anakin and Padmé are left alone in the Lake Country of Naboo so it simply happened what needed to happen. Padmé just delayed it for a while. She was already in love with Anakin when they travelled to Tatooine in search of his mother. Why going along with him despite the red flags if not? Her confession finally comes out when they're about to die. This romance works despite being non-conventional and tragical.
Nonetheless it is even easier to understand when you remember ANAKIN SAVED PADMÉ'S LIFE at the very beginning of the film by killing the poisonous centipedes ON HER BED.

Serious question then: what do you think about people who think her fate in ROTS was rightfully deserved after the Clovis events (Clone Wars)??? Not making you agree or disagree on those opinions. Just wanting to try and conclude that Anakin ain't the sole guy who deserved therapy. Maybe Padme should have sought therapy too

he risked his life in a pod race to help her get a part for her spaceship, he saved her planet from the trade federation by blowing up the droid command ship, he doesn't hear from her for ten years and when they finally reunite, she literally calls him a little boy in front of the leader of the entire galaxy, the jedi, and his mentor...THEN he saves her from two worm things nesting in her hair, risks his life again in coruscant air traffic catch zam and instead of gratitude, she tells him he makes her uncomfortable...THEN she HUMILIATES him in front of the naboo queen and the council by telling them all 'he's just a padawan!' why does he love HER? she's not worthy of him! i'll rule the galaxy with you...poor anakin!

    I’m more interested in why does Anakin love Padme lol tbh, I mean just like the Jedi she ditched his mom to slavery and forgot all about her (and the novel that was meant to correct that did not help at all) I mean we are talking about the one character who never learned to anything go and lo and behold he RANDOMLY did >___>;;;

    "Why does Padme love Anakin"
Well, my own answer would be actually different from yours: it's because he's unlike everyone else in her life.
Padme was a politician since she was a literal child. She's surrounded by subtle people who sling carefully weighted words with triple and quadruple meanings, never showing their true emotions. And, y'know, she's a young woman, but she's in a position in which no one can show actual romantic interest towards her and if they do, there's probably some ulterior motive behind it.
Enter Anakin. Clearly a man of action, not words. One that wears his heart on his sleeve. One that obviously wants her because of her, not because of what he can achieve through her. Also, he's hot, like, come on, Hayden Christensen is a handsome dude. Add to it the fact that he's troubled and special - both being a Jedi AND a sort of an outsider within the Jedi Order - and there you have it.
A better question would be how could she not fall for him.

I don't think the execution of the prequels was bad at all. I was 18 when they first started coming out, loved all of them back then, and still love them now. In my opinion, it seems most accuse Lucas of having poor execution because they idolize the OT. Don't get me wrong, I love those films too...but they're not untouchable masterpieces. Lucas said many times over the years that in the '70s and '80s he had to sacrifice so much, primarily due to the technology available to him at the time. But 15 years later that all changed, and so he was finally able to make Star Wars as he originally wanted it to be.

When I first saw the title of this I thought, "Yeah, why???" However, you reminded me of what I originally saw in the movie, which is what you said--that essentially both are so lonely having to pretend all the time. Badly excecuted, yet--and I KNOW Natalie Portman is a good actor, but here she is so flat. I do think Lucas is not as good with the subtler aspects of writing for and directing actors. There's not much build, really, with Hayden's performance of Anakin. He starts out whiny and ends...whiny. I do like the final prequel the best, however, when the story really turns tragic. I am glad you noticed how not very nice the supposed heroes, the Jedi, were, with ironically the exception of Obi-Wan, who kept their secret. I wish they had explored some of those ideas more, and why you need a synthesis of head and heart to be truly good.

I actually wanna do a video essay going over how the Rebels in the OT were actually breaking real world laws if we were to apply them.
The basic premise is that (the Senate and Jedi Order gets corrupted by ego and/or arrogance) --> (Palpatine, through various and COMPLETLY LEGAL means, creates an army) --> (uses said army to help keep peace when the corrupt establishments are destroyed through martial law) --> (Rebellion starts cause, "The Emperor and Vader are trying to kill everyone. Also, the Old Republic and Jedi.")
Literally, the Rebellion is around cause they think that Vader and Palpatine wanna be conceded d-bags and kill everything. No fam, they literally wanna just make sure there is no corruption. Sure they may kill people, but they do it --entirely-- mostly merciful and quick.

Anakin has a crush on Padme, and she adores the little boy in him. He ultimately uses his force powers like a toy to impress her. Whether or not he is using Jedi mind tricks on her, or she is simply drawn to his force abilities, is a subjective plot device. But the moral of the story is Anakin uses the force to seduce her, something that is echoed by Ben Kenobi's explanation to Luke Skywalker how Vader was seduced by the dark side of the force. The way he uses the force to seduce Padme is his first step toward the dark side, which leads to his impulsive slaughter of the Tuskens, and ultimately to his slaughtering the younglings in Episode III, all representations of fear, anger and aggression that lead to the death of the little boy that Padme always saw in him and adored.
