    You have an amazing extension pole my dad thought the same thing when we were hunting over uncut sunflower (tall stocks) so the dove could see it easier and we just put it in the field awesome man great hunt

    Great video! Looks like a cool place to hunt. Your dog is super smart to figure out to go around the fence!

    Great video, reminds me of the days I hunted in Madera, (assume you're in the same area) Nothing like a good dog. >Notice you're using a Citori.. Mine is a 1976 so I'm not sure if I should shoot steel shot, Mod/Full chokes. Thoughts?

    Great video, you made some long ass shots with that steel. My 12 year old son and I have settled on 7/8oz of #6 steel , modified choke out of our 20 gauges. I load them and they are about 1275fps, not the best but they are never out of stock. Still looking for a powder that will safely get me to 1400fps. Speed seems to be the key with the steel shot. The Federal upland 12g 7's at 1500fps seem to do a decent job but I still am not a fan of this steel shot.

    I hunt a lot of almond and pistachio orchards, I live in Delano, Ca. I usually get my limit every time I go out. Anyways, good video and good shooting. 👍

      Very nice! Yeah hunting almond orchards can be fun. I’ve never had access to a pistachio orchard but I’d imagine it’s a banger!

      In my Browning Citori, I run two Skeet #1 chokes. I’m posting a new dove hunting video tomorrow morning using my Browning Maxus 2 with a Kicks High Flyer Extra Full choke.

    Whats the proper way to ask farmers permission to hunt in their lands? I just started air rifle shooting and want to hunt pigeons. also, do i need any hunting license to shoot pigeons?

    • @publiclandwaterfowler
      @publiclandwaterfowler  2 роки тому +2

      When it comes to asking for permission, first and foremost is appearance and making a good first impression. I’m not saying you have to dress up, but look presentable. Be respectful, “Yes sir, no sir.. that kind of thing” Tell them that you’re an air rifle hunter, that could very well be more appealing than someone blasting off a shotgun throughout the day on their property. Most farmers who have pigeons usually don’t have any issue with people shooting them.. at least from my experience.
      If you do get permission, get the guy’s number and send him a courtesy text before you show up. And always leave the place cleaner than the way you found it.
      As for a hunting license, you’ll have to check with your state laws as to what is required. Good luck!

    Great hunt man u did well filming and shooting. You kind of jinxed urself after u hit that long shot with steel lol. I shoot better with steel than lead because my aftermarket chokes are more made for steel.

      Lol thanks man. Yeah I was not expecting that bird to fold up like it did after I pulled the trigger.
      I have a pair of skeet chokes in that Citori, it came with the gun when I bought it online. I’m sure they’re made to pattern lead lol I have no clue how tight or open the pattern is on that gun.

    How do you know where to go to hunt?

    • @publiclandwaterfowler
      @publiclandwaterfowler  2 роки тому +2

      When it comes to doves, I look for one of two things.. either a food source or a roosting area.
      A food source would be any type of grain field (sunflower, safflower, and cut corn fields usually hold the most birds). Feed lots for cattle also hold a very good number of doves. I’ve also done very well hunting vineyards. As for asking for permission, the worst thing a farmer could say is “No”, so it never hurts to ask.
      As for hunting a roosting area, you want to look for an area with a decent concentration of trees. Out here, it’s almond orchards. But a tree row that separates fields or property lines works just as well. Hunting near fences or power lines can also be very productive. When hunting a roosting area you’ll want to keep in mind that generally the birds will be flying out of the trees in the morning, and then flying back to the trees in the evening.
      If you don’t have private access, look for Open CRP fields or Wildlife Management Areas that allow hunting. The OnX App is a great tool for showing you where public land areas are.

      Both barrels have Skeet Choke #1 chokes. When I bought the shotgun, the chokes were already in it. I don’t shoot my O/U enough to justify buying different chokes for it.
