In today's job market, finding employment has become a daunting task. The Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates has sent ripples of uncertainty through the economy, leading many companies to adopt a cautious stance on hiring amidst forecasts of a possible recession.
As someone actively navigating this landscape, I understand the frustrations and challenges faced by job seekers. Opportunities seem scarce, competition is fierce, and the constant uncertainty can be disheartening. However, it's crucial to remember that economic cycles are just that - cycles.
While the current environment may seem challenging, there are indicators pointing towards a brighter future. As inflation gradually subsides and interest rates stabilize, businesses will regain confidence, leading to increased investments and job creation. It's a matter of weathering the storm and staying prepared for the upswing.

My mom told me that back in the 80's she went to a job fair and they asked her the question "what kind of person would you describe yourself as?" Her response was "a happy one" and she got hired on the spot. Times really have changed
Did she also blow him. She probably didn't tell you that part....
there was no internet back in 80s so that makes sense.
Unemployment so low because after 6 months people quit looking therefore they are not included in rate.
But the government keeps telling us unemployment is at all time lows. 🤦🏼♂️
this really IRKS me. It's abusive.
Gaslighting!
Unemploment is at a 60 year low.
The jobs are in hotel services, restaurants, plumber, roofers, carpenters!!
software engineering is wayyy over saturated.
And our wages are "too high"
The economy is booming, inflation is coming down, the border is secure, crime is low. Ya right Joe.
After being laid off, I trained to become a lifeguard. It did wonders for my mental health and physical well-being.
Same, manual labor is a key to happier life.
But you make no money gonna do wonders to mental health as you work into your 80.

Agreed
@@Antodyagree to you million times. My friend is plumber in Chicago, makes easily 80-100k / year, after 5’o clock he is free and happy. I’m 30 years in IT industry and full of endless learning, certifications and other b/s.
I'm probably going to leave the tech industry after a 27 year career as a principal software engineer that included a 7 year gig working for NASA. Nothing is available. No other industry really pays as well as tech, but since it's collapsing on itself, I don't think I have any choice. Gotta put food on the table and a roof over my family's head. Good luck to everyone out there.

Taco Bell is hiring immediately.
Flipping burgers at entry level is hiring at $20/hr in California.

Absolutely nothing wrong with working outside your area of expertise. My background is IT. When I was unemployed, I considered dog walking and working at a bakery. I didn't have to go that route, as I eventually got a job in my field, but I seriously considered other options.

The problem is a job posting isn't the same as a job opening. YOUR job is "posted", and your boss is waiting for someone to ask for a lower salary. 7 out of 8 "jobs" aren't "openings".
True. A friend of mine who posted a sales related tech position for the company he works for said that he received about 600 applications. He was floored!
I've been in Talent Acquisition for 16 yrs. I've never seen the market flooded with TA talent! You don't need TA if you're not really hiring. Low paying service roles are all that's out there...or roles for people with less than 5 YOE.
1500 applications, hundreds of out reaches, dozens of interviews and nada! Ghosted at least 15 times. Working 2 PT low paying jobs to bring in something....this economy sucks.
Yeah it’s definitely a tough one. Feels like we’re in a recession without being in one. Hopefully, things improve soon
Economy doesn't suck. Uneducated people are making BANK!

Why Is It SO HARD To Find a Job Right Now > Most of my friends got laid off and no job prospect. It is the reality. High salaries and with a MS degree is even harder to get a job.
Great video. It’s also important to note that since the majority of layoffs have been white collar jobs, most people are living off savings and severance payments instead of filing for unemployment. This continues to give the impression that unemployment is low. Simply filing a UI claim even if you don’t get it or use it will increase unemployment reporting and force the fed to really look at what’s going on.
You can’t file for unemployment unless you have a certain amount in your bank account. Trust me this is something they will say to you. They would rather help non-citizens then they’re own people.
The “American Dream” 🙌🏼
I started working at 12 and I’m 40 . I’ve been a construction worker , housekeeper , nurses aide , truck driver . I’m now entering college for the first time nervous but still staying the course . Now what my main tactic will be once I achieve my degree is to start low than work my way up . If a company won’t give me the job I want I will start from the bottom gaining experience under someone with the job I want . Therefore at some stage either I will get that job from them or someone else . Experience is the key with education it’s more than one way to skin a cat . Stop the expectations of getting a high paying job right out of college . Every field I’ve ever worked required me to work my way toward high pay . Before my accident I nearly worked my way up to one-hundred-thousand a year truck driving with no degree . Now I’m thrusted into an all new scenario forced to start my life over . Find a related field that will give you experience even at a lower pay then wait 3 years . You have to crawl before you walk . Now those are my experiences of 40 years dealing with jobs and navigating them nothing will be handed to you .
Build your company bro.
Nice job 🙌
You sound like you have a great mindset and a lot of work under your belt. You'll do great.
Best comment ever! Stop complaining and start doing to summarize.
Really well explained! Keep up the videos brother
I think it is like any supply/demand problem. Here in Silicon Valley, they clearly overhired. Companies like Facebook and Google were basically warehousing employees so they could claim a stock of technical talent. Many of those people are looking for work now. The valley was in a gold rush mentality, and there was an inflow to the valley. In time, a lot of those people are going to leave, and companies are going to start hiring again. Its going to create a shortage of qualified people, and you'll hear companies complaining about that. Give it about a year to shake out. We have been through this kind of boom/bust cycle before.
Thank you for this. Truly.
I'm experiencing this same issue, and even referrals aren't helpful right now. It wouldn't be so bad if the "cost of living " wasn't so high. It's the fact that I've gone through my savings, which I thought would sustain me until I obtained a position, but I haven't. This job market is going to put me in the streets, but I know, no one cares... most people have their own issues...
I have the same experience, no jobs , no salary, low salary, burn out of searching fo a job...savings are running out...only low paid jobs which noone wants to do are in the offer...it is like this in whole EU! shame!
Love your four advice. ❤
I was tempted to make a layoff video myself. I was laid off as an IT Systems Analyst after 3 years with my previous employer due to an interest rate hike and restructure / merge. Money printing is the cause of inflation primarily, second followed by "corporate greed." Money printing drives up interest rates, and in return companies drive up their prices because their costs go up as well.
Housing goes up because the interest rates go up, cars, food, oil / gas / energy, everything goes up because of interest rates and money printing. Corporate greed is the symptom not the actual problem of it. Never the less, it's difficult to find a good paying job right now. While I am getting interviews, I'm not getting any offers at the moment. I know I will get hired at some point in the future, but that doesn't mean we're not being negatively impacted by the current situation at the moment.
Interest rates are the culprit. Because rates are high, companies cannot use leverage and therefore hire less employees. People spend less and companies have less revenue and therefore need to hire less people. When spending goes down and rates moderate, that's when companies will start to hire again.
having dyslexia Makes the job search so much more harder People do treat your different When they know you can't keep up with others 😢
*People do treat you differently when they... Download Grammary for free otherwise you'll never get the job.
As a highly experienced senior I have had more interviews in the past 6 months than ever before. Companies just know that they can operate leaner with seniors while the economy is tight.
What industry?
Not in my husband's case. Ageism is real when the stakes (salaries) are high.
@@globalfamily8172 Yep. I'm in the same boat I am an engineer with 20+ years experience and can't find anything. Lower level jobs I'm overqualified. Higher level jobs are super competitive and mostly fake postings as they hire from within.
@@globalfamily8172 That's true, but it's not impossible to get hired if you're older. I was hired by a small company that had gone thru a period where a few of their younger employees quit at the same time, which impacted their productivity. They took a chance and went in another direction hiring older workers. It's worked out well on both sides.
@@globalfamily817260 year old senior means "doesn't want to learn"
Not just that due to all the layoffs in tech, they can afford to be picky. I sadly got rejected from a job today. I had to do a test, which I put in a weeks worth of effort. But I still got rejected. If your not in the top 100% even if your 95% you'll get rejected.
Great video, simple and straight to the point. You sound like a good and level headed person. You will find a job for sure. I am myself in my 8 months of job search. Being over 50 adds to the odd for me to find a job. BUT this is life. Nobody owes me, or anybody else for that matter, a living. Life is tough but also a great gift. Keep looking up and forward.
Thank you, and wishing you all the best on your job search, my friend. Hope you'll find something good soon
Yes, I was laid off in January. Tough to network & land jobs to point we burn out & when finally get interview, we don't have enough gas to cram & pass (already 10+).
Then you receive feedback such as "needs more experience with DFS algorithm" even though I was super close to solving w/ right experience to match the role.
It is what it is.
Yeah it's mentally challenging for sure. hoping for the best for you my friend and hope you find something soon

@@Madamchief nope no help here but whatever im almst done looking now peace comes in letting go finally of fear .

This feels so relatable
5:22 the issue here is that the government has decided that they can only lower inflation by increasing interest rates. Interest rates reduce demand. But inflation is a miss match between supply and demand and the value of money. So one way to decrease inflation would be to stimulate the economy through government investment to increase supply. It's a longer term strategy, but the positive thing is that it's more productive and helpful long term, than it is to raise interest rates and basically create an artificial recession. Also, another way of reducing inflation, linked to what yiu mentioned about corporate greed, is to tax back the money tge government spent during COVID. It's kind of wild that inflation is being blamed on workers wages when corporate profits are at all time highs. If there's too much money in the system it should be taxed back from the corporations. But the corporate controlled government would never do that lol.
I changed 5-6 old toilets weekly 🚽 I charged 300-$800 dollars and depends how tough the job is. It’s a dirty nasty job hey someone has to do it, be your own boss and work at your own phase. 😊
Trades!!! Skills are needed. It sucks sometimes but don't all jobs have that? I'm in commercial HVAC myself
Dirty but smart.
People act like interest rates are high, but they are just near historical averages and people just remember the recent ultra low rates. It is more painful now due to asset prices and the ratio between median income and median house price.
I got fired from my accounting job a year ago.And I still can't find a decent job.I don't know where I'm going to work.Since no firm is really hiring right now it is crazy and i'm thankful that my grandma lets believe in her basement

We’ve been looking for work for my fiancé in the chemical engineering field. We both graduated as ChemE’s, although I graduated May of last year and he graduated August. I got accepted into a rotational program. He currently works at a grocery store since November 2023. Still on the hunt for that ChemE job, and we’re now looking more in another geographical area because I’d like to move there next year to work at the plant there, and his parents are also moving nearby to that area at the end of this year. So we’ll at least be closer to his family (he also has a great aunt and uncle that lives in that area, and he’s interned for their company before). Just gotta keep swimming in this cesspool.

Nowadays it's important to get a referral for employment interviews, that's how most people are getting hired. It really increases one's chances well above others. It's a tough, tight, and very competitive market right now.
If you're a pretty girl and blow the boss it helps alot too
I had interview with top 25 company and recruiter said they went with their temporary worker over me
More and more companies are investing in AI and their own LLMs. To compete with others in the product market, they have to lay off more low-performant engineers and they will be replaced by AI as well.
Nobody has faith in the future economy why hire anyone now?

It's even harder when you have a reading disability But I can read it's just very slow What makes it very hard to find a job what understand
This might help. Think of reading the way you might hear someone speaking. Look for words that will work together to form sentences the way you hear people commonly speak. If the words don’t work as they should, start the sentence over and distinguish which words should be used. Take your time with it. The brain works best when calm. Best of luck to you.
