Really appreciated your extended showing of the Yeoman Warder. They are all retired warrant officers (sergeant majors) in the British Armed Forces and most live in houses within the Tower. They are all great raconteurs and, whichever takes you on the tour, excellent guides.

True! It is also my understanding that it is of great privilege for the very few retired non commissioned personnel who actually get to be a Yeoman Warder. If you noticed during the Queen's funeral, the Yeomen did walk the procession. These are not just tour guides, but actual retired armed forces personnel, who assist in guarding the Tower, as I understand it. As you probably saw and know, outside of the crown jewels hall stand at LEAST two highly armed, armed forces personnel with automatic weapons. And yes, they can and will spring into action if required as I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone!). That is why your Yeomen was loud and proud. They are retired armed forces personnel who know and respect their positions, and are there to help you understand the Tower, and the history of the Tower. Your Yeoman Warder was fantastic! They are all different, and may tell you variations of what they know. What a tour! Highly recommend. And yes, they DO live in quarters on site and are on guard duty at times. That is why your Yeoman was talking about being on duty during the evening, and felt a chill go down his neck near the entry of the Traitor's Gate ... (he stated he did not believe in ghosts). They also have their own pub on site within the walls. I hope your Yeoman showed you that! Cheers, and thanks for all that you do! Also, if I'm wrong, I hope people who are in the know, help correct what I typed ... (-:

If you plan to visit all the castles and cathedrals you'll need several months minimum, there have been over 4 thousand castles in England alone with 800 still having visible remains. If you include historic houses and antiquities such as standing stones or circles then you'll need two lifetimes.

I absolutely love the way you chose to see London, you did everything right, no rushing about, just stopping for pints and sitting down at restaurants. London can be overwhelming, but if you stop rushing and trying to do everything straight away and just stop and look around and take it all it, it can really be quite magical. You can see new cities or old cities but where else can you see a 500yr building almost right next to a new hyper modern glass skyscraper, I just can't get enough of london

I'm English but don't live in London but have visited many times. London is fabulous and has loads of famous history which needs a long time to get round. I've never been to the tower of London unfortunately, but your video showed me a bit more than I've seen on some television documentaries. That meal towards the end of this video looked amazing, the chicken looked very good but the steak had me salivating ... yum yum. I often walk past the Tower and that's exactly what I always think. What must the city have looked like when it was built? What would all the people that were around then, and in the many centuries since, think about London now and everything that has happened in between? And what will it look like in another 1,000 years? That's why history is so fascinating and you did a great job of capturing it.

A thousand years ago, Norman London looked totally different to Roman London (Londinium) when they left 600 years before that. A completely walled city that had been partly taken down in places and many of the buildings, most in decay by Norman times, so the brick and stone (Roman Concrete as well, broken up) could be used.

Just discovered your channel and it is my new binge watch! You are such a nice couple and it warms my heart to hear how much you like my country/ capital city. I grew up about 2-3 miles from the tower and went there regularly when I was a child. Seeing your film it hardly seems possible that at that time was allowed to touch and play with most of the exhibits that are now behind glass. This was true until the early 1970's when someone planted a bomb within the armoury and everything was made more secure.

I love it when Americans visit my country. Their enthusiasm is so infectious and you both bring a great deal of this to your video. I suppose London is a great draw to foreigners but it's hardly experiencing English culture, a bit like me visiting Los Angeles or New York. The difference is of course your own Country is multicultural from it's inception and the UK has only been multicultural for about 50 or so years. London, being one of the most cosmopolitan places on earth so I don't think you had a single meal that was truly English including our famous Breakfast which was probably your most obvious omission. Please, please return and do another series, I would highly recommend you toured around Cornwall, The Lake District and Scotland and spent as much time in the rural areas of Britain where most of our culture, food, way of life and indigenous people now reside. happy travels!

What a brilliant vlog! You've taken be to bits of the city where I live where I haven't been before!
I like your point that you should have done the boat trip at the beginning - when we go to new locations in Britain we haven't been to before, we do a sightseeing tour on the first day (a lot of places have those sightseeing buses).
This has several plus points - you can sit down and have a rest after travelling without wasting time in the hotel room; it helps you get your bearings in an unfamiliar location; and as you say the guide gives you suggestions of where to go

As Dr Johnson once said “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life, for there is in London, all that life can afford” - I have lived in and worked in “London” all my life and whilst I have been to all the usual and major “tourist attractions”, there are places and museums that I have yet to visit! It is fascinating seeing my home town through “your eyes” and seeing your interest and delight at things we just take for granted because they have “always been there”!
I haven’t been to the Tower or climbed inside Tower Bridge for about 30 years, haven’t done a river trip either for the same amount of time and have always lived in a town close to the River and could have easily just jumped on a boat to go to Westminster!
I have visited most of the Museums but have never visited the Victoria & Albert (V&A) or the Tate Modern and I haven’t even gone shopping in Harrods Department Store!
When you do next visit, try to come to ‘my’ part of England, whilst I live in the County of Kent, it is actually on the borders of Greater London - a 30 minute train time journey - and there is so much to see and do in the County. Greenwich is also a “must visit” (place of my birth!) - the National Maritime Museum, the Observatory, the Royal Naval College, the tea clipper The Cutty Sark, a beautiful park and - most importantly the Meridian Line - home of GMT - Greenwich Mean Time! As Greenwich is on the River Thames, you can get a boat FROM Westminster Pier to Greenwich!
Hope you can visit again soon 🙂xx and I will look forward to your next visit here and vids about your travels xx

Gratifying to see you've been enjoying, and learning about our endlessly fascinating city. I was born here 70 years ago, and having tried 3 times to relocate elsewhere - here I still am, still enjoying the vast variety of life in "the Smoke", as London used to be called.
The Tower of London is one of those "must see" places definitely worth the entrance fee. (I think right now America could do with its' own "Traitors Gate" for 45 and his cronies!)
Ahem! - The Thames is pronounced "Tems", not "Taims". Sorry, but I just can't help it - my hackles rise every time you say "Taims"!
    Happy travels, folks.

You're incorrect in your conclusion that I commented on "others politics". I simply made an off-the-cuff, and lighthearted comment about your ex-President. The comment I made may (I suppose), suggest to you what is my own political stance, but I implied nothing about "others".
As for what you "think is improper for this channel" - well we're both free to have our own opinions, and really neither are of great importance. Are you perhaps positioning yourself as some sort of moderator?
To use a modern idiom, "Geez, lighten up!"
(May I add, I've never heard of the UA-cam comments section referred to as, "polite society"!).
Wishing you too, a very good day.

Your commentary and obvious interest in the history make your videos a cut above the rest, keep up the good work.

Nice to have two such cheerful and appreciative people report on London. May I just very gently advise that Thames is pronounced "tems" but hey, hearing it "tames" just added that authentic American tourist flavour to really ensure I got to look at where I live through a fresh pair of eyes!😏 Glad you enjoyed your time here...

It's why I looked at the comments too. It really does make sense, the way they're pronouncing it (as it's spelt).... but it's 'The Tems' to each and every Brit. They're both really natural, effortless vloggers though....subbed.

I’m a Londoner born and bread and I totally agree with you. I’ve been to many cities across the world and nothing compares to London. It has everything and is truly special.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧⚔️

Lovely to see and reminds me how magical it is to visit a city one has travelled to before in dreams. I recall being in Venice for the first time almost 30 years ago - at the time I was living in London myself.

Just been there yesterday and had the same type of tour! It seems slightly different though, we were told about two of Henry the 8ths wives far more that died in the Tower of London and I don’t think the two boys were mentioned nor the gun powder plot but it makes sense they change the tour up every now again!
    Super interesting!
Feels so cool to see you guys somewhere that I was yesterday 😊

Great interesting and entertaining video. Just to add, in case you didn't know, that a Royal Air Force pilot, Alan Pollock, on the 5th April 1968 flew a jet fighter between the upper and lower spans of Tower bridge. This was totally unauthorised and it was his way of protesting against the government of the time and their actions on defense cuts and other things.

I work at Tower Bridge and go home from Waterloo Station :) so was nice to see the places I see everyday but from the point of view of where tourists like to go and eat. Will be sure to check out The Chop House. Never been in there. Safe travels. See you on the next one

Should have got the boat in the opposite direction to Greenwich. Some beautiful old naval buildings, Cutty Sark and the observatory with the zero line that Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is taken from. My favourite part of London.

Really enjoyed your London videos. Great tips and pointers for visitors. Took me a few days to get to grips with the underground when I started using it. The river is spelt Thames but pronounced Tems and Big Ben is the largest bell at the top of the Elizabeth tower.
Looking forward to your videos on the next visit.

Have loved watching your London trip.., I’m a country girl from the north of England and I love London but only get there maybe once a year. I’m not sure if you’d be able to get it in the US but there was a great documentary TV series in the UK based at the Tower of London showing the ‘behind the scenes’ life of the Yeoman Warders’ - I think you would really enjoy it
