Hi Emily! Thanks so much for reviewing Cloudburst :) Just wanted to mention that if you're going TS into Cloudburst, that rear switch should be set to the middle position (mono -> stereo) in order to get stereo output with a mono input. If you set it to the right setting that's just labeled 'stereo', the pedal will expect TRS stereo input, and you will only get dry signal from one of the outputs, which it sounds like is what might be happening here. When set to that middle switch, you should definitely get dry signal in both outputs. Thanks again for checking it out!
This is easily the best demo of this pedal out there. Everyone else has over the top sounds that wouldn't ever be usable to me. Everything you're creating here is beautiful!
I was kind of amazed when you had the ensemble in the middle position and then completely blown away by the forte setting. Great playing as well, I got some Angelo Badalamenti vibes from this.
@@thomascunningham2919 Oh it's okay, I'm always curious when people say that (and it's not uncommon). If I unknowingly made some changes and people like them, I'd like to know what it is!
So I just got on of these puppies and experimenting with my active ukulele. In case you didn't know, it is tuned GCEA - 4 strings of course - which is like having a Capo on fret 5 of your guitar. Why am I telling you this? - well the sound is just as awesome in that register and even introduces a brass sound generated with the higher harmonics.
One of the excellent features is that you don't lose dry volume until you go past 3 o'clock on the Mix knob. By that time it's really wet. Mine is on the 6-string acoustic board along with its expression pedal and a Danelectro rotary unit. Decay at noon, Pre-delay & Mod at zero, Mix at zero (heel) to 3 o'clock (toe), and Tone sweeping from 9 o'clock to noon. The pedal controls whichever sound you've selected with the toggle switch and it's really simple to set it. To override the pedal you turn knobs. So for one song in the set I'll go for full wet, then moving the pedal restores its function for the next song.
i have this pedal runnng a metal and a distortion before it chorus and a vintage delay after ...its amazing....totally inspired you have done an exellent review
Outstanding reverb pedal. You prove that it can sound great without using any other effects. Job well done! The only thing keeping me from buying a Cloudburst right away is the price. At about $400(Canadian) that's a lot of scratch for a single pedal. Thanks for the demo! BTW does this unit have a freeze function which allows a chord to be held while you can play other notes/tones over it? Best regards from Montreal.
Hi Emily - thanks for the great demo. What a great pedal. I would love to know how it sounds just Mono through a guitar amp. ie. My usual gig set up is just a mono jack out of my pedal board into a fender Bassman - I imagine the pedal loses a lot of its zing when it is not running stereo? Jonny
Thank you for this test and your work. I have a question: the dry signal of the guitar and the sound of the ensemble can be heard in other places of the stereo panorama. How did you do that? Is it possible to separate the dry guitar signal and the ensemble sound separately? I am currently using EHX series 9 pedals and there are two separate outputs: dry and effect. Strymon doesn't have it... how is it that you can hear these signals separately?
Apparently I had the toggle on the back set wrong hahah. There are three positions on the toggle, and whichever one I had it set to made it sound this way. I didn't have a manual when I filmed this demo (not uncommon for launches, unfortunately) so I had no idea that there were three settings on the back. Does that make sense? I wish I could help you more but I had to return the pedal to Vintage King so they could shoot it.
@@GetOffset This way of sending a signal is desirable for me. I'm wondering if it's not possible to set the output so that there is a guitar in one channel and strings in the other ... Such a separation of signals will allow me to separately control the strength of the strings with the volume pedal while playing - this is how I currently mix EHX String9 and B9 sounds + guitar... I'm still looking for such interesting information.
@getoffset how do you find the Cloudburst to be in mono? I would probably run it in mono and then run a stereo pedal after it, but I'm wondering if I'm losing anything by not running it in stereo.
This sounded sooo good! I need to stop listening to the strymon demos today 😆 I’m gonna hurt myself emotionally haha at 830 mark and I think 14mark forte sounded so lovely but ensemble sounded so lovely with jazz as a compliment with more emotion behind it. I have big sky and in order to do what this pedal does is have to put a EHX mel9 before it for strings!
It's almost the same. They took the "cloud" algorithm and made some changes, adding the ensemble feature and making it work better in small spaces. Es casi lo mismo. Tomaron el algoritmo de "nube" e hicieron algunos cambios, agregaron la función de conjunto y lo hicieron funcionar mejor en espacios pequeños. #GoogleTranslate so sorry if that doesn't make sense.
If I bought this thing I'd literally never use it as a reverb and exclusively use it to turn a guitar into a synth/pad. Really curious how it sounds with gnarly fuzzes and bitcrushers.
Big sky still sounds better and bigger to me. The ensemble thing is the only thing that will make this pedal sell once people figure out its not as good as big sky cloud
The fact that everyone who plays this instantly smiles when playing on the forte setting is proof this is a must own pedal. Well, there goes my bonus.
Hahah I didn't even realize I did that!

Oh shoot, thanks for clarifying!
Can I keep TRS cables plugged in, but use mono mode? Only sending via TIP of course. I.e would the mono mode ignore the ring?
@@HWYau There's a toggle on the back. I'm sure it's explained in the manual, but I didn't get a manual to film this.
@@HWYau Yep, as long as you're just sending signal on the tip of the TRS connection, that would be the same as using a mono cable.
Emily, you're blowing me away with this pedal demo. The pedal, the Twin Peaks theme, your explanation on the controls. You nailed it.! GREAT JOB!🤑
Thank you, Robert!

That's so kind of you to say! Just happy to be helpful :)
Wow, so many dreamy and spacey sounds. This is a pedal that you can get lost in for weeks if not months. Angelo Badalamenti would approve (RIP).
RIP to a true master of music.

That ain't too bad! Really impressive stuff here. You sold me!
Awww, thanks for the kind words, hope you like the pedal!
"fully decay fade out" just a cool sounding phrase...sounds great with your playing.👍Love this channel.
I haven't watched you in a while something has changed. I like it. As always you are the guitarist for the rest of us. Thank you.
Changed? Like what?
@@GetOffsetWhat a strange thing for @DennisK55 to say to you. Don’t pay attention to him. Keep up the great work!

Wow, that ensemble control on forte really gets it into Bladerunner territory quickly, and those jazzy passages really took it there.
Do you dream of unicorns?
Yes. Very Bladerunner.

"That sound took me 6 weeks to make!!!!!"

Nice demo thanks, this is more likely how it would sound if I played it so good to know :)
ugh this is so good i have to get one thanks this was really good demo
Nice Emily, I play worship music. I like it. I have been considering this pedal. Great job. Best demo I have heard of this pedal
Glad it was helpful!
Great demo, as always. I even enjoy your demos on pedals I have no real interest in, like any Strymon. Keep making the great content!
Glad you like them!
I just want to buy this pedal and play Slowdive covers all day.
Yassssss
Good choice 🤟

Could we have more long waves of strings? Thanks

I honestly prefer it in mono tbh. It's great that it has stereo, and that adds a great depth no doubt, but I'd use it in mono way more.
Twin Peaks!
Damn fine theme song. Damn fine.
I get goosebumps everytime I hear that sound. I still have a CD soundtrack of Twin peaks.
How much do you love the new Offset.?? Ive been playing goldfoils for awhile but that fender is very pleasing to look at with the blocks and Bigs.
It's pretty cool. I did a video on it where I talk about my thoughts

I'd personally use it in mono tbh
I like that their pedals are getting smaller
Haha yeah I don't have a ton of board real estate these days
Great demo ! You are like a kid in the candy store.
Hahah I feel that way a lot!
@@GetOffset Do you know, How a boss overdrive pedal Or tube screamer Will compliment with this pedal ?
Sadly no, I had to send it back pretty shortly after I filmed (and didn't have a ton of time to experiment with it before filming)

If this sells as well as I think it will...I bet Strymon does more of these.
@@GetOffset True. It would be odd to come up with this form factor for a one-off. Although they would probably do Ice from the Timeline next.

Yea, would like to hear a bass/cello demo!?
Ah I'm sorry, I actually had to send this back to Vintage King so they could film but I'll let them know people are asking for bass!

Can one plug in 2 mono cords and have dry signal (and wet) in stereo?
No, you'd need to split your signal before this pedal to get wet dry.
11:35 oooooh that got a bit Twin Peaks. Nice.
You got it!

Hmmm maybe I should try that out...
It's sounds great , I'm using MRX poly blue octave with fuzz and there's lots going on
I'm thinking you could probably communicate with Whales using this pedal. 🐳 Great Demo
Hahaha that's my ultimate dream
👍🙂
If you can make a pedal video the same as Cyber attack I can transition from watching his to yours
for the price of this i don't see why people wouldn't just buy the big sky...the ensemble and smaller size isn't enough to justify buying this
If you only really like one algorithm it is
Lovely sound but sadly too expensive
And its not coming out of right side much at all. left is all guitar and late tails are right with no guitar. your vocal mic is both.
I talk about that in the video that with lower mix you won't get as much of the wet signal while dry tends to exist on one side only.
Behoove. Seriously underused word.
