It's not about the whiskey, it's the people you share it with!
#bourbon #whiskey #whiskeytube
Its a joke that you dont have more views and subs. Probably the most watchable bourbon channel that exists.
Unfortunately, that’s a bottle. I will never see living in Maryland. I would pay retail for it but not anything really over maybe 20 bucks but I’m tired of overpaying for whiskey when there’s so much good whiskey out there. Cheers Jason.🥃🥃
Agreed over the bourbon / whiskey over pricing. I can definitely see a lot of these craft distillers going under one day charging 170 dollars for an 8 year old whiskey? Pass
Outstanding video. Thanks
I was fortunate that my neighborhood bar got a bottle. So I got a few pours. It is definitely my best pour of the year so far. Appreciate the review
I'll never be touching their products after what I've read about them. With all the evasion, deflection, and careful omission they do, you know something is up. They are hiding something and we shouldn't reward a producer being incredibly non-transparent,. We want more transparency, not less.
Totally agree about stores selling bottles for absurd amounts rather than considering their regular customers.
Stop shopping at them! I skip the store near my house (that I went to for years) now and go several miles down the road. So do several others in my neighborhood
Cheers for another great review Jason and comparison to the DO - I have the chance to pick up the 15th for 425, would you buy at that price? I've never had the chance to try anything from 13th colony as I'm in CA....thanks!
I love there stuff. If people want to complain dont buy it. More for those who want it
For $600 is it an experience no other bottle for $599 or less can provide? If so its worth $600. If its just "good" then its not worth 600.
Great review but will never find it in VA
Consistent review to what I’ve heard from others. Well done and excellent review.
It’s cool that a lot of folks down south were able to get this at a relatively reasonable price. To me the question is can 13th Colony keep making hitter releases?
I understand capitalism but… 😂
Yeah I understand a little mark up but 5 times msrp is absurd . With that said I have to find a bar with this 😂. Maybe some companies with limited releases like this should do a 50ml so the rest of us can try . Yep that’s how bad it’s getting . I’m a buyer at msrp. Did you review the regular releases?
This bottle is just basically a normal pick turned into small batch at cask lol its not special
💯 agree with you. I’m happy I paid msrp for it but I was so excited to finally try 13th colony! And it didn’t come close to delivering on the nose, palette or finish, unlike other comparably hyped and $$$ recent releases that actually delivered or came close to delivering (Binder’s stash 15 year, Russell’s single rickhouse, willett 10 year family estate bourbon, old stubborn, river roots 14 year, port finished, Brook Hill, etc.).
Never been a chaser just enjoy good whiskey. I like your attitude on this matter and hope it spreads
Great review! Would love to get a pour or a sample to try but I think 2024 is going to be the year that I resist the FOMO and overpay for bourbon.
I understand stores wanting to get in on the secondary action, and as a matter of principle why should flippers get to profit off the stores and producers who do all the work, but at the same time it all just perpetuates the cycle of overpriced bottles. I think stores should sell allocated bottles at close to cost to their best customers via some form of lotteries
Would it be a deal for around 300??
Seen 2 bottles at $499, I quit bourbon hunting, fu$!ing ridiculous. I'm all about capitalism but hey, Best of luck.
No need to hunt bourbon. Plenty of good store picks, and quality whiskey out there for under 100 and even under 70. People buy these overinflated bottles and then convince themselves that spending half their rent/mortgage payment was worth it.
Great review. Jealous you have one. My fam and I are about to take our 3rd Kentucky distillery trip later this fall. What's the bourbon bar you mentioned in the past that has great pours at s good price so we can check it out? Or if you have multiple, we'd love to hear. Thanks.
Hey man! Head to Neat Bourbon Bar & Bottle Shop in Louisville. Good prices on dusty pours.
Here we go…$600-900 for an 8 year bourbon. This bourbon market is starting to look like GME (to the moon 🚀)! Lol. Makes me feel great about buying Port Charlotte 18 for $189.
Maybe one day. Great review
So is it finished then? Or how does the French oak thing work?
Yeah technically it's finished. They used French oak staves in this one. They do the same in their standard rye whisky
I love their regular bourbon. I’ll never see this bottle.
I haven't been fortunate enough to get either of these bottles, but I did try the double oaked at a bottle share a few weeks ago, and a friend was kind enough to give me a sample of the 15th anniversary last week. I just tried the 15th anniversary sample. I think I prefer the darker, richer flavor profile of the double oaked. The ethanol and volatile alcohol/ketone aromas came through fairly heavily on the 15th anniversary and buried some of those sweet fruity notes. The overall feel of the 15th anniversary reminded me of some Staggs I have had, and for a similar price, I would probably prefer a Stagg (especially a good batch).
Love 13th Colony but almost impossible to get in Maine and their shipper doesn’t ship to Maine.
Would love a 13th DO comparison to Crittenden’s Cut Above DO. A hard to get $200 bottle vs an easy to get $55 DO bottle that is 118 proof.
This is one of my top pours... I am lucky that I have an open ended supply through a distributor lol
Blows everything out of the water... my old lady hates bourbon and she even said it was good!
If you had a choice between this and last years Michter's 10 Year what would you choose?
Michters
Michter’s 10 is so superior to this! I own both bottles!
@@TheMashandDrum you think the batches of Michter's 10 make any difference? Can get Batch E
@@davidvoth7218 they are single barrels. And there is a drop off after C.
What bourbon would you compare this to that is a lot more findable ?
Luckily my local shop offered it to me at retail, that really buys loyalty for life.
I'm local to Americus GA & was able to pick one up for $160. I feel this 15th ani holds up to the DO but they are different animals.
Completely agree
Been to americus several times recently. None less than $549
I actually got my bottle from a store in Albany a week after it was released. They just happened to have one left when I walked in to the store. Got lucky!
Their 20th Anniversary Bourbon will be just liquid oak extract in a fancy bottle. It seems like we are going in that direction.
I went to the distillery today. They're toying with a gin finished in bourbon barrels. It was really good for gin.
They said it was a rye barrel. I loved that gin.
Cheers 🥃
Didn't get one of these but I'm sipping on some Holy Canoli right now! All I can say is DAMN!
is it available today? and where did you get em? ive tried searching for this around local stores and couldnt find any.
@@lucasl2559 the 15th Anniversary were offered up in a lottery at Seelbachs last week and unfortunately I never got an email so I didn't get drawn. The Holy Canoli was a single barrel pick done by the Mash and Journey whiskey club. Those sold out in minutes to club members. I wish I had better news for you but I don't. Always keep an eye out though because you never know. I've stumbled across many good whiskies by accident.
Just throw an oak spiral (or maple stave) in your barrels, and you too can have a similar whiskey. Ancient Chinese secret...
Don't forget to season the cask with oak extract right before filling it for that "Dark" taste that Bourbon drinkers seem to love.
I love it. But I still prefer B2 the most. They keep putting out great stuff! Secondary is falling on the 15th anniversary. Seen it sub $500 now but it was $900-1000 when it first dropped which is crazy. I’m sure it will go up again over time as there just isn’t a lot of this stuff out there
Celebrating their place in the secondary market huh?
Most seem to be
Didn’t love this 15th anniversary at all! Tasted young and with a cinnamon stave added. I scored it an 83/100 on my first pour. This was my first time tasting 13th colony. I’d love to taste that DO and I don’t care about any controversy regarding how they’re getting their flavors (but I hate additives and any artificial ingredients in my food and drinks), sourced whiskey or not, makes no difference to me. I also love the old charter French oak release from around 2018 or earlier (their newer FO release was a big step down) so if they’re using FO staves, I have no aversion to that. Anyway, I don’t get why there’s nearly unanimous love for this 15th anniversary bourbon. It’s a solid B to B- and worth about $70 for a bottle but it’s incredibly overhyped, especially for anyone who’s actually tasted this bottle. I hope to taste their double oaked from 2023 but I’ve got your rye pick from 13th on the way so hopefully that impresses my palette far more than this 15th anniversary. Just my honest take!
Yeah that's why I said nobody should be overpaying for this. I understand the premium 15th anniversary lore for this bottle but as much as I like it ...I love French oak btw, I don't think it's worth all the hype honestly. It's a great bourbon but nothing anyone should.be overpaying for.
A definite pass for me. Even if it showed up in our stores, the price is a big no! It is disappointing that the push for higher end bottles leaves us, the average drinker, in the dust.
Start exploring Brandy my friend 🙂
Sneaker resell and bourbon resell are one in the same.
