I’ve been running a G29 since 2018 so have been looking into DD but they were just so expensive. This I think will be perfect for me on my PS5 where I play ACC and a bit of rally can’t wait for release in Australia
My thought for the perfect way of using the overshoot, is to get it to use it when load is progressing through corners. That way the wheel will feel much stronger than it actually is on regular use.
Nice Review. I appreciate it. I have mine on Pre order. They will be shipping on the 19th. I have a CSL DD for Xbox with upgraded pedals.8mn. This intrigued me though. For the price point, it looks like a good way to try something a little different. I really dislike the cogging on the Fanatec CSL DD. Although I like Fanatec, that was a bit annoying. Thanks again!
500€ for the entire kit that you need to get you started is a pretty good price, especially seeing how the wheelbase is a DD + the access to all the 1st party parts later on
Thank you for the video, I’m so exited about this wheel and your review confirms that I should be. I’m 65 years old and only got into sim racing a few months ago after I retired from work and moved to Thailand. I bought a PS5 and a Logitech G29 steering wheel. All I really want to know is if this new wheel will be an improvement and worth buying? Many thanks.
The Logitech G29 is an entry level wheel. TM T300 base for example is already better than your Logitech, its too soon to say but the probably this bundle is TM is releasing is a big step forward. Good luck on your SIM journey
Direct Drive is a massive step up from the G29 for sure. The cogging you feel when you move the wheel (like small steps in the rotation) is not there in DD wheels and the power is more sudden and direct. If you want to upgrade to Thrustmaster, I very much recommend a load-cell brake pedal. That was by far my favorite thing when I moved from my G25 to a Thrustmaster setup. Load cells makes braking FUN. You gotta stomp that foot down real hard, and it lets you be super precise with your braking. Supposedly there will come an add-on load cell pedal for the pedal base that comes with this package. That way you'll have what used to be the brake become a clutch if you need it, and the load cell replaces the brake. Load cells kinda require you to have a chair that's solidly fitted to the seat in some way, cause you'll just kick yourself away from the desk if you have an office chair + desk setup or similar.
hi im 62 yrs old i had a g29 then upgraded to a thrustmaster TGT Wheel and their load cell pedals the difference was massive so much more realistic i also changed the standard tgt wheel with a larger diameter 33cm sparco rally wheel and with these three upgrades made it so more realistic and immersive so god knows how much better their new DAD Wheel is going to be ? but i can honestly say with those three upgrades i made i smashed all my personal best stage times in wrc rally game !! welcome to the world of sim racing my friend
On lack of detail for kerbs in GT7. I'm on PS5 with a G29 and GT7 to me feels numb. You get pressure but very little else. When I was on PS4 I got Project Cars 2 and was amazed at the details even the lowly G29 could produce in that game on a PS4. Road surfaces were alive, kerbs felt real and you knew when you lost traction. Very different to GT Sport at the time and GT7 on PS5 now. To me PD with GT7 is short changing players with the detail in the FFB. It's just enough to say there is FFB, but nowhere near what the wheels are capable of. I find myself playing ACC and even PS4 versions of PCars2, PCars1 and original Assetto Corsa more often than PS5 GT7 as their driving experience feels better. Would love if TraxionGG did a comparison of FFB quality in a few different games on console with different hardware to see what the comparison throws up. Where possible, same track, same car, multiple games. Could be as simple as play session for the team with opinions, no fancy measuring equipment needed.
@@ahicracing884 Yes I agree 100% I was hoping for a comparison with ACC, hopefully we won’t have to wait long for the comparison. Saying that I’ve pre ordered the T598.. and I’m looking forward to using it.
@@taco8680 I’ve tried all the sensitive setting and it helps but compared to other driving games on PS4/PS5 the detail for same car same track is far less. If you’ve got it take any GT3 out on track at Monza in Project Cars 2 and drive like you’d drive in GT7 and see what the experience is. To be clear I love GT7 for what it is. For me a great way to get online races on demand. (Simgrid Seasons for ACC on PS5 works but is a bit more effort). A while back I went to a sim racing centre called VRROOM in Brighton. They use Assetto Corsa on PC and recommended the Toyota GT-One at Le Mans. I loved it. Was delighted to find the car and track are in GT7 (PS5) so played it and I didn’t get the same excitement. Booted up Project Cars 2 (PS4 game) with the same combo and it felt amazing. I’ve done loads of laps with this combo now because it feels great. Yes, GT7 looks and sounds better but PCars2 with its FFB on G29 just feels so much better.
When I updated the base firmware it makes a huge difference in feel on gt7. It communicates very well, more realistic. Gets tight n heavy or light n loose when it should...like a real car. The bursts feel like it should. You feel everything you should especially in rally racing
I've got a T-GT so this isn't quite enough of an upgrade to tempt me just yet (unless a PC-only, base-only option comes out very cheap), but it is very promising for a later T818 successor - if they can bring out a cost-competitive ~10Nm model off this technology I'm definitely onboard
I've read people complaining about plastic and who cares like really, if you want to buy it then buy it don't worry about what others say you can do what you want and enjoy what you want they're not there playing it with you holding the wheel with you 😂 don't worry about it just buy it
Yes I think Im going to buy this. I started on a t150 then added a load cell mod to the brake. Then I was given TLCM pedals as a gift and I now use them with a used t300 base I picked up. Its been excellent, but now I think Ill use the TLCM with the t598 base and sell the T300 with the t598 pedals
They nailed the price. Not sure if I should wait for base only release or not. How long did you play? Was the heat constantly building up or did it stay at the same level after a point ?
Should I get that wheel? Im waiting for official relase in Europe (29th November). Looking for a possible upgrade to F1 wheel or look alike. Or shoould I get Moza R5 or CSL DD instead as a PC user? But as I saw modification are limited or more expensive than TM.
It seems like a good option for the price and probably the best option for the price. But TM definitely ripped of Logitech's Trueforce with this "New" tech. I personally own the new Logitech G Pro DD11 and it's the most impressive wheel I've owned so far and that includes my original Simucube and Podium DD1. The base is crazy quiet , the Trueforce is a game changer & the overall fidelity and smoothness of the wheel is awesome. The Pedals are also incredible and has one of the best Load cell brakes I've used. But you're also paying quite a bit more for the G Pro but it's absolutely worth it in my opinion.
One question to the settings of those PS5 comaptible wheels in general, will the settings via the PC software affect in any way the wheel when used with a PS5 or is that a completely different thing? I am asking because in GT7 you can not really adjust the steering angle. With the old Thrustmaster T300RS you had to press a button combination for setting up the steerings angle but you have to do it before every race in GT7 because it resets it all the time. Is there a button for that on the new T598?
Great review 👍 really well made and edited. So assuming the base alone will release for under £400.. someone who has tlcms, evo and sf1000 rim.. is it an upgrade to the tgtii? I'm guessing not much in feedback but possibly more consistently?!?!
Traxxion made a hands-on video when the base was still in the camouflage box, and he drove a rally track in GT7. So you will have partly your answer there, although no Dirt2.0 or EA WRC of course
I am a TM user already. I have shifters, wheels, pedals. So I’ve been waiting for a PS5 DD wheel from TM for a while. That being said, is this good enough? Or should I go crazy and get the Fanatec GT DD Extreme? It’s a big difference in price, but is it worth it?
Hello, I am a PC gamer and I do not plan to switch to console. Since I was planning to play games such as iracing and Assetto Corsa, I was planning to buy the moza r5 bundle for a long time, but this new direct drive steering wheel set was silently released. So, what do you think, should I buy the Moza R5 bundle or the Thrustmaster T598 bundle?
Very important question when comparing to T-GT: Is the "Harmony" high frequency vibration function even working in GT7 at the moment? I have understood Harmony is not the gear jolt effect but they are two separate features. I was expecting Harmony to be similar effects to T-GTs T-DFB transducer. It would be crucial for the comparison to know if the "Harmony" actually is working.
@@jackkanoff6491 the curb feedback in gt7 is weird, it's not part of the "force feedback" but more of a vibration signal(you can feel it with the PS5 controller), the Logitech wheel with trueforce like g923 and g pro is the only two wheel base that does it right AFAIK
Nice review. The bit that worries me is how he described it feeling hot and overworking. I wonder what effect that will have in a year’s time when the warranty runs out. Apart from that I’m very interested.
I’m so tempted by this, I currently have a T-GT2 and I love it and I’m contemplating taking the leap into DD and this is perfect budget wise, in your opinion would this be much better then the T-GT2 ?? Plus I love the transducer on the tgt2 does this have similar effects?? Great review by the way 👌
Coming from a TS-PC user, which also has higher torque than a 5nm DD, I can tell you, its a difference. I tried a CSL DD and Moza R5, yes the torque value is lower, but the feeling is totally different. Its much snappier and you get loads more feedback through the wheel. I would say, this is a good wheel to start getting into Direct Drive. Especially if you're already deep into the Thrustmaster ecosystem.
Working on putting an affordable setup together. Thanks for this video! The T598 kit will be my first base What's a good affordable frame to get off like amazon, want to be able to mount a monitor and something with a decently comfortable chair. Would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks in advanced!
Im still very fresh to sim racing and wanting to buy my first wheel set for playstation. At this price range, T598 is very close to T300RS GT. Which one do you think should i get and why?
The base is just so huge. My legs would be hitting the bar on my cockpit if I put that thing on there. I'd have to lower my baseplate like a good half a foot.
Hello I’ve got the TGT ll, and I was looking for a dd from fanatec until I saw this one DAD 😅. Do you think it’s a good upgrade for my TGT ll? Thank you.
I will be buying this when a.c. evo releases. Ive been waiting for something like this! Was hoping for a moza r3 playstation version, but i do like thrustmaster
Hy,. I just have 1 question. I now have T300 with SF1000 add on, and playing F124. My question..Will be better this bundle ,than my current because I feel in every online-offline race that I lose feedback and I can drive with one hand....Is it game? Than in GT7 is perfect...Will my driving skills based in race in karting be feeled with this bundle?
The T300 is very good but has overheating issues, so you can try using the "always on" setting for the fan or lower the overall feedback or dampening, but a D(A)D base won't have these problems
many things to address here: 1. F124 doesn't really have great FFB so it has a lower ceiling up to where you can get improvements with better hardware. 2. You need to pinpoint where your issue is coming from, maybe it's your USB connection, internet connection or something else. It will only be fixed if the base is the problem. 3. GT7, as mentioned in the video, is also a mixed bag in relation to FFB. 4. Driving karts is a very different experience from most cars, of course there are some skills that are translatable, but don't expect to feel the exact same things that you do in a kart.
Thx for the review! I think TM should sell the base without the pedal too... I've got a T248 and change a 3 pedal base for e 2 pedal with same technology is a little bit unfair... like spend maybe 100€ more for a pedal set i would not need... They should do a 279€ only base or 379€ base + wheel bundle.
You know, as they have adapters to use my old T300RS stuff .... buying just the base might be actually a temping and reasonable upgrade. And after the review I keep wondering if we will see a DAD FF Joystick or Yoke Base for us Flight Sim guys.
So is this the perfect way to get into DD world? I mostly play EA WRC and GT7 (and I can't wait for AC Evo). I had to return the Logitech G923 because it was incredibly loud and slow feeling, at the end it didn't feel like I gained much over the ps5's dualsense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Im gonna bite the bullet, i made the dumb mistake of thinking thr tss handbrake would be compatible with my t150 (i have the tlcm pedala and th8a shifter, so I assumed the handbrake would work too! NOPE lol) So this will be a perfect upgrade to that old (6+ yrs) wheel (i only paid 50$ new for it, a pricing error lol) but its time. Ive got a sim rig too so this will fit nicely once it realeses. 😅 Great reveiw by the way !

You have to try it to believe it .
@@Dave062YT
Wow that does sound amazing. True force in the feet with the load cell pedal sounds incredible too. Strongly leaning towards the G Pro now. Appreciate you taking the time to share man 👍
I’ve been running a G29 since 2018 so have been looking into DD but they were just so expensive.
500 including the extortionate sony PS tax, thats actually cheap. Obviously depends on the quality on the kit.
Thanks everyone
I’d Love to see a video comparing this to the TGT2. It sounds like thousands would upgrade to this if significantly better
He says the wheel will obliterate TGT2. Let’s see how true this is for GT7.. hope it does but not convinced TGT2 is great for gt7
Where does he say this?@@REDEEL16
@@MrTranamosity let us know how you get on.
This to me feels like a sweet spot from a price standpoint so very interested.
Gt7 has a sensitivity setting did you try lowering it? It should give more detail
I predict this will feel amazing on gt7 particularly
When I updated the base firmware it makes a huge difference in feel on gt7. It communicates very well, more realistic. Gets tight n heavy or light n loose when it should...like a real car. The bursts feel like it should. You feel everything you should especially in rally racing
I've got a T-GT so this isn't quite enough of an upgrade to tempt me just yet (unless a PC-only, base-only option comes out very cheap), but it is very promising for a later T818 successor - if they can bring out a cost-competitive ~10Nm model off this technology I'm definitely onboard
as a 12 yr old sim racer in the phillipines, this is a steal
Cant wait to get my hands on one 😅
I've read people complaining about plastic and who cares like really, if you want to buy it then buy it don't worry about what others say you can do what you want and enjoy what you want they're not there playing it with you holding the wheel with you 😂 don't worry about it just buy it
I take it the T-LCM pedals fit this base and the t300 wheel rim with a new quick release upgrade ?
Probably a safe assumption since they say it’s compatible with everything. Base should be available standalone early next year.
Awesome!!! I was litereally looking for this!
I have TGT 2 with TLCM pedals and love it but I just want direct drive so this one is must have for me. Loved your review❤
Thanks, I hope you enjoy it if you go for it :)
The best gift for all of us from Thrustmaster.
They nailed the price. Not sure if I should wait for base only release or not. How long did you play? Was the heat constantly building up or did it stay at the same level after a point ?
You hit the nail on the head. It's a sweet spot from a price to performance point of view. Bang for the Buck with PS5 support.
Great review can't wait to get my hands on one
Thanks! Enjoy it :)
Im not coming back to Thrustmaster after all the problems I ran into, but its nice to see they are improving.

Looking to pick this up just for the PlayStation compatibility and I like how plug and play TM ecosystem products typically are
Should I get that wheel?
G Pro is twice as expensive as this. Question if it’s twice as good for real
As soon as the base is sold seperately I'll upgrade. My TLCM pedals aren't even a year old yet and hopefully the T300rs wheel will swap over.
@traxiongg is the base metal or plastic? could you explain how it feels?
Front and back plastic. Middle metal.
I have the same question. Having a T-GT2 with SF1000 and T-LCM. Is it a good upgrade.. Is it worth it when they sell the base only.
@@Tschmitz13 yer he sort of mentioned it at the start that it would blow it away as people keep saying but not that actually does.
lol not happy I’ve only had my TGT2 and TLCM pedals for 8 months and only just finished paying for it, thanks Thrustmaster
0:17 dude, can i please use that opening statement in a sales pitch? That was absolute poetry and i couldn’t have said it any better.
Hope their loadcell upgrade is good because this bundle is on my wishlist for sure!
Very nice review. How does it feel playing rally games on Playstation?
Traxxion made a hands-on video when the base was still in the camouflage box, and he drove a rally track in GT7. So you will have partly your answer there, although no Dirt2.0 or EA WRC of course
I am a TM user already. I have shifters, wheels, pedals. So I’ve been waiting for a PS5 DD wheel from TM for a while.
That being said, is this good enough? Or should I go crazy and get the Fanatec GT DD Extreme?
It’s a big difference in price, but is it worth it?
Can’t wait to pick this up and upgrade from the T300.
I have the tgt2 would this be an upgrade for me I also have the Tlcm pedals? Thanks
How does is stack up against the T GT2?
If you watch the video, he says.
That’s the million dollar question
Usually when you review something, you go through the product thoroughly. Why no dive into the settings used?
How does it compare to the T300? Wondering if I should upgrade or not 👀
Got my money ready just waiting for release in Australia. Would the spring setting being at 15% have something to do with not feeling the kerbs? 20:40
I'll pick up the Servo motor on it's own around Christmas 2025 (End of next year)
I'm interested in what other wheel bundles they might have for the t598 base
@@jackkanoff6491you can configure your pre-order and swap at least the rim. I think saw that on the Thrustmaster online store.
@@chuanjenchang3153 oh ok thanks for explaining that make sense now
Why are the oscillations so strong when the wheel is straight/centered? Is that normal? Do all dd wheels do that? 20:00
The T598 kit will be my first base
What's a good affordable frame to get off like amazon, want to be able to mount a monitor and something with a decently comfortable chair. Would appreciate any recommendations.
Thanks in advanced!
Im still very fresh to sim racing and wanting to buy my first wheel set for playstation.
At this price range, T598 is very close to T300RS GT.
Which one do you think should i get and why?
Is the playstation compatibility chip in the wheel or base? Im not sure if i missed that in the video
It’s in the base
@@TraxionGG awesome, thanks!
Sounds like the way Cammus do it.
With the shape of that base they need to come out with a shaft extension asap. That hefty boy ain’t going to fit beneath a monitor on many rigs
Does this fit into the steering wheel mount of the SimTask Steering Kit? If not, missed opportunity.
The base is just so huge. My legs would be hitting the bar on my cockpit if I put that thing on there. I'd have to lower my baseplate like a good half a foot.
It’s certainly something to think about, unique shape means unique rig layout and that might an issue with some setups!
Can I connect my T-LCM pedals and 300RS wheel to the 598 base? Can I buy the base only?
How would this rank against the Logitech G923, which is my current setup? Would this be a huge upgrade or are they roughly in the same league?
For someone who doesn’t really care about the plastic build, would you recommend the T589 or the Fanatec DD Pro? (My only two options for PlayStation)
Do you know if a servo base only option will be available and is it compatible with the sf1000
I would put a rectangular magnifier in front of that display to double the size.
The T300 is very good but has overheating issues, so you can try using the "always on" setting for the fan or lower the overall feedback or dampening, but a D(A)D base won't have these problems
many things to address here:
I’ve been waiting for something like this, apart from fanatech dd wheels for ps have been really few and far between
This t598 or moza r5? I'm thinking of buying a base and rim to replace my t300 (I already have the tlcm pedals so I don't need the pack)
They will be selling just the wheelbase itself sometime early in 2025
Hi TraxiionGG, does the T598 wheel show up as an option in GT7 under the controllers?
Is there a playstation wheel that doesnt show up in gt7?
@@SrJonAnthony not supported ones. and this new T598 does no appear on controller settings
NOPE lol)
So this will be a perfect upgrade to that old (6+ yrs) wheel (i only paid 50$ new for it, a pricing error lol) but its time. Ive got a sim rig too so this will fit nicely once it realeses. 😅
