Our Favourite Street food in Cambodia is Bahn Chiao. It is similar to but not the same as the Vietnamese dish Bahn Xeo. It is a yellow rice pancake made from a rice batter with vibrant yellow turmeric. It can be filled with many fillings like Pork, Prawns, Fish, Bean shoots and a truck load of fresh herbs!! It is eaten with a dipping sauce made from fish sauce, lime and palm sugar and it is addictively delicious!!!
We did not get to eat Bahn Chiao in Phnom Penh but we did have a feast of it in Siem Reap!!!
Phnom Penh has long been known as a food lover's paradise. Nice video, thanks for sharing! If you are ever in the mood for Mexican food I would highly recommend Mexicano Riverside, which oddly enough, is on the riverside, on the ground floor. There's a bar above it called The Hideout Sports Bar, so if you see that, your in the right spot. I have been to the Mexicano many times and they never disappoint. Cheers from Texas

I think that Bahn Chaio place they're selling in the afternoon start around 1:30pm - 5:00pm. Some Cambodian we eat like afternoon snacks. There are a lot place that you can try good Bahn Chaio.

There's a place on the other side of Phnom Penh across the river in Chroy Changva. It's a restaurant at the Mekong River front. They only sell Banh Chiev. It looks like a resort but just a restaurant at the river front. You asked where the clothes came from. She said they came from Korea.

@vintagefoodfarm you pronounce like Vietnamese. Cambodian pronounce Banh Chiev. Vietnamese is made with a lot of oil. Cambodians use very little oil. However, banh chiev is all about the dipping sauce. The vegetables are mostly not sift vegetables. For instance, I'd rather use cabbage instead of lettuce to wrap banh chiev. As you know, Vietnamese use rice paper. You don't see that in Cambodia.

I know a place that has Ban Chow everyday. It's a lady with a food stall at Tuol Tompoung market.
There's also a family that makes Ban Chow across the sewer/river and like at the end of the market in the street. They have these octopus free takoyaki looking balls that are delicious as well. Not sure what they are called as Google translate is horrible with Khmer language.
And the other place is on the other side of the river by the soccer hotel.
Aaand the other place is by tol kork market, however every time I go to that one they are not there

Bahn chiao is simply when you spread "the mixture water-powder" = bahn, you will hear that "chiao" sound.
chak chol cake; chak = pour (Ie. powder into oil), you hear the sound "cholll"

As a local, it frustrates me when I can’t have my favorite snack for breakfast 😂 lots of specialty foods here are only sold during certain times of the day. Usually banh chev is found between lunch to evening time!

hahaha!!! It was an effort! 😁😁😁 The variation in food prices is huge in both SR & PP. I'm going to say they were the same for what we ate. Yes rent is much cheaper in SR😊👍Street food is very very cheap if you get out of the tourist areas in both places🥰
Do you like buffet? Maybe you can try Tonle Bassac II, I think that is the name. They have maybe 300-400 dishes, I could be wrong with the numbers.
