Tanner you are the best communicator of all the pickleball gurus out there! I love how your vids get right to the point. Can you make a concise intro to pickleball vid that I can play for beginners in our group? Something short that just gives them the scoring, kitchen, serving and bounce rules in your very clear style? There's a bunch out there already, but I can't find anything that gets right to the point like you do.
Definitely one of the best Pickleball subject matter expert out there. Combined with the private lessons I'm taking, your tutorials have elevated my game in a very short time!
Tanner, Excellent Drills. I am 73 and I drill more than I play. Your Body Mechanics instructions really help. Footwork is key since I am a Self Defense Practitioner, Makes a lot of Sense. Top Spin has been hard for me. I come from a Racquet Ball Background. I have been playing PB for 5 years. Sinking and getting under the Ball will be on the Agenda tomorrow as well as the Midcourt Drill that speeds up and uses the Backhand. Also Thanks for the Tip at the Kitchen line on holding the Paddle. Keep the Videos Coming. Thank you! Joe
Hello. I really enjoyed the video. After watching, I realized that this is why many of my volleys are rising up and often out of bounds. With your video, I have seen great improvement but I was just wondering what grip strength we should be using at the net for those types of shots?
@tanner.pickleball do you also recommend this position when blocking a drive once I'm positioned at the kitchen line alrdy? Thanks for all your coahing bro. It's helped me a ton. 🤙
Hi Tanner, just had my first session since watching this video. It gave me the confidence to get right up to the kitchen line and not be afraid of fast balls coming at me. I won loads of points now knowing about keeping the paddle up and in the backhand position. The game just got a lot easier. I now look forward to getting up to the kitchen line for a hands battle or countering a banger! Thanks again for your amazing content!
You easily are one of be best coaches on You Tube. These videos are exceedingly helpful! I always thought wrist was not supposed to be loose. More mistakes can happen. But you talking about having the wrist cocked and the angle to hit down was like a light bulb going off. I was hitting it the wrong way….like you showed on this video. Definitely going to start doing this. Thank you!
I feel like this ball under the armpit trick just raised my skill by .5 points in a single drill session, amazing and thank you so much! Follow up question, on what other shots does this basic form (keeping the ball from dropping from your armpit) apply? It also feels like it's the right thing to do for attacks at the kitchen (whether off the bounce or rolls out of the air). Is it correct to apply it in that scenario or are there any others that come to mind where this is the proper technique?
Hi Tanner, love your drills. I'm wondering if you had done wall drills and what are the best wall drill exercises you would recommend if you find them helpful too
Hi Gary!! I personally have not done any! However, if I could go back in time.. I would! I recommend practicing the flick like suggested on the video. As well as, keeping a rally on the wall so you can keep compact form! Dinking I don’t find very useful after you get the hang of it.
@@tanner.pickleball Thank you - so by rally you mean like volleys to the wall with the compact form right? I'll try that out with a ball in my armpit too
Tanner, Thankyou for all your helpful videos. Do you have a video out on dinking corner to corner? My issue is I tend to hit the ball too high to my opponents fore arm where they are able to put it away to my partners back hand. Thanks again.
Great suggestion! I do not have a video on that but can certainly make one. But I think you’re doing is you’re starting off by going wide when drinking. You should try to put some balls to the middle of the court before you go out wide so your opponent is off-balance and unable to snag that one
Not moving your feet and only using your arms might make for faster paddle movement, but pivoting and shifting allow for more quality shots. Watching Ben Johns and J dub, they are NOT planted on their feet in hands battles. The frequently use lateral movement, and pivot their feet.
What grip are you using here? Continental? eastern? I find when I’m slightly eastern, my right shoulder is vulnerable because it’s harder to switch to my forehand when I need to.
I just wish this address how to switch to forehand. Everything was backhand including one awkward chicken wing. Also, if youre in a hands battle and the ball is coming to your waist area, this downward attack wouldnt reach low enough
these look good and all, but i can see that often times you are doing the chicken wing thing on the backhand volley--exactly what you told us not to do. i'm a little confused about whether this is something that can be avoided or should be avoided. it almost seems natural?? i don't know.
This is definitely something I personally struggle with. I tend to do the chicken wing for my paddle side hip. For my paddle side shoulder I tend to often do the chicken wing as well, although I am actively working to make that a forehand!
Lmao. Dude you drill her not once but twice. I think she was pissed and walked off. Great tips. Except standing flat footed, there is not a sport on the planet that is played flat footed? Which is still why i call pickleball the best drinking game but not a sport .
@@tanner.pickleball as ex college and pro tennis player 40 years ago. I step into the kitchen all the time on my volleys. Lmao. I would rather loose the point than get bad habits for tennis . Your videos are good though.
@@gilbertamthor5098That’s a good point. This just helped me set a new wrinkle in the ol brain. Tennis players playing pickles would benefit greatly from completely disassociating pickleball from tennis. It’s not like tennis at all, (maybe it’s a cheap imitation, that’s beside the point). Approach it like any other sport or discipline you participate in that is not tennis. Compartmentalize each distinctly and you can cross between play, enjoying both pretty successfully. It has worked for me, I just couldn’t quite put a finger on it till now. Nicely done! “Pro” tip: Wear different shoes, a pair for pickles, a pair for tennis sessions… the rest will follow :-)

Of course! Thanks for watching :)
Spot on. @tanner.pickleball keeps it simple. Drill baby Drill.

Great video. Do you adjust your advice at all if player is barely 5 feet tall and playing against very tall players?
Hmmm good question. At this point in time I would not adjust my advice, I’d stay true to the video!

When you snap your wrist to add power if you miss their body wouldn’t it fly out? Like other shots should you only be hitting at 70 or 80% power
No because you’re hitting down!
Really helpful video! Looks like you're using the Perseus more in your videos. Are you preferring it to the Hyperion C2 recently?

Please do a video on why balls go into the net from drives to volleys to dinks.

Does volleying against a wall help with hand speed?
Totally!
Do you backhand volley with an Eastern forehand grip?
Exactly!
What grip are you using here? Continental? eastern? I find when I’m slightly eastern, my right shoulder is vulnerable because it’s harder to switch to my forehand when I need to.
