    Knowing how to remove your old battery is also key. Proper battery removal ensures your safety and keeps your vehicle’s electrical systems intact. You should always remove the NEGATIVE terminal cable first. Then after unhooking the negative terminal and setting it aside, disconnect the positive terminal. Why is this so important? Think of it this way: Your vehicle’s electrical system is a closed circuit. The negative terminal’s cable connects to your vehicle’s frame, which is part of the circuit, but its current flows from your car’s frame and components. Positive current, on the other hand, flows into the circuit from your battery. If you disconnect the positive cable first, there’s always a chance that you may accidentally touch it to other metal pieces. This completes the circuit and can cause a short in your car’s electrical system. Even if your old battery has just a small amount of juice, you could blow fuses or generate sparks that ignite and explode your battery. Any of these can result in serious injuries. Once you’ve disconnected the battery cables, pull off the cover and you’re still not quite done. You must also disconnect the brackets holding your battery in place. In most cases, you just need to unbolt them. Next, lift the battery carefully out of your vehicle and set it aside. This is a good time to do some cleaning in the battery tray to remove any leaf’s and dirt.
    Most batteries’ lifespans range between two and five years, but that can vary with each driver’s habits. Before you’re left dead in the water, it’s a good idea to monitor your battery’s health. Many auto parts retailers offer free battery testing. When you’re shopping for your replacement, I put a free link in the description you can use free VIN www.autozone.com/vin-decoder to lookup from AutoZone to find models that fit your vehicle by its exact make, model and year.
    Place the new battery in the tray, facing the terminals toward the windshield like the old one. Before I reinstall the terminals, I spray anticorrosive on the battery and cable terminals, one of these cans will last you forever! Now put the cover back on. When re-hooking the battery terminals, it’s positive first and then negative. Tighten each 10mm nuts on each terminal. And don’t forget to reconnect the bracket holding your battery in place. Next thing is to start it up and see if anything needs to be reset. You have now completed this job and hopefully this video helped you along the way.

      Great video. Are there any tricks or methods for removing the negative terminal when it is extremely corroded?

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  7 місяців тому +1

      @@simonkeane5053 If the terminal is hard to take off you'll need to get a battery terminal puller. there's a link in the description of this video you can click on or pick it up at any auto parts store. Wear gloves and eye protection when doing this.... Let me know if you have any questions..

      My daughter just called and said she needed a battery. Im 4hrs away so I told her to go to Oreillys or Autozone. They wouldn't touch it. She went elsewhere to get it done, but if she hadn't found someone, I was going to send her this video. She's a nurse too, BTW.

      They aren't allowed to because if you short the ecu or fuse block on the top of the battery. It's expensive and a dealer only part and causes a lot of headache.

    This video was awesome! I'm not fluent in DIY car repair but consider myself semi-conversant and this was perfect step by step. Watched the whole thing 1 time and then restarted as I was completing the install and paused after each step to complete the task and came back and pressed play.
    Didn't go too fast or skip any seemingly insignificant steps. I knew exactly what to expect with each step.
    A must follow.

    Perfect video, thank you so much. Had to deal with this on my wife’s 2010 Equinox in below zero temps-your video really nailed the step by step to take the guess work out. I unfortunately broke the three plastic rivets trying to remove with a flat head screwdriver but those can be easily replaced.
    One thing I encountered was a very corroded terminal to the negative post. Nothing I tried would release the terminal, including WD-40. I ended up buying a Battery Terminal Puller tool that solved my problem in about 10 seconds. Thought I’d share in case that saves anyone further headaches when you get to that step.
    Lastly, shame on the Chevy engineers for creating such a difficult design to access what should be a simple fix. Totally ridiculous.

    • @JohnCRV
      @JohnCRV  Рік тому +2

      I agree with you on all points made!. Those rivets can be easily replaces and the puller is always handy. it usually happens when they overtight the terminal clamp and the the battery swells up on top. Goo you got it going. 👍 and thanks for the feedback.

      Next time use the red terminal and the screw next to it to Jump or charge. Its located on the fuse box next to the battery. You do not need to take the computer off to get to the battery. I need to do a video and add it to the Equinox playlist.
