The Nintendo Switch and Apple Silicon are a matchmade in heaven due to the similarities of ARM architecture between M1/M2 and the Tegra chip. In terms of CPU overheads we normally see with emulation there are practically zero as it ARMv8 doesn't need translating. The GPU differences are major but the team have done a great job of making the emulator Metal compatible, the work done on the geometry shaders on an API that doesn't have them is nothing short of genius. Everyone should donate to this team if they're using this software, no matter how small the donation. The skills and time required to create something like this are massive, the team deserve some beers/coffee/cake.
Let’s go! This is so exciting to see. Congrats to the ryujinx team for bringing this to life. Great video as always, Andrew! Macs are really becoming a great option for all emulation
0:28 I found this channel today from that video and after watching it, I told to myself that switch emulation on M1 will take some months or years to be properly playable on apple silicone. Imagine my surprise when a few seconds later I found this other video! I am ecstatic!! Thank you so much to the Ryujinx team and thank you so much also to the channel creator for this very easy guide to get the emulator working.
It's an amazing step forward, thank you Andrew for sharing this with us. I'm looking forward to your next performance video, i hope the basline macbook air m1 will behave well
Just tried out Pokemon Violet on Macbook Air M1 Base model and it works great! Constant 30 fps in the early parts of the game where the open world is still not open and after you enter the first major city it hovers arround 25-30 fps but overall stable and fully playable! Just to compare it with windows i downloaded it in my PC which has gtx 1060 6gb but a relatively slow cpu( i5-7400) in todays standards and in the same city as mentioned above i had 15-20 fps which shows how powerful the m1 is as cpus go! Emulators are CPU depended for the most part so i believe the base m1 wont have trouble running most of the switch games.
Thanks for the video and the quick walkthrough. I got everything working and I'm using my old ps4 controller and it works great. keep up the good work.
Tried this last night on My MacbookAir (16gb of RAM 8 GPU Cores) , it is really awesome as it opens up MacOS with the gaming community, and I was really surprised how many games I could play at the native 30FPS. Great video.
@@krushant1122p I found that most of the games I tried worked, and they all performed well enough to play, some will only get about 30 FPS, the initial stuttering while it compiles the shaders can be a little annoying, but that only last for a little while in most games as the shaders are used for the first time. I am hoping that they get the VSYNC working better though, as you do get some tearing when there is horizontal scrolling or camera panning. Definitely recommend you give it a go, I use the platform to test games that I am thinking about buying for the switch so that I know I am going to play them. Some games I tried are: Super Meat Boy, Super Mario Odyssey, Luigis Mansion 3, Red Aces, Super Mario Kart 8…

I amazed how well emulation works for all consoles even PS3 , and most other consoles too ... I only got the M2 pro mini, but even with this one it's pretty good overall, an M1 ultra would be even better , or a new studio with M2 max or Ultra chip ^^
answer on macOS M1 is not yet. it hangs just a bit after Zelda calls out to link and the flare dying out makes the screen beige. it seems that the non-Mac versions can play it but they're having a variety of graphics glitching, some severe, some not. those seem to be on more recent Windows versions. the macOS version is just barely out but seems based on the older 1.1 version. i would expect more updates as this is the first macOS version available.
Hi! Thank you for your work. Juste a little question regarding the configuration guide. I don't understand the dependencies's part. Is it mandatory to the emulator to work well? Thank you again and have a nice day!
This looks pretty cool. I'm pretty new to emulation and I'm curious. Since the hardware on the Mac is unfortunately more powerful than the switch, what is it about emulation that is required to change to get better performance / eliminate frame rate dips? This is absolutely monumental but is performance gain really just dependent on future releases and development of ryujinx? (Throwing that in there to even further justify contribution if it's a factor)
There is a lot to optimize when developing an emulator. The reason to why it still needs more horse power to run than the original switch needs for its games is that hardware has to be emulated aswell. The game as is has no clue it‘s running on an M1, it thinks it‘s a switch Tegra APU (which it is, but a fake emulated one).

this is crazy, makes me want to switch to a mac
I'm all for Macs but please don't get it for gaming. If you wanna play get a PC or whatever console you think is best for you.
Don't, i have an Alder Lake Intel Core i7-12700K with AVX512 (i found an early chip). It blows Apple Sillicon out of the water on PS3 emulation.
it's much cheaper to buy and mod an unpatched Switch though
