Thank you, CalFalcons, for posting these feedings. They are reassuring! Show the chicks are doing well. Annie is an experienced mom, knows what the chicks need, and Alden still keeps coming through with what Annie and the chicks need of him. All is good in Calfalcontown! Sending much love to CalFalcons and this beautiful falcon family!
The moderators seem to think that the first and the last egg laid were the two that hatched, which would make the older chick Grinnell's while the younger one could be either Grinnell's or Alden's. Gloria is right - only DNA will prove paternity one way or the other. I would love to think it's one of each - Alden deserves to be the dad to one of these chicks, given that he's keeping both alive.
Question: There is a bird's head in the nest box today. Can you identify it? I'm a birder from the East coast, so it's not familiar to me/ Love this channel!
I wondered that as well, and spent a good half hour trying to figure that out. Another commenter here suggested a Least Tern which I hadn't considered, but it sure does look that way and there's a colony close enough! Nature has no mercy: having that head in plain view all day reminded me that this might have been the parent of other youngsters, now providing fuel for these instead of its own. 🫣
Interesting how she feeds both herself and the chicks in turn. I'm glad she'said getting pigeons, a lot more meat on the bone and they are more plentiful than the poor phalaropes and western tanagers. No way she could handle a third chicken this year.
The unhatched eggs always make me sad too. On the other hand, given the year Annie has had it is amazing that she has even two healthy chicks! Just keep reminding yourself of that.

I love watching this
Double feed~~ Wondering how many meals can this pigeon last..
So this lovely nest will have a little eggbert for the chicks
They're getting all fat and fluffy!😊
Growing fast!
I'm giving Grinnell credit for these 2 darlings.

@@alisonwhite5612 works for me. One definitely has to applaud Alden for stepping up like he has to raise these two.
@@alisonwhite5612 I hope that is the case too. Alden would be stepfather of the year if not though.

Least Tern?
It makes me sad seeing that 3rd egg. 😢
