How To Cut PERFECTLY CIRCULAR HOLES! (Hole Saw Bit/Circle Bit--Cut Circles in Wood, Drywall, PVC!)
Most new DIYers think you need to use a jigsaw to cut a circle in a piece of wood. Really, all you need is a drill and the right bit. In this video, The Honest Carpenter shows you how to use hole saw bits to cut perfectly circular holes in wood, drywall and PVC!
Hole saw bits are deep-throated circular drill bits with a serrated saw edge. When chucked into a drill and pressed against a surface, these hole saw bits will cut their way through material by simply spinning under pressure.
Hole saw bits are often also known as "circle bits."
Hole saws consist of a saw cup, a mandrel, and a drill bit or pilot bit. The three pieces will mate together.
Hole saws come in a variety of sizes, and often come in kits ranging from 3/4" diameter bits, to 2-1/2" bits. Electricians will often even use 5" and 6" hole saws to cut out holes for recessed lights / can lights.
Hole saws are aggressive. Be sure to hold the drill with both hands when using hole saw bits, and hold the drill perfectly upright or perpendicular to the surface your cutting.
Start drilling with light pressure. But use a high speed when drilling wood.
Also, be sure to back the hole saw out frequently to clear saw dust from the saw tooth gullets WHEN THE TOOL IS NOT SPINNING. This will help the hole saw bit cut better.

@@crapstirrer No... scary shit is when you have a 5-6" hole saw chucked up in a benchtop drill press, you have the piece clamped down with c-clamps, and the teeth bind so bad in the 3/4" plywood you're boring it makes the whole drillpress jump and buck. Actually tore one of the lag bolts mounting the press to the bench free. Almost lost my left middle finger that day.

as always, another great video for the beginner!
if you are using a large holesaw through really hard and thick material (e.g., i was drilling plumbing holes through 1" hardwood decking in a truck) it can make things go faster if after you get started and the bit teeth are just beneath the surface you drill a couple smaller with a regular bit along the inner circumference. that way, the sawdust will just fall-through, and the teeth won't get all gummed-up.

I need to cut some plug holes in the back of a bookcase, but the back is just 4mm oak veneer. Would you still use a hole saw for this, given that it will be difficult to drill halfway through and then finish the other side? Other problem is I cant remove the backing onto a workbench, so I will have to drill it vertically, in situ. My idea at the moment is to duct tape a piece of scrap to the rear, and use a hole saw to drill right through in one go. Do you think this would work ok? Thanks

Beaver starts playing with his father's unplugged drill. When Larry comes over, he tries to goad Beaver into plugging it in to drill real holes. Knowing he isn't supposed to play with his father's tools, Beaver refuses. But Beaver doesn't stop Larry from doing it, with Beaver even holding the piece of wood Larry is going to drill into up against the garage wall. When the resulting drill holes result in holes in the garage wall as well, Beaver knows he's going to get into trouble when his father sees what happened. Indeed, Ward feels that the incident is more Beaver's fault than Larry's fault since Beaver knew directly from Ward previously that he was not to play with his tools. Angry that he is being punished for what he believes is not his fault, Beaver not only tells his father that he is going to run away, but defiantly (at first) walks out of the house in front of his father. But when Ward lets him go, Beaver seems confused but leaves anyway. The battle of wills is now not only between Ward and Beaver, but also between Ward and June who doesn't care about anything except the welfare of her son, even after they find out that Beaver is fine and over at the Mondello's. Wally is the one who provides the voice of reason, or at least the voice of what it feels like to be a child pushed into a corner.

Perfect.. Lol... Those aren't even close to a perfect hole. It's rough hole where an accurate diameter isn't needed...

This would be ideal for me, but I'd like to use the wee circles. How do I get around the centre bit creating a hole in the circle. I don't want the wee hole just a nice circle. Thank you
