broke my heart when the 2 of them went to heaven don't know why it happend but a big loss!! have still got all the albums from the 70s!!!!! not disc or tapes but the original vinyl records will keep them forever!!
EL&P has always been my favourite group. Innovators in the seventies, this musical group has accompanied my life since adolescence. The Sage is the song I prefer best. The lyrics sound archetypal, touching deeply my soul. Besides, it becomes one of the poems that can only be heard in English, to reach profoundly the Self. Thank you, EL&P, for giving us so much musical art.
ELP was so underrated in so many ways. This is definitely one of the best songs that shows the power of Greg’s voice. So sad he and Keith left this world way too soon. 😢 Imagine what they could have created if still here.
You are so right. I am so happy to have found ELP and this kind of songs, and in the same time sad that Greg already has passed away. He was also one of the first singers of King Crimson I found out.
One of my favorites from ELP. Greg doesn't get the acknowledgement or respect for his guitar playing but it was extremely important to their overall sound and diversity. His voice is one of the best I've ever heard. Haunting and Powerful Rest easy Greg and thanks for all of the great music.
I couldn't agree more! I was just 13 when I bought the LP, almost fresh off the press! I was a multi instrumentalist even then, self-taught (had recently mastered most of Classical Gas by Mason Williams. It was the first time I can remember hearing harmonics - totally blown away! I was so chuffed the first tike I mastered them - had to save my pocket money to buy a steel string guitar! 😊💖🎶
Not "Sir Lake", but "Sir Greg Lake" or "Sir Greg". The title "Sir" must always be followed by the first name. (I think Lake was not knighted, by the way)
The EP version is also a live one, as you know. His voice distills this poem with character and sensitivity. I never get tired of these classical and subtle harmonies...
I don't know how many other guitar players are out there, but we all know what an amazing, complex and perfectly executed piece of music this is. Not to mention that Greg's voice is unrivaled in the annals of rock history.
I carry the dust of a journey That cannot be shaken away It lives deep within me For I breathe it every day You and I are yesterdays answers The earth of the past come to flesh Eroded by times rivers To the shapes we now possess. Come share of my breath and my substance And mingle our streams and our times In bright infinite moments Our reasons are lost in our rhymes.
I read some of the lyrics of these ELP TUNES -especially like this one, and am blown away by the raw & pure depth of their expression--WOW-!!! What a TRUE poetic artist AND musician Greg was!!! I’ve been viewing these clips on here - since i’ve been on this Greg Lake kick as of late, wow, I realized of his talent when i was just a kid, but truly had no idea as to the extent of the depths of how real & deep his talents (all the ELP mates-actually), were! Just AMAZING, gone too soon Greg, thank U for your inspiration & all the beautiful & INTENSE Music!!!!!!!!!! 👍🙏💜💚😍😘🌀🌞❗️❗️❗️
Without Greg Lake, ELP would be a e band. He was the one who kept the band interesting. He was the vocals, bassist, guitarist and yricist and the soul of elp
Thank you for the lyrics, I always liked the gist of the song but now that I know the full content, I'm even more enamored by it all.I saw them live at Winterland in San Francisco and they did this suite. When it came time for this interlude, Greg Lake' s vocals and guitar work was incredible. You could hear a pin drop..Fantastic !!!!
After the passing of Keith Emerson, the death of Greg Lake is another terrible blow for me. I will always shed a tear when I hear this wonderful song, Greg. Rest in peace!
Greg doesn't play classical style guitar like say Steve Howe but he is totally under rated and Keith RIP gets most of the ink largely due to his flamboyant style. Emerson and Palmer are the raging waters and Lake is the rock....
I tried to meet Greg Lake. My request was accepted. For a while I knew nothing more, until I found out that he was dead. He is the only 'stranger' whose death I suffered. When I listen to songs like this again, I am seized with emotion.
This chord progression or ones similar to it are extremely popular in rock. It's very simple but kind of mysterious. Songs where you can find it for example: King Crimson - In the court of the Crimson King ELP - The Sage Genesis - Anyway Metallica - Call of Cthulhu Megadeth - A bunch of songs, most famously Hangar 18 and Public enemy no. 1 Dream Theater - Pull me under Even Lose yourself by Eminem has similar chords, damn it!

A documentary released about King Crimson stating that Gregg Lake lacked proficiency, in comparison with other members, leaves out that … Greg Lake was King Crimson! End of Story! As evidenced by this song!
Greg just never got the credit deserved for his vocals. (Much less credit for his guitar skills (which kill me and make me quite jealous ) And additionally, his writing. A huge contribution to ELP. I miss Greg, on so many levels. ❤❤❤
So much of the Genius Progressive is hidden due to the length and/or non-pop atmosphere of classics like this. I love this one because it's from the live album, and sooooo well done.

That VOICE! SPECTACULAR!💕🎶
Mi canción favorita, entre todas las existentes.😊🎵🎶🥂
This is my all time favorite piece of all their songs... I love them all but, this one is all Greg Lake... RIP Sir Lake...
WAS he actually knighted by the Queen?

Not "Sir Lake", but "Sir Greg Lake" or "Sir Greg".

Started learning to play this one today!☺

Lovely guitar playing from a very underrated player.

El mejor Album de Emerson, sin duda, extraordinarios
so beautiful that it hurts
A REAL MASTERPIECE, WORTHY TO HAVE IN AN EXHIBITION :P
AMAZING SONG, VOICE AND GUITAR!
This could be the tune for my funeral, hmm something to look forward to at last.
I forgot how good this bit is!
Meraviglioso!

The pile of Greg's songs is getting higher. A great solo artist. r.i.p dear Greg.
Simply lovely.😌❤
Lake maravillosa voz y guitarra.
Super Fabulous!❤️🙏
Bloody brilliant

RIP Greg Lake.....
what a masterpiece

My condolences my friend, we all have a void from his loss
My favorite ELP song.
una sola parola canzone fantastica
The acoustic guitar part sounds like "The Court of the Crimson King." We have Greg Lake here, so it's no surprise.
+Progger_Frogger Yes, from 2:55 through 3:01. Similar to "I slowly turn the grinding wheels in the court of the..."/
Lake and Fripp had the same guitar teacher.
gojiraspoon I think you told me that many years ago. You added, "And they told to each other that this would not work to have both of us on guitar".
This chord progression or ones similar to it are extremely popular in rock. It's very simple but kind of mysterious. Songs where you can find it for example:
King Crimson - In the court of the Crimson King

ELP best Group ever heard
Perfection...
2:55 sounds exactly like "The Court of the Crimson King".
Greg Lake is the man, if you like this then you'll enjoy King Crimson
he used to be in kc iirc.
Very Nice,...

El poema alude a su nota de suicidio. Pero se convirtió en la base para el Gran Gatsby.

true that man!

Exquisite 🎤🎸❤️
A documentary released about King Crimson stating that Gregg Lake lacked proficiency, in comparison with other members, leaves out that … Greg Lake was King Crimson! End of Story!
As evidenced by this song!
Lacked proficiency? No, it's just that Lake was never going to be the guitarist with Robert Fripp in the band.
"eroded by Time's rivers..." RIP Greg.

at 1:40 a touch of a genius - the FLAGEOLET - sadly, absent on a subsequent LIVE performance at 1min 55sec

2:55 - 3:03 i heard that chord progression a lot in Megadeth song
Call of Ktulu
check out in the court of the crimson king (king Crimson) in the original (not available on youtube - well done Robert)
