  • This performance given at the Sage Gateshead by Cory Band under the direction of Robert Childs formed part of Cory's 2008 Brass in Concert programme which saw the reigning European Champions and World No.1 Ranked Band crowned Brass in Concert Champions for the first time in their history.
    Here Louis Prima's Sing Sing Sing is arranged & edited by Dan Price & Barry Forgie providing a real feature for Cory's 2008 percussion team. Dave Danford leads the way on kit, before Alun Horgan, Simon Brittlebank & Gavin Pritchard join with some virtuoso bar stool playing!
    Cory's winning Brass in Concert programme is featured in its entirety on the World of Brass DVD "Highlights from the 2008 Brass in Concert Championship and World of Brass in Concert" available at www.worldofbrass.com

    The chairs kind of make me think of the Beatles using Vacuum Cleaners and backwards running tape recorders and so many other things the people who worked at Apple saw them taking into recording studio. Love the song Sing, Sing, Sing.

  • @sxbrebeatmaking842
    @sxbrebeatmaking842 6 років тому +1

    The chair drumming part is a copy paste of a Top Secret Drum Corps's old show :p

  • @tomskupham
    @tomskupham 5 років тому +1

    How do you write the Drum part? I understand the other instruments , or does the Drummer just listen to a Benny Goodman recording ?

    • @turnitback
      @turnitback Рік тому

      As Michelle Fong suggests, the drum part is improvised. A part is written, but it amounts to little more than a chart of stops, starts and dynamics, and an approximate guide to overall rhythm and position (bar No). The drum part would be inappropriate, and boring in the extreme if played as written. To produce an attractive solo, the drummer will probably ad lib on first run-through, then revise and refine from one rehearsal to the next. S/he will also likely develop and arrange the solo at home. Unless his/her memory is much better mine, s/he may well also write out her own part, at least in skeleton form. By the way, it isn't just jazz parts or solos that need the player to develop and improve what is written. Many parts are intentionally left by the arranger to the drummer. Others are poorly written by brass players. Some, but rather few, are good to play as written. There is much misunderstanding of this in the brass band world. Naive beliefs include that if it isn't played verbatim then it's wrong and incompetent, and that drum kit is easy. If you are a brass player who thinks either of those things, I strongly suggest that you try it

      Symphony No. 417 Realize that in a concert setting your instrumental carriage is not supposed to be the same as in a marching ensemble.

      Bizzle usually in a concert setting you hold your trumpet/ cornet below level so you don’t stick out and overwhelm the sound of the ensemble because this isn’t marching band and where trumpets need to blast over everyone
