  • Step-by-step guide on how to replace / remove / change car battery on Chevy Equinox SUV. You will have to replace the battery if your Equinox is not starting at all or during cold mornings. That means the battery is at the end of its life and is not holding charge anymore. ( 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | LS | LT | LTZ ).
Battery on Chevy Equinox is located under the front hood, just under the PCM. To start first you will have to slide black PCM cover off of the PCM. Then remove one 10mm bolt holding the PCM in place. Remove PCM, you don't have to disconnect it. Next thing to remove is the battery holder. To do that you have to remove plastic cover between the battery and the headlight. It is held by three plastic trim screws. Remove the screws and lift up the cover. Now you have access to one of the battery holder's mounting screws. Remove it, it is 10mm. Remove 10mm nut from the battery holder as well. Remove the holder and finally you have access to the battery.
Always first disconnect negative battery terminal when removing the battery. When installing new battery make sure to first connect positive battery terminal, to avoid any kind of shorts. You will again need 10mm wrench key or a ratchet with 10mm socket. That's it. Good luck.
If you live in a climate with really cold winters consider installing a battery with higher CCA (cold cranking amps) rating, but always follow vehicle recommended battery strength and size ratings.
    Thanks for watching.

I've had nissans, Hondas and Toyotas and I've never had issues with them. The equinox is a puzzle.

Why would the engineers design putting the main computer on top of the battery? when you go to change the battery you can possibly damage the wiring, computer, or both is beyond my simple comprehension. Thank you for the video, very very helpful!

You're most welcome. I agree it is really an odd position of the PCM and doesn't make too much sense

Hi, it is a 10mm screw. Now the diameter is probably 3/16" but can't say for sure. You should be able to find a replacement in a hardware store
