@_Arugula_Salad_ can't even get a sales advisor job, and my response for several retail roles I applied for recently as been silent. I was supposed to get a call if I was hired or not from a retail merchandiser last week let I've been ghosted. Bruh I'm legit so stressed out of mind that I'm struggling to get even part time work now
Yeah, I applied for work, and got ghosted and after about 5-6 months I am being told to reapply to the same job. Like dude you have my application, and can't schedule an interview now? Wtf is that? Also since I am not independently wealthy, I had to get any job, and my work schedule will not accomodate your interview schedule. Oh and when I reach our to your HR, they don't know what to do. Just say apply. I applied for the same job for 2 years in a row just to see if I ever scheduled an interview or was hired. Drum roll... Not 1 offer😂
I've been rejcted by target, starbucks, chick fi a, and a plethora of other jobs that are suppose to be "easy to get" that "anyone can do." If I do get an interview i usually get rejected a few weeks later. I don't get it, its not like I'm applying to be a brain surgeon.
Me To I've Applied to So many jobs out here I got another Rejection letter in my email ✉️ today. Wow I swear I applied to be a cashier they talking about it's not a good fit for me. It feels like will I ever get a job fast. I really need a job so bad in praying things will change in my life ❤❤❤
My office closed down in January and since then I’ve applied to well over 200 jobs. It’s physically and mentally exhausting getting up every single day and sitting in front of my laptop from sun up to sun down. No wonder depression is an all time high.
Its equally as depressing entering interviews, repeating the same sentences over and over again and still get rejected... I got rejected from positions where I was straight up PERFECT for their role...
@@jaycurry742 Are you living with parents still? I was never even able to move out for college. being lower middle class sucked for financial aid I got no aid at all so I went to a state school and commuted. What are you doing now? Have you been working?
Real Question? If you have a Business Degree . . . why not go into Business? Not trying to mess with you or be an ass -- real question -- why not do the thing? Is that not the object of the exercise?
Since December 2022 and to this day, i have applied to a total of 17,823 jobs, all of which got rejected. Mind you i have a Medical Degree and a Masters degree...... Upper jobs reject me for no reason, while the below jobs reject me because i am over qualified. 🙂
It feels like there's a serious hiring freeze going on. I don't trust anything positive the media says about the job market. Too many people are in the same predicament.
I feel you. It’s so bad to the point I have 2 separate resumes. 1 where removed my bachelors degree and it just has my high school along with a bunch of bullshit jobs I’ve had. Another resume where I list my bachelors and only have jobs relevant to my field on it.
You might want to "dumb down" your resume. Depending on how old one is and what field you're applying for, you might also need to drop your H.S./college graduation dates (or delete your educational background altogether) as well as limit your resume to 7-10 years experience maximum.
I’ve pretty much given up on finding a job so I’m gig working full time and looking to sleep in my car until I can scrounge up money to pay off my court ticket so I can join the military. This is coming from someone with almost of decade of retail experience and no criminal record
Bro as a vet dont join the army, DONT go 11B or any combat trade. You won't last. Very few do. I retired after a 4 year infantry contract and both my knees and back is fucked. Most of my friends have some sort of debilitating injury or pain that prevents them from enjoying life; torn ligaments, pain in random places, etc. I personally have compressed spine syndrome and a torn left shoulder labrum. Unless you are willing to go to court, no one of the medical care is covered unless you can prove it was due to your service. If you want a long healthy career in the military stick to a non combat trade.
@@BBb-id9kj Are you older than 42? They increased the military age due to lack to recruits, you might even be able to get in even older with a waiver and if you can pass the physical fitness tests.
worse is when you think you got an interview, I work remote, and go to the Zoom mtg, and it was a bait and SWITCH from the company I had applied to, and I realized this was a BOGUS SCAM after jumping thru all the preliminary hoops to get the interview the endless tests that make you question whether you are a psych experiment for some company. NEVER in all my work history has that happened. It is a heighten way of phishing then scamming. WOW. just BEWARE people and exercise SERIOUS caution cause counterfeiting is REAL right NOW!!!
Thank you for this video-- it's very validating. I've been unemployed for 7 months after I was forced to resign my previous job due to disability discrimination. I don't even want to admit how many applications I've submitted. I've redone my resume format, tailored my resume, applied in my field, outside of my field, contacted recruiters, contacted staffing agencies.. and nothing has worked. I've worked in my field for nearly a decade and now not even retail jobs want to interview me. It's putting so much strain on my relationship since my partner is supporting us on his income that doesn't actually support for two. It's so scary out here. I wish the best for everyone going through it.
My friend gave me a good tip. Search for more intermediate or higher positions rather than entry level jobs, which may be helpful for you, too. There are going to be a lot of new immigrants seeking out all things entry level, so a lot of extra competition. You're more qualified than entry level (as am I) though you may be feeling desperate for work, which is understandable. In my case, she mentioned something with a lot of reading and writing. But I'm actually branching out back to my roots and considering working back in a customer service capacity again. I have a college diploma. Says a lot, doesn't it?
It's like giving free advice to these recruiters, they are sneaky they want to pick your fresh smart college brain, and then you are dismissed, free for them since they already have a well paying job, cuthroats!😮
Absolutely. These people sit at home with their computers instead of engaging with work people. Imagine if you were a coffee shop owner. Would you hire an unknown person who thinks a job comes in a tidy package and wants to complain? Or would you hire the nice kid from down the street who keeps buying the same coffee at their coffee shop? Preferably you'd hire a family member or someone from church. Never an unknown.
The job market is pure trash. It's about who you know, not just the skills that one has. Anyone who doesn't have the connections won't be considered for the job.
I got fired from my teaching job 6 months ago due to needing medical leave (lol) and I’ve been unemployed ever since. I’ve applied to over 100 jobs and I’ve only heard back from ONE job that ended up being a scam. I used to work at Starbucks for 2 years prior to being a teacher, so I applied to many locations as a backup plan. I got denied from ALL of them. This seriously fucked me up so bad mentally. I can’t even get a job at a place I used to work at?? Especially a job that doesn’t require a degree?? I’m seriously at such a loss. I have no connections since I finished my undergrad online due to the pandemic. I’m so lucky to be able to live with my parents during this time but I’m 25, engaged, and feeling the most un-adult I’ve ever felt in my life :(
@@DL-fl5ul Because men have it so hard, huh? :( I’m sorry that you have a hard time getting a woman to like you, sounds like a you problem. This is such a weird, tone deaf comment. Lmao
@@DL-fl5ul That’s interesting, because there are many more women than there are jobs in the world. How sad that you can’t find a single woman to care about you :( Sounds like a you problem. Lmao
I did an application where they wanted a 5 min video response to why do you want to work for us. I saw it half way into the application, so I left some snarky responses. Sure enough, I got a response to my application in a few days saying I wasn't a good fit for their company lmao
I've done snarky responses. "Why do you want to work for us?" - "I need money for heroin". Didn't get a response to that one but I was never gonna get the job anyway.
I recently got laid off my IT Job. I literally can’t find a job for anything. The only thing saving me is Forex Trading for me… I honestly going to trade school at this point.
Yeah, even minimum-wage jobs won’t hire us because they see in our resume that we have a bachelor’s degree, and they think we would leave as soon as we have an oppening in our field (which is true, let’s be honest, but still)
I literally just automate job applications. Hit apply for 50 go to gym and come back and work on side business. If they won't give me time to see my skills and experience why should I put effort into a lengthy application. UPDATE: I actually got a job through this process.
I completely agree with that mindset. Why invest tons of your time into completing some of these frustrating applications, if you don’t stand a chance of getting a callback? I’m going to start doing the same thing.
The company: You need to get more experience. Us: But how can I get more experience if I don’t have a job?! The company: SHUT UP, GET OUT. During Covid the power shifted to the employees but it’s shifted back to the employers with a vengeance
I had a job interview and I later got rejected because I lacked experience in something that wasn't even mentioned on the job description, if I knew that experience was required I wouldn't have applied, they pretty much completely wasted my time.....
Thanks for making this video. I've been struggling... I've worked since I was 16 and I've never had a hard time looking for a job. Unemployment really sucks especially when you've been filling out applications left and right. Good luck to everyone still looking for a job. God bless.
have been in the fight for mths and then found what I thought was the answer,...it was a scam. But yesterday I FINALLY got an offer that is REAL and not starting in June. So many places I applied and talked with weren't looking to have start dates until May and beyond. WHAT? how many people can wait mths to start a job THESE days.
Ive applied to 700+ Degree, experience, willing to take low pay, advanced licenses in my field, applied out of my field, applied across four states. Nothing.
Bro I am going on 4000, still nothing. Even for jobs I literally have years of experience for that are " in demand". In college I was a trim carpenter and cabinet maker, can't even get a job doing that. When I was in the trade, they would hire anyone named Kenneth. Now Kenneth was a special fellow, he didn't do drugs, which makes him extra special. That special fellow somehow managed to feed a 14 inch door incorrectly into a 52 inch machine and damage the thing so bad it was totalled out. Kenneth then managed to somehow destroy a forklift, which nobody is sure how he managed that. Kenneth then somehow managed to drive the box truck into the homeowners kitchen, which I have no idea why he was driving the truck. This was all within 3 weeks of being on the job. Did I mention that Kenneth didn't do drugs, which I think is probably the worst part of the whole story.
I am at 414 job apps after quitting a toxic job that was extremely boring (no window, dim lits in a shared office, colleague yawning the whole day, boss said I could not watch UA-cam on my lunch break, etc etc) and would not have helped me long term. Coming from not America to this being my introduction to the American workplace was a shock at how less freedom there is. I have now had a couple of interviews (some taking 4 hours) and for the most part never hear anything back even after following up. I have only 4 months savings left and if I fail, I will simply leave the US and try again in Europe.
Return to Europe while you still can my friend. I'm an immigrant recently naturalized US citizen and I couldn't want to be out of the US now more than ever. Don't take the bait of other Americans telling you to stay here, it's not worth it bro.
I was with the same company for 8 years making roughly $45 an hour. I busted my ass, worked extremely long days (often going weeks without a day off), but because I was at least making good money I stuck with it. In that time, I didn't get a single raise or promotion despite being one of the company's top performers. I've watched as the company has been mismanaged into oblivion. Pay cuts, two mass layoffs as well as most other veteran employees quitting in droves (I was the only employee in my area at the end), the removal of what few benefits we had, and finally the company deciding to dissolve fulltime positions and only give part time status, even for those of us who'd been around for a long time. Now I'm spending my time doing two hour long pre-employment assessments to stock shelves at Walmart for $16 an hour and not even getting hired there. I just want a fucking job so I can keep a roof over my head, and I only have enough left in my savings to last another month.
I’ve been unemployed for a year now sending 1000s of applications and still no luck and had maybe 3 interviews and got rejected. 😢 i have been so depressed and feeling defeated. I cry every day, lol. I’m lucky to be living at my parents for the time being, but I need stability.
I know why people just give up and live on welfare or self-delete. It's sickening how BS the job search is. So sad. The government really needs to set parameters that employers must adhere to when recruiting.
@@roith_iviimm00 Story of my life as well... But I also managed to score 100/100 in one technical test and outperform 90% of their candidates for another and yet I've still gotten rejected. Applying to Junior/Intern positions - rejected even though I did fit 90-100% of their requirements. Applying to Mid/Senior positions - got higher accept rate with interviews but also instantly rejected due to the amount of experience and skills (basically they wanted the biggest unicorn). Thank you for making this video. So many older people say this generation doesn't want to work but that's not true the job market is confusing right now.
girl you're a small youtuber but i absolutely love your charisma and the way you speak! talking in front of a camera is a true skill and you've rlly got it honestly. hope this prospers for you 🫶🏽
And old people always be like “young people don’t want to work” or they’ll say “get yourself a degree and you should be good” like bro even if I get myself a degree on whatever they’ll reject me either way for not having experience, it feels like they basically expect you to have experience since you were born
I'm 38. Even though that's not all that old, I have a suspicion I'm having a hard time getting jobs because of my age. I've tried to get TONS of entry level jobs in construction, landscaping, painting, warehouses, etc. I don't have experience in any of those jobs, but I've worked in logging for many years, and I know damn well I'm physically capable. My guess is that they want younger guys who are easier to manipulate. I'm not much of a people person, so I'm not trying for retail jobs, customer service, etc. Not my style.
@@yearginclarke I doubt you're being discriminated at 38, it's just the job market. There are just too many applicants per job for employers not to favour people with prior experience.
@@notbloodylikely4817 Yeah I don't know honestly. I just know it's VERY frustrating with the lack of results trying to get jobs. I need a change in my life in the worst way ASAP. It's long since been time to level myself up a little bit. Right now I'm having to resort to paying bills with my credit card because my income isn't high enough. I'm already in debt from last year and now it's getting really bad.
50 is still young. there is no ageism. the truth is very young people are facing the same things. you can always start a business that solves problems. find a way to advertise to those who need it and charge a fee for your solution.
Each job I've landed has become more onerous to service. The hours and workload have become increasingly exploitative. All while the pay has remained too low to live near the job site.
From Toronto- I am crying as I am watching this. Truly feel like the unluckiest person, I am trying to be grateful do i don't end up having to be grateful for the things by losing it. I really just want a part time basic barista or retail job as a student with summer coming up, and these companies keep telling me I am not good enough even though on paper I am. I have gotten a few interviews only to get "we are holding off this position" or "you were so great but.." I just had an interview for a one week temporary job and the interviewer on call told me I sound like a great fit, all smiling and sharing things with me, truly made me feel like I can get at least something else to put on my resume, only to be ghosted by her. I messaged the person stating that I was disappointed at not hearing back even though I was promised I was (and I did it very formally). I got a response but still not a offer. Why is it okay for people like me to go through this? Why are companies getting so greedy...how much fighting do I have to do?
I’ve applied for 100s and I’m 58. I’m literally about to just give up as I can’t pay my bills. I don’t know what to do. I have a degree and yet nothing
I ve been searching for a job for 7 months and nothing, what really worries me is how I´ve come across job where they ask you to have a degree+ experience for just to pay you a bit above the minimum wage
I stopped applying for jobs because of the things you said in your video. It's made me feel depressed and overly anxious about the whole process that I shut down because I don't know how to be enough. My confidence and self worth has taken a hard hit though I'm trying to gain it back. I ended working at warehouse jobs because any other jobs rejected me.
I just lost my part-time job, which has been my only source of income for about 8 months, and Im dreading having to start sending out job applications again.
I am struggling with this right now. I recently graduated, and I am regretting going to college. I am not desirable enough to employers due my “lack of experience” despite having had an internship, having over a year of lab experience all the while being a full time student. Not only that, I am now “over qualified” for retail jobs. They see me as a candidate that will be short-term due to my search for a career, or worry that my degree will make me a “difficult employee” that will have a hard time listening to my superiors without degrees. It seems that I am stuck in graduated purgatory where no one wants to hire me.
Im in your situation too. Atp im just doing what I can. I try to explain to my parents this horrible situation but they keep telling me to “be positive”, and believe me im trying. But this situation is draining
This was eye opening. A bit terrifying, but also a very much needed conversation on what the hell is going on out there. I currently have a part time where I get paid 35% more than the minimum. Which is good, but doesn’t pay the bills. And so I’ve been looking for a second job, but the hunt has gotten exceedingly more difficult. Not to mention that, entry level part time positions require ridiculous standards like full availability?
It’s this a global issue? I’m not seeing result here in Asia. But I keep thinking it’s a me problem. I can’t seem to get past either online assessments or pre-recorded interview stages. I’m also applying to banking. It’s quite demoralising tbh…
Damn, four different people from four different countries/regions around the world saying that they’re having just as much trouble. That’s not scary at all. Best of luck to all of you.
Yep, it's a global phenomenon so it seems. I live in in Hungary and it's the same here and all across Europe. I have been struggling for years now - with 2 degrees in hand, speaking multiple languages, having a professional driving licence, etc. No response whatsoever. And it's the same overseas as far as I can see. I got a trucker friend in Canada (Manitoba) and says his wife and friends are also struggling to get a job.
I've got a 2:1 in economics from a top 10 russell group uni and ive been unemployed for the last 3 years... I can hand on heart tell you I've applied for over 2,000 jobs in the last 3 years and had 3 interviews... One from poundland, one from a warehouse job and one from amazon... I got rejected from all 3, what am I doing wrong?
You will not get hired at warehouses if you have degrees on your resume. I also have a Russell group uni and a 1st so never put that on resumes for jobs where it is not needed
its just luck most of the time, to better my chances I've resorted to applying for jobs in remote small towns. If you're applying for jobs in metropolitan cities like London and Manchester or even Nottingham... good luck
sadly you may have to downplay your academic achievements. Employers DO genuinely get scared that a clever person will become bored with their job. That reveals more about work being tedious and repetitive than the applicant
The UK economy is a joke, I have a downplayed CV where I emphasise my work pushing trollies and working on the building site and still can’t get any job
Im at 400+ and nothing, some meetings but rejected becouse of nothing. Maybe i wanted more then minimal wage so i was too expensive xd i last a year right now
They pay too well for the skill required for the job is the issue. They are super picky now for that reason. It was better when they poaid minimum wage and you had no trouble at least getting some income. Now that they start at $15 min they are super picky.

I feel like it's virtual prejudice to have people answer personality quizzes to be considered for a job. The assessment I honestly think are interview # 1. I swear they're dropping people from consideration when their answers aren't kiss a@@ answers. The virtual interview is very dystopian as well. Isn't it illegal to post a job if they're not even looking for someone to fill the role?? 14:23 = 💯
Even basic jobs require so many interviews or hoops to jump through. Amazon's interview process is so long with hours of loops and a joke. We need to get rid of ATS and all the online gatekeeping. So many online applications require you to type out your entire work history even though it is in your resume. They even want references and past supervisor names and numbers for jobs you held years ago.
Honestly its depressing, its like you have the skills but no one cares unless you know someone...Genuinely thinking about suicide cuz what is the point anymore. Even if i forget my skillset and apply for a "normal/basic job etc in a mall" still no replies.....like its literally impossible. AND LETS NOT TALK ABOUT THE FAKE JOBS THAT WHEN YOU SHOW UP ITS SCAMMERS....OH WE GO OUT AND GET DONATIONS...
Hundreds of applications...handful of interviews. No job. It's been 11 months. Went back to school as an adult and got my BSW bc "everyone needs social workers!" = NOT! Trying to provide for my 3. Still scraping the bottom of the barrel week to week and I have one kid that NEEDS to start college this FALL. I'm now "without experience" for my new degree level and "overqualified" to go back to any other job I've had before that I CAN do REALLY well. I don't know what else to do.

I have spent the past year and a half now, looking for a new job. Literally applying to every place around me, and I can barely get an interview or even a phone call. There's places around me who will even refuse to hire you unless you speak Spanish. And I'm trying to gain more skills and they won't even give me a chance. It's really frustrating that you can't even get a hold of anyone or get anywhere. Especially places like target. You can't even contact a supervisor. The job market sucks. Target did the virtual interview thing and the intentionally asked certain questions to stump you or to automatically disqualify you. How did we get to this point?
I think I got lucky, I started with my company at 25 years old and I’m almost 34 now, and there’s always room to grow within the company. I recently applied to a new role and have a really good gut feeling my interview went well. I will update once I get news Edit May 24: I GOT THE JOB OFFER !!
Thx a million for sharing this! I've heard from many of my friends that there is a generation gap. For instance, younger generations have been passionate and laser-focused on applying for job, but they constantly get rejected regardless of how impressive their resumes and interviews were. Older generations tend to view them as not willing to go to work, and it is their fault for not succeeding in getting hired. What is your take on this?
I feel like I'm getting rejected for being over 40. I don't think it's age...which I did only against my range. But hearing this-I'm now wondering "What IS it?!"
IMO younger people are preferred by employers simply because they are more likely to be gullible/easier to con than older more experienced workers...also you can pay them less per hour (I live in Britain so dont know if thats the same in USA)
I thought it was my age too, but I'm over 60. I think overall unemployment is much, MUCH higher than the government figures show it to be. People across all age groups with various degrees of education and experience are struggling to find even a basic job. I have NEVER in my whole life had a problem getting a job, except after the crash in 2008 and it was hard but not impossible. Today finding a job, ANY JOB, feels impossible although I get up every day and keep trying.
I have a whole BS and certificate, been applying to jobs since my senior year of college because I knew it would take a long. still nothing. Thinking of just starting my own business tbh.
I've been trying but people are not hiring me even though I have over a year of retail experiences. What the heck is it?? I don't understand!!! I am so frustrated.
At this point we need a Universal Basic Income and we're better off just demanding that from our country than looking for a job. Think about it: the country has the money, it gives so much to other countries. A job should be a right yet companies can reject people for any reason (ie despite discrimination laws they can still reject applicants who are a certain race or gender, if they are too old, if a woman is around the age to have kids, or if a woman doesn't wear makeup, etc.) and even the easiest jobs don't pay enough for basic needs. If you think we should hustle and work to the bone for rent and food then that's the problem and sadly the mindset of these companies and arguably our own government l But, we can change that.
Awesome content, this was a seriously informative vid and it's both scary and interesting to see that even the creative fields are getting hit hard as well.
Interesting that you mentioned the personality assessments. I have 40 years of work experience and a degree. I had to take a personality test for an office job answering phones and scheduling appointments for a small sewer company. The assessment said I was "perfectly suited for a customer service role" and yet I still didn't get the job. In the past, that job would have been a slam dunk. I have NEVER seen anything like the job market we are facing today. You also mentioned video interviews. I was sent a link to an interview where you record a video and they only gave me one minute to answer very broad questions. They just wanted to see what I looked like, couldn't even be bothered to do a phone screen. I don't even know what that one paid. Interviewing is supposed to be a two-way street where the candidate gets to ask questions too, but in this market it's like a one-way dead end street. I will say that in my experience everything goes in cycles and things will come back around if we can all just hang in there.
I don't see this get talked about enough in these conversations but another big problem is employers have, for a while now, filtered for applicants who have experience doing the exact same tasks as what the job application's tasks entail. This means that more people are not learning as many new skills as they could, nor does it mean that employers are teaching their employees new skills or giving them opportunities to do it on their dime. So now we have a bunch of people who are heavily discouraged from venturing out and trying new career tracks or even doing something adjacent to that they were doing because the moment they teeter off the linear pathway they become less competitive. I noticed this mostly because I'm a generalist and thus have no real specialty, so finding even entry level work is almost impossible.
The fake jobs are outrageously bad! You need to check the website or call the company. Be sure you can reach a real person before giving all your info. away..
I'm actually ready to off myself. I rather be unalive than go back to being poor. 600 job apps, 5yrs as. React developer and the few interviews i got are ungodly hard, with insane assessments.

You want a job in a matter of days? Work as a dishwasher for a restaurant for some agency or directly with the owner. That helps. It's not a lot, but worth the extra income. Good video, Kate.
A lot of places won't hire a dishwasher that is female (heavy plates) or someone who is older or someone who speaks decent english with no accent- last one because they are afraid you will leave the job for something else.

My friend gave me a good tip. Search for more intermediate or higher positions rather than entry level jobs, which may be helpful for you, too. There are going to be a lot of new immigrants seeking out all things entry level, so a lot of extra competition. You MUST have connections to get a job. You have to know the right people
Anyone who doesn't have the connections won't be considered for the job.

sadly you may have to downplay your academic achievements.
Maybe i wanted more then minimal wage so i was too expensive xd i last a year right now
I can’t even get a job at McDonald’s 💀
Me but Chick Fi A 🤣🤣
@@HanaMarshmallows I got denied by them to 💀
They pay too well for the skill required for the job is the issue. They are super picky now for that reason. It was better when they poaid minimum wage and you had no trouble at least getting some income. Now that they start at $15 min they are super picky.
I was😂 rejected all fast food restaurants
@@Everything2A If its anything like McD in Britain I believe that some places are franchised and have zero hour contracts (where youre employed but NEVER guaranteed any hours of work) where you are at the mercy of them . When I went for an interview at a McDs I asked if the work was zero hour contract and they refused to give a straight answer. Needless to say they didnt go ahead with employing me
I’m 27 and left a chain hair salon about a month ago. Been trying to find a new salon but everyone i interview for is wish washy. Makes you think you got the job or a second interview then tells you the next day that they went with other candidates even though they told you they were short staffed and needed stylist. It’s wild
Women applying for jobs finally get to experience what men get in dating.
@@DL-fl5ul you're posting this under multiple comments. Sounds like someone is mad that they can't get a date and i think i know why
I straight up had a business tell me they don’t generally hire Caucasians as the face of their company (it was a customer service job at the pick-up desk in an auction warehouse). That basically destroyed all remaining confidence I had. I’m a month away from homelessness and I have no idea what to do. I’ve been applying to jobs since July
Edit: spelling
I've applied to literally 1,000 jobs during the last 5 months and have had ZERO offers, and only a few interviews (that went nowhere). I have a Bachelors degree, 6 years of experience, and NOTHIN. SOS. MY SHIP IS SINKING.
yea it’s pretty bad rn there’s a lot going on through da same as u most people need connections which is bad
14:23 = 💯
Companies post jobs that they're not looking to fill to collect data on applicants. There are some UA-cam videos on this topic.
I think it took me 30 applications to get my engineering job.
Even basic jobs require so many interviews or hoops to jump through. Amazon's interview process is so long with hours of loops and a joke. We need to get rid of ATS and all the online gatekeeping. So many online applications require you to type out your entire work history even though it is in your resume. They even want references and past supervisor names and numbers for jobs you held years ago.
guess being a human these days isn't a lucrative career path...
Right. I am a robot. I have steady employment.
Hey, you aren’t alone. I hope things will improve even a little bit for you!
Don’t give in brother
Hundreds of applications...handful of interviews. No job. It's been 11 months. Went back to school as an adult and got my BSW bc "everyone needs social workers!" = NOT! Trying to provide for my 3. Still scraping the bottom of the barrel week to week and I have one kid that NEEDS to start college this FALL. I'm now "without experience" for my new degree level and "overqualified" to go back to any other job I've had before that I CAN do REALLY well. I don't know what else to do.
Score 100/100 on their technical assessment test ?
Not good enough. Rejected.
Score better than 90% of all their candidates ?
Not good enough. Rejected.
Naaaaah this job market is beyond brutal
Thank you for spreading the word! I was starting to think I was the problem.
i cant even get hired as a dishwasher, even tho that company is hiring for months.
A Wisewoman told me one day, this quote, " find something that everyone wants and needs but only a few people know how to do and you'll always fold a dollar."
~ Sincerely, my Mother....
I’m about to graduate and I still don’t have a job lined up… and I have internship experiences.
I'm being told my internship doesn't even count...
I think I got lucky, I started with my company at 25 years old and I’m almost 34 now, and there’s always room to grow within the company. I recently applied to a new role and have a really good gut feeling my interview went well. I will update once I get news
Edit May 24: I GOT THE JOB OFFER !!
It is such BS and very hard. 2000 applications with nothing 😭
🤬 a job, I'm officially done jumping through hoops to get NOWHERE!
ATS-applicant TRASHING system
Lol so true
I’ve been looking for another job for a year now. I get interest from the recruitment agencies but not their clients
Bachelors Degree as of December 2023, still can find anything :/
That's harsh
You HAVE to lie on your Resume now. You shouldn't feel bad about it because the companies are lying to you.
Sorry to hear how rough it is . Pray even if you don’t feel like it and If you’re in America always make sure to cast a wide net to many states and be willing to move .
It’s crazy out here and you can be highly qualified and still don’t get the job!!!!
with the mass layoffs there are too many highly qualified candidates so lots of competition.
Had to drop college and now im on 2 years of being unemployed. I have nothing bad on my record, no drugs either. Ive only has one job for a month or 2 and left because of the manager fluctuating pay amd later jailed. No criminal record. Is it just i look terrible in their eyes? Need more experience?(even tho most jobs say no experience needed and urgent hire) idk maybe just im not meant to exist anymore in this world because everything is getting worse. I can barley live, i get screwed on a payment for a pc i wanted to build my future so i just think im the joke that needs to end at this point
maybe get some training or community college degree in trades that are in demand? Yes, having one job for a month does look pretty bad on a resume.
Life feels doomed
Thanks to AI.
I'm getting 1 interview for every 20 to 30 applications.
That's extremely good
You want a job in a matter of days? Work as a dishwasher for a restaurant for some agency or directly with the owner. That helps. It's not a lot, but worth the extra income. Good video, Kate.
And if it's a great restaurant dishwashers always get the best food ,mu college days I saw this all of the time, and dishwashers work hard@
A lot of places won't hire a dishwasher that is female (heavy plates) or someone who is older or someone who speaks decent english with no accent- last one because they are afraid you will leave the job for something else.
I have a list of skills with experience from trade schooling that is about 60 pages thick (I'm not exaggerating) and I can't even get hired for a gas station job, I'm litterallt about to lose my home, I can't drive becuase it's illegal to drive without insurance, and my phones about be cut off. There's nothing I can do about it.
thanks for that video. its nice to be not alone. but im loosing my mind...im unemployed for like a half a year by now, my bank acc is shrinking but i need to pay rent. i got like 2 months left before i gotta pack my bags. im scared
4 years here. Homeless next month. I've been freelancing which is a whole other horror story.
3 years here jobless
The first thought that came to my mind with when watching this video is one, it's been about 2 weeks now since I last applied for a job and 2, if I had to guess I probably only applied to 200 jobs at least last year and got one job interview out of it.
While I could go onto a speal about what I think about this whole dev job market, I'll spare the wall of text. Great video, got a few new bits of info, new subscriber here!!
I have a bachelor's degree in Architecture and drafting, had a summer job in construction, worked for 3 years as a drafter, and was consistently the top performing drafter at my last company. I'm 200 applications deep and have been rejected from every drafting position I've applied to. And can't even get a first interview for any construction jobs.
There’s too many people applying for the same few jobs… and a lot of the time the company is not even filing the position
Watching this after I literally just left a job site and was told to show up for an interview and nobody was there. Literally can’t get a response for the hiring manager. They literally reached out to me and said they like my resume and want to do an interview.
I'm so sorry to hear that :/ how incredibly frustrating, disappointing, and disrespectful to your time
