Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon had such great chemistry in everything they were in together. Burgess Meredith (Mick!) stole every scene he was in. I always lol watching his outtakes during the credits. RIP to all 3 legends!
When I was a teenager 4 generations of my family sat down and watched this one Christmas and everyone was laughing. From people in their 80s and 90s to 9 and 10 yr olds everyone was laughing and having a great time. A movie that can entertain 4 generations like that is something very special.
This is the most special kind of friendships. Pranks, and mental sparring. Not fake pleasantries. They have fun, and when the chips are down, they are there for each other.
Older people pranked hard. My grandpas friend got him good once. When my grandpa told him he wanted the whole care painted a certian color he was teasing him if he understood or if that was to hard to understand. Well he painted the whole car the color he wanted like my grandpa said, yes the whole car including windows windshield, back window rims and tires. Back then the pranks were real
Matthau and Lemon did 11 films together spanning 30+ years. Their comedic timing with each other is perfection and then add on Burgess Meredith (Mick) and you get two of the best comedies made in the 90's. I Love this movie, it never gets old. I have watched it more times than I can count, still laugh at every gag, and the friend or family question gets me choked up every time. After you watch "Grumpier Old Men", everyone will suggest to watch "The Odd Couple" and it is an excellent movie, but a hidden gem with Matthau and Lemon is "Out to Sea", absolutely hilarious.
Back in the day you never had a remote control family? Immediate Family: Remote for the TV Remote for the cable box Remote for the vcr/DVD player Extended family: Remote for second vcr Remote for stereo Remote for a fan ceiling or otherwise Remote for the old TV that's broken Remote for small kitchen TV that always ended up in the living room with the other remotes...
Ann-Margret... one of the sexiest talented actresses/performer of all time. She goes all the way back to the sing/act/dance triple threat days of Hollywood. ❤️❤️❤️
My father almost died laughing at this movie. I'm not lying. He had just eaten a handful of popcorn and started laughing. Then he choked. My mother was in the medical profession (retired) she had to give him CPR. Needless to say...they are both alive and still kicking.
It unfortunately got edited out of this version but the monologue Hub gave the teens in the store was one of the best out there in my opinion. This movie will always be one of my favorites. It really didn't get the recognition it deserved.
These two gentlemen were a match made in heaven, everything they've done together has been gold from The Fortune Cookie in 1966 to The Odd Couple in 1998 and everything in between. They weren't always co-stars either, Walter was in a few movies that Jack directed aswell.
One ABSOLUTE life lesson I learned from this movie ( besides the fact these two are brilliant together, watch them in The Odd couple) is this: NEVER trust your best & oldest friend & ALLWAYS check your car for fish!
"The Great Race" is a classic Jack Lemmon movie along with "Some Like It Hot." His character Professor Fate is one of the best roles by Lemmon. I don't know why he never played "The Joker" on older Batman shows. He had a huge smile and cackle. Burgess Meredith in the "Twilight Zone" episodes he starred in are worth looking up, too.
I love my homie’s sense of humor, he is just straight up hilarious when he’s commentating on the movies. He makes me laugh every time I’m watching his videos.
I'm willing to bet you laughed your butt off watching them go back and forth at each other. The sequel is just as good. Can't wait for this reaction. 😁
Burgess Meredith (Mick) takes it to another level in Grumpier Old Men. Another must see is The Odd Couple ll. If Walt and John took a road trip together you'd get odd couple.
Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau were American treasures, and these are some of the funniest movies out there. A friendship like this in my old age is a life goal for sure.
Having grown up in Minnesota, I can attest to how frigid the winters are. Ice fishing is big, because it's an excuse to drink the boredom of the long winters away. (There's a reason why the Hazelden Clinic is in MN: long winters = alcoholism.) I am SO glad that you saw this, and your reactions brought me so many giggles. The casting was top notch, and the dialogue was fantastic. I particularly liked the kindness that ran as an undercurrent in this movie, and how -- despite their feud -- they were kind to each other's kids. I'm already looking forward to your reaction to "Grumpier Old Men". Another wonderful reaction! 🙂
Mr. Wilson from Dennis the Menace and Coach Buttermaker from “Bad News Bears”, which needs to be on your list if you haven’t seen it already. Another amazing film he’s in is “Fail Safe” from 1965, so fucking good.
This was one of the last films I watched with my grandpa before he passed. It will always be near and dear to me because of that but I always enjoyed this one in the past anyhow.
@EOM was a fun treat to see you @JL to enjoy one of the last gems from two HOF actors who are loving it, loving hamming it up, and enjoying "the last hurrah" of their magnificent careers.
One of the best comedy duos ever in film and Burgess Meredith combined made this a classic. Loved your reaction and Blanks editing as always. Can’t wait to see your genuine laughter to the sequel and it’s outtakes!
30 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR! 😊THEY WERE GREAT FRIENDS AND WE LOST THEM BOTH , TRUE CLASSIC ACTORS AND MADE LOTSAAAAA GREAT FILMS! 😊R.I.P. 🙃 TO BOTH JACK AND WALTER
A cast of legends! Lemmon and Matthau: perfect apart, even more perfect together.....Ann-Margret: so talented, so beautiful, so special.....Ossie Davis: talent and charisma by the ton......and Burgess Meredith: for almost seventy years one of the most truly gifted actors on stage, screen, or television. Everything he did was better because of him.
Oh I forget Quincy Jones' name all the time. I've been a fan of him ever since Sanford and Son and I usually have to look him up, like I did this time 🙄 THIS is how you introduce great actors to new audiences! These films are a master class in Advanced Petty 101 😄
Walter Matthau & Jack Lemon were best friends in real life. That chemistry carried over to the films they made together. If you think Ann Margaret is a cougar, you should see her when she was young. Check out Bye Bye Birdie or if you dive into Elvis films, Viva Las Vegas.
Love these two together and love them separately. I could not wait to see which one you said "he ain't S**t. I was betting it would be Walter, I was wrong🤣
The "cougar" is Ann- Margaret who, in her youth, starred in a movie with Elvis. Melanie's husband is a poop head in "Thelma & Louise" and " Happy Gilmore".
Ann-Margret (Ariel Truax) is a famous actress from back in the day. Check out Viva Las Vegas (with Elvis) and Bye-Bye Birdie. She was absolutely gorgeous in the 1960's. She held up really well too.
My boys think it’s corny but I LOVE these movies. Both the first and second one. Especially POPS and the nonstop petty mess ahahaha. You gotta see the second one too.
Love this movie - the Chemistry between these two guys is absolutely legendary. A lot of people say the Odd Couple was their highpoint but I really think it was this movie. The sequel is also worth checking out even though it gets unfairly hated on. Also sad factoid is the sequel is Meredith Burgess' last film before he passed away.
Thank you for wearing that Devastator shirt. Brings back memories. P.S. There is a great movie with Walter Matthau and Ossie Davis (Chuck) called 'I'm Not Rappaport' which is also worth a view.
Burgess Meredith is Mickey from Rocky he was also great in a horror movie called "Magic" from 1978 promoted in Rocky 2 during the running sequence. He also played The Penguin on the 60's Batman TV show.
That "Cougar" is Anne Margret. Check her out in the Elvis Presley movie "Viva Las Vegas". She's gorgeous at almost 80yrs old even now, but back in the day......OMG! She could have made me switch teams, lol. BTW: You MUST follow this up with Grumpier Old Men!
These movies are in my top 5 lol the chemistry and the dialogue is so special to me. I worked in assisted living for 17 years, seeing these gentleman cut up and talk shit reminds me of many of gents I took care of. So many stories and actually watching pranks being played out was always a joy ♥️
That's a classic I was in 10th grade when I saw this. But have seen multiple older movies with them as kid hanging out with the grandparents just as good.. That vehicle is a 70s model international
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon are the main actors in here. They also starred in The Odd Couple, another stellar movie. They also had small roles in JFK but didn't have any scenes together. Mickey from Rocky is played by Burgess Meredith who also played Penguin in the 1960's Batman television show.
You absolutely have to see part 2 (it's outtakes are great). If you want to see the in their prime, Lemmon and Mathau in The Odd Couple and watch Ann Margret in Viva Las Vegas.
The guy playing the old dad was Berges Meredith. He was so awesome in both grumpy old men movies and actually was struggling with advanced dementia in the second one. His out takes ate the best part of the movies, in my opinion 👍🤣💯.
Him having an alarm set just to remind him about his TV prank is just next level trolling. These movies mean so much to me. My dad and I still get together and watch them every year.
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon had such great chemistry in everything they were in together. Burgess Meredith (Mick!) stole every scene he was in. I always lol watching his outtakes during the credits. RIP to all 3 legends!
Burgess will always be my Penguin 🧐 RIP
Camp Wannalickydicky! Hahaha
4 Legends RJ - You forgot Ossie Davis. Not as much of a prolific actor as Matthau Meredith or Lemmon but certainly as much of a legend just the same
Have you seen "Out to Sea" I think it was their last movie together. Dyan Cannon, Brent spiner(data from star trek) Hal Linden, funny movie
the legendary Ossie Davis not as prolific? In what world was he not as prolific?
The old man is Burgess Meredith. He was the trainer in Rocky. He passed away at age 100.
'You look good with two eyes'
- MurderWhistle (2023)
When Walter Matthau says, “… Friend” - One of those rare moments in film that makes me weep every time.
He put all his talent and skill into that one word.
When I was a teenager 4 generations of my family sat down and watched this one Christmas and everyone was laughing. From people in their 80s and 90s to 9 and 10 yr olds everyone was laughing and having a great time. A movie that can entertain 4 generations like that is something very special.
Same here. Three generations in my family watched it and we all laughed the whole time.
I love this!
RIP, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.
They made this movie hilarious from start to finish.
They are also great in The Odd Couple 🤓
Rest in peace Burgess Meredith. " Buddy, Buddy ".
9:08 "Grandma candy" 😂😂
Weird how true and almost universal that description is, at least for us Americans.
This is the most special kind of friendships. Pranks, and mental sparring. Not fake pleasantries. They have fun, and when the chips are down, they are there for each other.
Older people pranked hard. My grandpas friend got him good once. Well he painted the whole car the color he wanted like my grandpa said, yes the whole car including windows windshield, back window rims and tires. Back then the pranks were real
"Oh it's different in Minnesota."
Speaking as a Minnesotan, yes. Yes it is. This movie is hella accurate. XD
Matthau and Lemon did 11 films together spanning 30+ years. Their comedic timing with each other is perfection and then add on Burgess Meredith (Mick) and you get two of the best comedies made in the 90's. I Love this movie, it never gets old. Love Out To Sea! With Brent Spiner. ❤️🥰😄
I second that. Out to Sea, I love the set up. Dyan Cannon is just so sweet.
"Other dancers may be on the floor. Dear, but my eyes can see only YOU!"
Back in the day you never had a remote control family?
Immediate Family:
Remote for the TV
Remote for the cable box
Remote for the vcr/DVD player
Extended family:
Remote for second vcr
Remote for stereo
Remote for a fan ceiling or otherwise
Remote for the old TV that's broken
Remote for small kitchen TV that always ended up in the living room with the other remotes...
This is authentic male friendship! Give each other crap all the time but the love is deep.
And THAT is what you do after sauna. Ask any Finn 😊
Ann-Margret... one of the sexiest talented actresses/performer of all time. She goes all the way back to the sing/act/dance triple threat days of Hollywood. ❤️❤️❤️
I like how max is in his 70's and still calls him Mr Gustafson...that's respect.
60+ years Frenamy...'cause Dad knows!
If there was ever a movie tailor-made for your giggles, this is it.
My father almost died laughing at this movie. I'm not lying. He had just eaten a handful of popcorn and started laughing. Then he choked. My mother was in the medical profession (retired) she had to give him CPR. Needless to say...they are both alive and still kicking.
28:34 It IS a puppy! That little Westie blended in with snow, I've never seen puppy there before!
It unfortunately got edited out of this version but the monologue Hub gave the teens in the store was one of the best out there in my opinion. This movie will always be one of my favorites. It really didn't get the recognition it deserved.
He is going to be living with Mortimer and Randolph from Trading Places.....hahahahahaha I love how you reference other movies in your reactions.
Holy sht it's Daryl Hannah! Ain't she the one who got her eye snatched out? Pure gold 🤣
Man…. You have to watch the sequel to this!!! These 2 are Hilarious as Hell!!
I worked at a movie theater when this came out so I've seen the end credits a million times and it still cracks me up.
These two gentlemen were a match made in heaven, everything they've done together has been gold from The Fortune Cookie in 1966 to The Odd Couple in 1998 and everything in between. They weren't always co-stars either, Walter was in a few movies that Jack directed aswell.
"Looks like Chuck is taking the old skin-boat to Tuna Town" 😆😆
29:00, You have to wonder how many times the dad had to break up their fights over the last 50 years-LOL
One ABSOLUTE life lesson I learned from this movie ( besides the fact these two are brilliant together, watch them in The Odd couple) is this: NEVER trust your best & oldest friend & ALLWAYS check your car for fish!

Matthau to Kevin Pollak: The script sucks kid, I owe my bookie two million 😆😂😅
Burgess Meredith (Mick) takes it to another level in Grumpier Old Men. Another must see is The Odd Couple ll. If Walt and John took a road trip together you'd get odd couple.
I must say this film is like a warm blanket and a glass of old scotch, even after 30 years of seeing this film it still brings genuine joy.
Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau were American treasures, and these are some of the funniest movies out there. A friendship like this in my old age is a life goal for sure.
Two American Icons…I saw this when I was 12 with my Pop Pop and it’s a memory I cherish…never heard him laugh that hard…especially at Burgess Meredith
Sequel Grumpier Old Men is great too. With legendary Sophia Loren.
I think it maybe even tops this one. A classic either way
Walter Mathau amazing in Bad News Bears 1976..and yes he was Mr. Wilson in Dennis The Menace.
i just gotta say... your babies sleeping next to each other with their faces smooshed together was mighty distracting - but i ain't mad 😂😍🥰🙌
THE OUTTAKES IN THIS ONE ARE GOLD. GOLD SIR.
Can’t wait to see your reaction to this!! Part 2 is a must!
Oh wow, I love these two. You gotta watch Grumpier Old Man too. I forgot how much I've missed these crazy old men and yes, that the guy from Dennis.
For classic old actors such as these gentlemen, movie such as these are the best ways to be remembered in my book.
The Grandpa (Burgess Meredith) in this movie was fk'ing hilarious, especially in the outtakes 🤣
When he talks about showing the lady his "spicy bologna" and his "cannelloni" at the store, I just lose it.
@@dgeneeknapp3168 🤣
This movie reminds me of my grandparents R.I.P. Just Because they too loved it so much.

The Odd Couple movie.
That's where I first saw them paired together.
Still my favorite pairing of them.
Walter Matthau & Jack Lemon were best friends in real life. That chemistry carried over to the films they made together. If you think Ann Margaret is a cougar, you should see her when she was young. Check out Bye Bye Birdie or if you dive into Elvis films, Viva Las Vegas.
These two actors are the original "Odd Couple" actors.
Love these two together and love them separately. I could not wait to see which one you said "he ain't S**t. I was betting it would be Walter, I was wrong🤣

The grandma candy comment is so on point. My grandma always had werthers caramels on her
Those are 100x better than the strawberry ones he mentioned(which I recall vividly seeing lots as a kid with grandparents lol)
Ann-Margret (Ariel Truax) is a famous actress from back in the day. Check out Viva Las Vegas (with Elvis) and Bye-Bye Birdie. She was absolutely gorgeous in the 1960's. She held up really well too.
Dude, I'm so happy you are doing this movie. This is one of my all time favorite films.
The outtakes in part two are just as amazing!
My boys think it’s corny but I LOVE these movies. Both the first and second one. Especially POPS and the nonstop petty mess ahahaha. You gotta see the second one too.
Burgess Meredith as the dad was hilarious.
28:32…same dog I have, a Westie…awesome dogs

Correction: First name: Burgess, Last name: Meredith. 😉
@@CinWin516 good catch I always make that mistake. Swear it just has a better ring to it lol
@@tcarr6575 LOL
You can tell they had hella fun making these movies.
Honestly the bloopers are the best thing of the whole movie! 😂🤣😅😅😆
Love this movie! As for Darryl Hannah, you have to see her in Splash! Great movie
Thank you for wearing that Devastator shirt. Brings back memories. P.S. There is a great movie with Walter Matthau and Ossie Davis (Chuck) called 'I'm Not Rappaport' which is also worth a view.

The ex-son-in-law was in Happy Gilmore. If you haven't seen that, you definitely should. That's another really funny movie. Great reaction.
31:33 No, that's Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore.
That "Cougar" is Anne Margret. Check her out in the Elvis Presley movie "Viva Las Vegas". She's gorgeous at almost 80yrs old even now, but back in the day......OMG! She could have made me switch teams, lol.

The thing is, everybody knows someone like this. That is why this movie has become a classic.
the way your face lit up when Burgess Meredith showed up on screen. I miss Mic too, my friend.
Love the reaction, one of the best outtakes of all time. Part 2 is a must and I highly recommend more Jack Lemon with My Fellow Americans
Yes! My Fellow Americans is highly underrated!
With James Garner!
Love this movie...
Burgess Meredith. A legand. His outtakes as the super old man is sooooo freakin funny!
Legendary cast, cannot wait for this one! I'm so glad this gem is making the reaction rounds.
Anne Margret was discovered by George Burns but made famous by Elvis's "Viva Las Vegas".
That's a classic I was in 10th grade when I saw this. But have seen multiple older movies with them as kid hanging out with the grandparents just as good..
That vehicle is a 70s model international
Both myself and my mom love this movie. As well as grumpier old men. Its one of those movies that brings back memories of my childhood.
'Buddy Buddy' was another film they starred in together
So happy you did this movie. I’m from Minnesota. Not many people react to this movie.
She was saying her name is Ariel Truex. And I believe you got Daryl Hannah confused with Uma Thurman, although, they both were in Kill Bill.
I noticed you mention that now she has two eyes. I guess you didn't get the two of them mixed up.

Rolling around in the snow after coming out of a hot spa isn't "crazy", it's actually a thing. People in Scandinavia do it.
Of course see part 2. The "Odd Couple" was the original Goat with them.
What a great classic. Absolutely love this movie
You have definitely gotta watch the sequel. Also should check out My Fellow Americans with Jack Lemmon and James Garner.
like you said, we all need a mickey in our lives lol
Always love your enthusiasm in your vids, THANKS! I know you'll love Matthau in Bad News Bears 😂😂😂
You are my FAVORITE Reactor, by far. Your dogs crack me up, too. “The Odd Couple” (1968) is this duo’s GREATEST film together. 💜🍸
When I saw you were gonna do this one I knew your reaction was gonna be epic Jay 👍
