- I always had my suspicion that totems would be removed, but I had no idea that the band-aid would be ripped off so quickly. In today's video, I discuss my thoughts about Wild Totems being removed from Global MapleStory. This is a big hit for a lot of players, but I think we will be okay. Additionally, I also discuss why I started the no-totem lifestyle on my account to begin with. I hope this video gives you a better understanding of my play style and account goals.

great vid, I also didn't really use totems much outside of legion mule leveling, mostly because I relied mainly on daily quest exp to level my main. only occasionally ever totemed when I was
LOL, thankfully I alt+f4'd fast enough and the hat stayed 22* :)
personally im more disappointed with the lack of communication rather than the removal of wild totem.. imo
i wish they gave us a long roadmap on what they will want to change to make GMS be on par with KMS so people can prepare rather than dropping sudden bombshells like this
I completely agree. When they nerfed Kishin, we had a 6 month notice, but this notice is less than a month of advanced warning. They keep saying they are making changes for the "health" of the game but they aren't transparent with what they particularly think is "unhealthy" about the game. They are always so vague.
21:15 Blaster is another class who struggled to keep up with any sort of spawn enhancers. This is both mobbing skill Afterimage Shock having a 7 second CD (pre-ignition), and Blaster relying on their insane mobility and attack speed to keep up with spawn. Base spawn Blaster can be chill, totem Blaster is giga sweaty with the exception of like 5 maps. Personally, I feel a lot more excited to revisit mine again post-Ignition.
That's awesome! Yes, I think "bad mobbers" on totem might be happy with the changes, especially now that we will get the Erda Shower summon. Best of luck with the Blaster!
What is the state of commerci and gollux?
There are still in the game and are still worthwhile to go for in some cases. You can get away with skipping Commerci entirely if you want, but you shouldn't skip getting Gollux. As far as GMS removing these things, I don't see that in the near future. If anything, Commerci will be removed first.
As someone casually maining Kain I didn't know they don't do so well with totems...is it because of the main mobbing skill
From what my friends say who side-main the class, apparently they have a "charging" systems that doesn't align well with totem spawn rate. When I get a chance, I'll ask my friend about that!
I love that you can currently CHOOSE to play without totems, that's amazing! I agree there CAN be a toxic mentality from players about maximizing efficiency, and a lot of FOMO (fear of missing out), but removing totems is NOT the only solution to this.
Plenty of other easy to implement solutions could've been done: raise base spawn rates, make totems unlimited, lower durations / increase quantities. All this does is lower everyone's rates, and change the map meta at the cost of game feel. I love that you enjoy the back and forth of Shadower's skills, but I love the fast paced spawning and map clearing on totem. In this current system, we both have the freedom to choose.

This kind of solution from Nexon feels like this: imagine someone with a leg infection. If nothing is done, it will cause them tremendous pain. We can either treat the root cause and deal with the infection, or go with Nexon's route and cut the entire leg off. Both routes lead to the same solution; the infection isn't a problem anymore! But one lets the patient keep their leg, while the other amputates them and alters their life forever.
I don't think nexon did this because they wanted to save the poor players from FOMO. I'm pretty sure they did this to slow progression so players can't complain about the lack of endgame content. Increasing base spawn would make perfect sense if they didn't want to nerf progression. Speaking of progression, coming from playing TERA in 2016 and Lost ark right now, progression is slow as hell in Maple.
@@wakomaoi Oh yeah I agree, Nexon did not make this change to address FOMO or grind session durations.
This change is to stay more in line with KMS, and slow progression.

Thinking about creating progression series without totems on the new 250 and keeping it going until the mesos stop dropping ~~

We need more people like you showing how the lack of spawn enhancement isn't doomsday and the game is still playable without them! It really sucks that they're just pulling the rug from a whole foundation of the game overnight like this (should've reduced wild totem availability to ease players into it), but spawn enhancement really isn't the end-all. There are EXP dailies coming in Ignition to ease the grind exp-wise and I'm sure the lower SF costs will make for better meso-playtime relationship for players.
Nodestones-wise I feel it is mindboggling that people think it's necessary for maxed nodes for a mule. It does help, but it's not needed.
There are also people like Kobe (iSlingGunz) showing how Reboot progression isn't all about spawn enhancers. Hell they don't even have 0AS, fams, gollux, threads of fate and their cube tier rates are abysmal. Yet he achieved so much in just 37 weeks so I really don't know how much faster people want their progression to be. It does feel really bad, Nexon's shit at communications but the loss of spawn enhancers in Reboot is probably a least major concern. I definitely agree it's way healthier this way.
The real kicker is what this does for reg. Honestly have no idea what Nexon is doing leaving frenzy around and taking away spawn enhancing abilities from legitimate players. This decision in reg only aimed to solely fuck people over.
Absolutely. A lot of my opinions about this matter are inspired by watching Kobe's series and his progression routes. It became obvious to me that we don't need all the things we complain about in Maple because Kobe was able to progress with just the bare bones of what Maple is. Don't get me wrong, I do LOVE some of the GMS content like Gollux, 0AS, etc., but it's not the end all be all. We can still have fun and progress despite totems not being here. Plus, the various changes we get in Ignition will off-set some of the "nerfs" we feel.
My guildies say that now making bossing mules will be even more important than it used to, but personally I just like to grind on my main, so my question efficiency wise (I'll do the fun calc myself) how much will I be losing from farming meso on main exclusively compared to working on cra mules after the removal of totems? (not a shad btw)
Farming on your main is never a loss. As you gain levels, you get damage; you are farming mesos, nodestones, and familiars; and you are having fun along the way. Plus, the more you farm on your main, the more resources you have to fund bossing mules in the future. I think focusing on levels instead of bossing mules is a really smart play.

You can prog on your main and still make boss mules. Once your main is strong enough you can trade bosses with someone to get better equips with your mules

Totems and Kishin became a whirlpool of FOMO. So much so that the 2PC meta was a thing for multiple years on end which I think is the most toxic thing. I do agree though, off totem farming feels like it has a lot more structure than on totem farming that makes it feel a lot more satisfying.

I've wasted so many totems in the past because I just can't sit there and grind for 2 hours. half hour to 1 hour is all I can stand.
No more fomo :) this past week i’ve been doing 30 min coupons and then taking a break. Rinse and repeat
So what if you werent keeping up with spawn increase. More spawn is more spawn. Net gain either way.
